What makes you say that?? Besides, Little Zip is a Busch CC, not a Cup CC (yet). I know that the Wood Brothers are a historic part of Nascar. They are a big part of why the sport is what is is today. And they probably had the most impact on making pit crews as important as they are today - they were the first to make pit stops the "race in the race." That being said, personally, I really don't think that JJ would want to go from a team who hasn't won since 2003 (18 car) to a team who hasn't won since Sadler at Bristol in 2001 and prior to that, Morgan Shepard way back in 1993!! Sorry, I know I am ranting but come on! I think that he has higher expectation for next year and beyond - and if I had to guess...I would say that he is sick and tired of being in the "re-building " stages. JMO...  (Jul 17, 2007 | post #133)

Oh man...that stinks. Well, too lose I guess. Bummer for those guys. Doesn't look like they are going to be able to fix it in time to get back out. YUK :(  (Jul 15, 2007 | post #122)

Dangit!! Flat tire for JJ :( Well, at least the caution was out, but they had to take 4 when everyone else 1 lap down only took 2. Oh well...  (Jul 15, 2007 | post #121)

I was wondering if anyone heard JJ's interview on Nascar RaceDay on Speed Channel?? I have known the story behind what he was "hinting " about for a couple of months. But just wondering if anyone was surprised that he was airing it out?? Kinda coached my Kenny Wallace, LOL! But still I was glad to hear him actaully say it out loud. Thoughts anyone??? I guess Kenny Wallace has a new "candidate " to promote :) I'm all for it!!!  (Jul 15, 2007 | post #119)

Well, I would love nothing more than to see JJ win a race this year and stay at Gibbs - but that is for personal reasons, he is such a great guy and so loyal and so faithful to Kristen and Faith. However, the unselfish part of me says "go JJ, go somewhere that you can shine and be a superstart again!!" You've got to love his smile and his up-beat attitude during his interviews, I can only imagine how happy he would be if he was running really well!!! Not to say that 17th in points is THAT shabby...but when you've got the superstars up in the top 10, it makes it hard to see any accomplishments on that team. It just really stinks that he has to be the marter for this 18 team. Weird when you think that JJ is ahead of all 3 Ganassi teams in the points. Over there, he'd be the hero!! Not that he should go over there...eeeek! I would like to see him at Hall of Fame Racing. Brandon Thomas (the CC) hails from JGR and headed up the entire COT R&D project over there before going to HOF to CC for the 96. I think that they would be a match made in heaven!!  (Jul 15, 2007 | post #106)

Hamlin vents frustration over teammate Stewart

Norma, you are right about him in the sense that he has gotten a bigger head since the inception of his career. But trust me...it has gotten WAY better than it was last year!!! He has mellowed out a lot this season. Now, when it comes to getting the best equipment, you are very wrong about that! Here is how it works over there: the driver(s) crew chiefs & car chiefs who are doing the best in the organization have more say in the way things are done. Let me know if you would like an example of this - but I think you understand. Also, Denny and Mike Ford are like a match made in heaven. Not to mention the car chief on his team; they call him Spider but his name is Chris. He is a work-a-holic and he is probably one of the smartest guys in the garage. He has been with that team since it's start, been through good times and bad and he is steadfast no matter what!! It's things like that the make that team as good or better than the 20 team. Since you are such a big Smoke fan, then I'm sure you know that his long-time (and only since 1999) Car Chief left at the end of the 2005 season. And since then, he has had a new guy in that position. So, there is more to it than you may think...that and other changes have had a dramatic impact on that team at the race track. So, it's not that he is getting better stuff...he's just got a better package all around. With the exception of his pit crew, they are pretty much a perfect team right now! Oh, and a note on pit crews...Gibbs won't put all of their "best" guys on one team. They spread out the tallent so that all of the pit crews have a chance to be competitive every week. Sometimes it seems that it would make sense for them to "stack" the teams - but then again...they are a "fair" organization and they typically don't play that way.  (Jul 15, 2007 | post #7)

Well gosh! I'm glad someone can see what is really going on over there! Sometimes it seems like people are looking through rose-colored glasses when it comes to that team. Thanks for being objective with your comments...all the while, being supportive too!  (Jul 14, 2007 | post #100)

Well said on your part too Action ;) And you are correct; his engineer is pretty young - but he's a smart guy...just needs a leader! As do all of those guys on the 18 team.  (Jul 14, 2007 | post #99)

Scott Zipadelli

Sorry Roxy...I was going off of what you said here: "I think it's funny that you say he has settled down a lot at this point - based on things that were known about him at the end of last season, he sure did settle down fast if he's living with someone and her kids! LOL!!! And based on recent comments he has made, he sounds like he still doesn't have a clue as to how a woman should be treated." And also off of what another poster said about how when he was asked, he would never admit it. Also, it seemed like other were calling it into question as well. Just wanted to make myself clear on that. When it comes to TGOM, you are wrong about that. I was once a huge fan of the gossip boards and I knew about everyone's everything! But that was years ago and now I am very involved in the sport. In fact, I don't think I could get much closer to the action than I am. I know Scott and have met Marnae her kids - they aren't around much. Infact, most CC's significant others aren't around most of the time. Nan Zipp is one of the exceptions - as you have probably seen, she and the kids go with Greg frequently. Anyway...back to what I was attempting to say. The drivers and their wives are probably very aware of TGOM - because they are discussed there in detail. However, most of the people who I am around and spend time with don't want to discuss anything about racing. And a couple of weeks ago, someone who is near and dear to my heart made the statement that "did you know that there was a website about the drivers GF's??" I replied with, "no, but I am not surprised." That is when I found it. Anyway...just wanted to cleat that up...  (Jul 13, 2007 | post #963)

Well, maybe we enjoy rooting for someone who is in 17th place in the standings. Once again...are you trying to say that no one should root for any driver unless they are in the top 12? or top 15? That is pretty shallow of you if that is what you are saying. I know people who are die-hard fans of Jeff Green, Robby Gordon, and Kenny Wallace. And I also know people who work very hard on those teams every week! This is the top level of competition and not everyone will win, especially in their 1st or 2nd year. There are those who will succeed early in their careers and then there are those who need more time and/or need a change to succeed. Take Casey Mears...he just won his first race in his 5th year in the Cup Series. And take Jamie Mac...yes, he won that race at Charlotte - but Sterling was running for a championship that year! Anyone could have gotten in that car and ran well. And what about Clint Bowyer? Yes, he is in the top 12, he's been consistent. But he hasn't won a race yet. And then there is Kenny Wallace, who has more fans than most of the drivers in the top 12. He is a nice guy and funny and a good family man - that is why people like him! This started as a family sport and that is why folks enoy rooting for drivers who are nice guys and good family guys. Regardless of what you think, sponsors care about things like that - if the sponsor likes the driver, then sometimes that is all it takes. If you see an issue with these reasons, then go ahead and vent your anger. But just realize that no one is going to change their minds because of what you say. I can remember a time when Jeff Burton was driving a plain white car with no sponsor and going through a huge drought! But no one is trashing your driver...at least not me. Jeff Burton was ROTY his first full-time year in Cup. But his average finish was right around 25th position - ironically, the same as JJ's during his first year. The difference?? Ummm...what every announcer called the "best rookie class EVERY in the sport." Lets see...Denny Hamlin is fabulous! No one, even 2-time Busch Series champ Truex could complete! And back in 2000, Kenseth beat Jr for the ROTY title - and Jr won a race! Sometimes, that is just how things work. I am all for giving him some more time to prove himself. I see that you aren't. But please relaize that you don't make the decisions about these kind of things. And no matter if JJ goes somewhere else or stays at Gibbs, I will still root for him. Because he is one of the classiest guys to ever grace the series.  (Jul 12, 2007 | post #83)
