And I totally understand. All I can say to that mother is toots, get some counseling and realize the priceless little one you have! Dedicate your life to that child from this day forth!  (Dec 20, 2007 | post #25)

Hell yeah. I don't think he's a Marine, Lillith. The ones I know would never just say something like he said. You know, I think he never has hit a woman though, like he says--he's verbally abusive and doesn't have to. He insults them until they go over the edge and smack him then calls them abusive! Bet he's just out of high school and the Marines wouldn't take him because he's a skinny little whiny butt. Semper fi all the way, yeah?  (Dec 20, 2007 | post #24)

Older men with teenage/twentysumthing girlfriends....

Actually it is math when you think about it. It's a matter of ratio, not subtraction. Someone who is 60 is only 1.4 times older, but someone 32 is 1.8 times older. Take that into younger years for a moment: when the 32 year old was 28, the 18 year old was 14. That would have been illegal. When the older one is 90, the younger one will be 76--no biggie, yeah?  (Oct 27, 2007 | post #38)

a place to talk about NOTHING !

She knows it out here in Colorado. It's grey today, beautifully so, and the breeze is still. The leaves still have lots of different colors, and set against the darker clouds they glow gold, orange, red, and pale green. There is a huge blue jay in the evergreen I named Mr. Impossible because he is so big, and he's squawking about something to a squirrel on the wire. When I open the back door, it smells like a combination of roasting pecans and wood. Maybe you could stop by for a cup of tea in your mind and look out my back door awhile. What throws me, though, is much of the grass is still green. Out here it is usually getting crispy brown by mid-August, sometimes July. We are still in a drought from what I understand. An, of course, it's Colorado--which means it may snow four feet tomorrow and be beach weather the next day. ;-)  (Oct 27, 2007 | post #266)

That's very funny! I used to build guillotines out of my sister's blocks and behead them all. My mother worried about me and learned to pace when I was very young. ;-)  (Oct 27, 2007 | post #265)

This is no better than the genital mutilation in Africa! How they could acquit this woman is beyond me!  (Oct 26, 2007 | post #1)

Lol! I do have to say that this situation goes both ways. I married a man 11 years old than me, and just got sick of doing the things that his part of our generation enjoyed doing, etc. For instance, he was hell-bent on moving to a community in Florida for folks over 50 (you had to be 50 or married to someone that age to get in). I was horrified. Sure, maybe it was a community of people who were "young at heart" (rolls eyes) but many people who are 90 and above are truly still young in body as well. So was I, and I was young on paper! He was becoming sedentary and I couldn't get him off his butt no matter what. He always told me it was our difference in age; as I watch people in my neighborhood take up the rocking chair as they hit older years, I think perhaps he's right. Today those differences are still there, and we are long divorced. But I can tell you, the first person to bring a rocking chair into my house is going to get slaughtered. There was no maturity issue with my ex an me. It was an issue of, "do I really need to get old in my thirties?" "Do I really want to sit down and never get up?" Et cetera. So before you all attribute it to lack of maturity on the younger woman's part (before you jump on me, I do agree it applies in some cases), think about it from her end first. If you do marry someone younger, you'd be lots better off to adopt the younger way of thinking. Here are some tips: -Don't buy the elastic waist jeans just because all your friends have them. -Don't watch reruns of "All in the Family." -Throw away your t-shirt with M.A.S.H. characters all over it. -Get out the bell-bottoms again :-) -Try snowboarding--just try it! I loved it. -Dump the stupid clunky Cadillac -Throw away the lawn dart set and take up volleyball. Play it with all the life you have in you. Learn to beat the snot out of it. Play it outdoors. -For God's sake stop worrying about your hairline and shave your f*cking head already! Heads are good. There are many more ideas where that came from, but you get the gist of it--don't stereotype younger women unless you are willing to look at the older men they marry as well.  (Oct 26, 2007 | post #17)

Clerk threatens suspect with stick during attempted robbery

Interesting and well-considered post. The mark of a mind that can handle reason and wants solutions instead of violence. There are, indeed, many issues this situations creates. But what are the solutions? I have many in my neighborhood who may be illegals. I see them working VERY hard at the low-wage labor you speak of, but who will do it if they leave? All these people who clamor for their deportation wouldn't allow their 12-year-old to work for those wages, but it's okay to let others do it (and then urge violence against them). On the other hand, perhaps you're right--wages are driven down. I really don't know anything about that, since I am in a profession that requires native English speaking and don't have much contact. I also don't know for a fact (notice I said "fact," not knee-jerk made-up crap from conservative panic button types) how it affects public assistance and medical care. Maybe someone could post the FACTS behind this. Regardless, we seem to go from deporting them all to letting them all stay without qualification. These two extremes are going to be devastating to both native Americans and illegals. There has to be a middle ground--there are varying shades of grey in every issue--but I don't think Bush's plan is very good. Any ideas?  (Oct 26, 2007 | post #10)

Agreed! Also, many of the "Mexicans " are Colorado natives themselves. I suppose they would have to kill themselves. I think the original poster would be very hard-pressed to tell an "illegal " from someone of Mexican heritage who grew up right here anyway.  (Oct 26, 2007 | post #9)
