Best Vet in La Porte?

On an entirely different note...Thursday April 11 is the La Porte Livestock Auction. Come out and support the kids. Last year I bought half a steer(partnered with someone). The kids who don't place in the show still need to sell their animals, so after the auction I was told there was a young man from the Harbor who needed a buyer for his pig so I bought that too. Since I don't eat a lot of red meat, it is a good thing I have twin boys in college. Anyone can be a buyer...come out to Lomax and help reward the kids for their hard work. Also they didn't have enough sponsors for the Miss Sylvan Beach young ladies so look for Miss Animal Clinic of La Porte in the parade.  (Apr 9, 2013 | post #24)

Best Vet in La Porte?

Interesting. I don't know if it worth it or not but here is my response to the last two...just for fun. One person complained that he brought his dog in for an ear infection. I remember you came in on discount vaccination day and asked for and received exam,distemper/par vo vaccination, rabies vaccination, fecal test for intestinal worms, and a heartworm test(this is everything in our package). We found Hookworms and you said you wanted to treat him for that so we sent home dewormer. You said you were short on money when it came to the ears so we gave it a shot to make the ears feel better and we sent home an ear wash for you to use. These two things together cost $51.48. The rest of your bill for the things you requested was $114.95. Your total was then $166.43. The reason I ask what you want from me today is to determine specifically why you are here. Apparently Heavy was more concerned about the ears than anything else. Had I known that, I would have concentrated primarily using what funds you had to take care of why you were here. So that is why I always ask "What are we trying to accomplish today?" I hope that helps. Best of luck to Big Dog. He was a very sweet patient for being the size he was. He must have been raised right.  (Apr 8, 2013 | post #17)

Best Vet in La Porte?

Just to clear a few things up. My next door neighbors pit bull finally broke through his fence. As I went out to get my mail, she chased me back into my house, my slamming door hit her in the face. The next day, I could not sit. I could stand or lay down. I had to have back surgery and I was out $7,000. I hired a lawyer to work with their insurance company to try to get my money back. I last heard from him(my lawyer) about 6 months ago. If I don't get my $7000 back...oh well, that is life. Dr Hunter is closing down soon. I have a discount vaccination day on Friday and a discount neuter/spay day every Monday. Both are very popular. I do this because I want everybody to be able to afford basic veterinary care. We never wanted our mother to take our pet to the DVM because usually they would not come back because we were so poor, so low cost is very important to me. Check out 1320 W Tyler in La Porte to see where the six of us lived. The internet and WalMart caused us to have to raise some of our prices on our services. We do what is best for the PET and some owners don't like/agree with me but I no longer have to cater to these folks. We vaccinated a litter of kittens and vaccinated and spayed their mother and kept them at our clinic for almost two months to find them homes at our own expense. We just finished $40 cat neuters and $60 cat spays to try to reduce the excess cat population. Again, it was VERY popular. I have practiced in La Porte since 1986 and plan to until I retire. I love La Porte and its pets. And I always try to do the right thing. Thank you.  (Apr 1, 2013 | post #10)

Heavy Fed WANTED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did see your pets. How are they doing? Keep them on their heartworm preventative because the mosquitoes are really starting to come out.  (Apr 16, 2012 | post #193)

Heavy Fed WANTED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I own the Animal Clinic of La Porte. Hence the "lpvet". Even says it on my car license plate. BTW The new million dollar animal shelter is going right across the street from my clinic. If everyone supports it maybe we can save a lot more dogs and cats. P&Z meets Thursday to discuss it. I can't wait to see it. Ya'll come.  (Apr 16, 2012 | post #189)

Heavy Fed WANTED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No the house is not gone yet. 1320 W Tyler across from Force Corp. My dad built it in 1955. The six of us lived there. I shared a bottom bunk bed with my brother until junior high. I got my own room in high school. We thought we were living large when Dad bought a window unit a/c and we all huddled around it. Growing up I never knew how poor we were. When I went to A&M to study veterinary medicine, I lived in an apartment with 5 other guys. I slept on a mattress on the floor, traveled on a bicycle but I was living large because for the first time ever I had a SHOWER. My mother lived there until her dementia worsened. She spent a bunch of money having that tiny little kitchen remodelled along with the bathroom. I saw one of the bills for $16,000 but she wouldn't tell me how much else she spent. This was late 90s or 2000. I moved her into an assisted living place around 2004. We sold the place(owner financed). He lived there for awhile then moved out. It will probably get torn down eventually. We used to be "out in the country". At my mother's funeral the priest said that everyone knew her as the plant lady. Oh well. I am just rambling. Good times.  (Apr 16, 2012 | post #187)

That house holds alot of memories. My father built it himself in 1955. It is 900 square feet 3 bedroom ONE bath. When I was growing up in it, we had no a/c. No shower, just a bathtub. Six of us lived there. Mom, Dad, 3 boys, and one girl. The three of us boys had to share the one bedroom. I shared a lower twin bunkbed with my brother until I was in Junior High. That was also about the time Dad bought our first window unit a/c. Even though we mostly ate mayonnaise sandwiches for school lunch(cheese sometimes, but Dad made the money so he got meat) we never realized how poor we were. When I went away to A&M after winning the Rotary scholarship, I slept on a mattress on the floor of a 3 bdroom apartment with 5 other guys. I thought I was living large because I had a shower and a/c! Good times in that house. Probably headed for the wrecking ball. That was out in the country back then.  (Feb 27, 2012 | post #22)
