In Madison, cutbacks - and rage

Zaius, the first ones out here were 2,000 students from UW-Madison, grads and undergrads, when the protests started last Monday. You'd think I would be the first to know if I was getting paid anything or if the DNC had anything to do with our organizing. What incited that was the money Walker plans to take away from the university, we didn't need anyone else to get us riled up about that. Then on Tuesday, union members from Madison and neighboring districts came in. I cannot speak to who did their organizing for them, but there were elderly folks, men, women, and children. If the DNC helped unions from other districts charter buses, then you must blame American for Progress as well, because they paid for the Tea Party buses on Saturday, organized through the website standwithwalker.com, also paid for by Americans for Progress.  (Feb 21, 2011 | post #1101)

In Madison, cutbacks - and rage

Several out of state speakers have flown in to speak at rallies. These protests have been going on since last Sunday. Jesse Jackson didn't come until Friday, after news of the protests went national. What's your point, Zaius??  (Feb 21, 2011 | post #1042)

With Madison in chaos, enter the tea party

Pacfan, it's funny how much these angry folks from MN know so much about our public school system, so very much more than we who actually live here...::insert sarcasm here::  (Feb 21, 2011 | post #528)

GOP won't yield to protest in Wisconsin

They heard our voice clamoring outside the building and did what WE asked them to, which is stop this bill from getting steamrolled through the legislature, a bill that should have been deliberated on for weeks. Any peace of legislation this important is worth the time. But Gov. Walker announced it and expected it to be passed in 3 days!!!  (Feb 21, 2011 | post #98)

Unions' Fight in Madison Is a Disgrace

So...you're faulting me for getting an education? Hey Wisconsin parents, don't send your kids to UW-Madison or they'll become free loading egg-heads!! Yes, my parents helped me out with education, and I will love them until the day I die for it. What parent doesn't want to see their child educated and successful? But I've also worked hard to get where I am. Peddle your anti-intellectual hatred elsewhere. And the word is suckle, by the way.  (Feb 21, 2011 | post #38)

Great, links to back those figures? Do you know if those figures factor in or out school superintendents and high administration positions that make way more than the teachers? Sorry, I know quite a few public school teachers here in Madison, and none of them are anywhere near what you might call affluent. The lot of them are struggling to get by, just like everyone else.  (Feb 21, 2011 | post #1025)

GOP won't yield to protest in Wisconsin

FYI, republicans in support of the union strikers have spoken at several of our rallies over the past week at the protests here in Madison. Sorry to all of you who think this is a Dem-backed conspiracy ::eye roll::  (Feb 21, 2011 | post #94)

GOP won't yield to protest in Wisconsin

To those who say that Republicans won in Wisconsin, so they have a mandate to do whatever they want (when the governor was only elected by a slim margin), wouldn't Obama, by dint of being elected, also have a mandate to do what he wants? So STOP COMPLAINING about the health care bill then!  (Feb 21, 2011 | post #93)

Double posting this to debunk any crackpot theories that anyone outside local Wisconsin unions is behind the protests: Sorry to explode this particular myth, Outsider, but I'm with the teaching assistants union at the university here, been here since day one of the protest last Sunday, and I'm proud to tell you that WE are behind this protest, WE set up a food bank (since local businesses have been donating food like crazy!), trash clean up both inside and outside the building, a lost and found, information tables throughout the capitol. I'm so proud of my fellow students and how well they're running this. We had been planning this since early last december since we knew what was coming. Did I EVER ONCE here of Organizing for America (this is actually the first time I've ever been to that website)? Did we EVER ONCE get approached by the DNC? Nope. Sorry, but we Wisconsin unions are doing this all on our own, from Valentines day when we mobilized 2,000 people from the University community, TAs, undergrads, and their families, to the following days when union members from all over Madison and the rest of the state joined us. Give us credit where credit is due. We don't need "Americans for Progress" to bus us in.  (Feb 21, 2011 | post #1020)
