West Winfield Postmaster - Way to Go!

October 11, 2009 Art Layton of West Edmeston ran the Marine Corps Half Marathon Race from Colonie to Albany NY. This is the 2nd year that Arty has competed in the marathon to raise money for the West Edmeston Volunteer Fire Department. Not all funds have been handed in yet but we estimate he has raised over $500.00. Out of 781 runners participating in the Half Marathon - I am proud to announce, Arthur Layton came in 259th - Not to bad for an "old" man. So when you see the West Winfield postmaster tell him, “Way to Go.” Thank you to everyone that sponsored Arty. Also a special thank you to Arty for all that he does for our community. Fund Raiser Success

When times are tough and money is tight, it is often hard to ask others for donations no matter how good the cause may be. Even so, when the West Edmeston Volunteer Fire Dept held its 2nd annual Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser, on October 17, 2009 at the Parish House in West Edmeston, the generosity of this community was evident. We would like to say thank you to those who supported this cause. A special Thank you to our “Chef” Ellen Layton and her assistants, Alzada Bice & Pat Schutz for planning, preparing and giving time and energy to this cause. Also a special thank you to the West Edmeston Community and Department members for the donation of some of the supplies needed for this and volunteering your time. A thank you to our Honary Dept Member, Chris Sullivan of Morris, for waiting on tables, you did a great job. Chris also won the 50/50 Raffle and donated his winnings back to the Fire Department. The West Edmeston Community appreciation BBQ event held on August 2nd was a great success. We had an awesome turn out.
