Bulldog ale house

Though I no longer do, I lived in the area my whole life. There is way more money from Mokena & Frankfort to support businesss on the East end of 30. Plus, no one from the West side of New Lenox or Cherry Hill or certainly the East side of Joliet wants to drive through cop central (Route 30) to have a few beers and then run the risk of getting pulled over on the way home.  (Jan 29, 2014 | post #6)

Making Friends in the area Saco

I am moving to Scarborough from Chicago next Wednesday and will be in the same boat! Luckily I bowl and that's a good way to meet people. Everyone loves the guy that buys the first round.  (Jun 20, 2013 | post #3)

The audacity of Apple's "ingenuity"

As far as manufacturing goes, which is the sector that had been decimated by foreign competition, tax breaks are almost essential in order to incentivize employers to hire domestically. Manufacturing, assmbly, the trades, etc are what made this country economically sound (certainly pre-WWII) and it's what can pull us out of the depression we're in now. The American appetite for inexpensive goods (read as: Chinese, Indonesian, Indian, etc) in insatiable, and until we start buying American-made goods, we will never pull out of it. Big-box retailers but cheap so they can sell cheap. Spend a couple extra bucks and buy something your neighbor made.  (Jun 9, 2013 | post #6)

How many games will the RHS Baseball Team win in 2013?

I would not be surprised because I've seen it first-hand, but thanks for the suggestion. I said there were anomalies, but the rule is that if all other things are equal (hands, footwork, BA, BABIP, etc), most coaches will go with size. It makes for a more versatile, durable player. My son is not much bigger than yours, by the way. Size isn't everything. Skill and focus and "coachability " go a long way for college players, for sure. As far as D1, D2, D3, etc - every kid wants to play D1 but some need to "settle" for D2, D3, NAIA, etc - I know that. The higher divisions are much more competitive and demanding, and that can lead to stress, which affects grades. You're not telling anyone here anything they don't already know. And you're being super defensive. I was just commenting on your post. I guess maybe that does make me an idiot.  (Feb 15, 2013 | post #23)

This amount of typographical errors will prevent a lot of people from taking you seriously. And size does matter. My son plays D1 in the MVC and I can say, that all other things the same, coaches will take the big kid over the small. Of course there are anomalies, but by-and-large, that is the "rule."  (Feb 14, 2013 | post #12)

Gemato's has some of the fattiest brisket I've ever had. I like Smokey's in Yorkville. Plus they serve beer. I don't care for Smoky's in Joliet, either; other than the chicken. The sides are marginal at best.  (Feb 9, 2013 | post #18)

Gay Marriage - Plainfield, IL

The sophistication comes from ACCEPTANCE and TOLERANCE. What do any of those guys in those pics have to do with you? How does them dressing up and dancing around and doing whatever the Hell they want to do with their penises affect you? You don't THINK it's right? Then look away  (Feb 3, 2012 | post #37)

Another Restaurant Bites the Dust?

On the whole, I think it'd be just fine with most Plainfield residents if the downtown area DIDN'T become a mecca of shopping, dining, et cetera, and remained just an attractive alternative to leaving town to shop and dine. We don't necessarily need people from other areas to look at Plainfield as a destination as long as it is made appealing enough to those that are already local to not travel outside of Plainfield. To do so, national or regional chains need to be brought in and people need a place to park.  (Oct 2, 2011 | post #13)
