Massive Sugar Plant Explosion in Georgia

Thanks goes to those praying, this is such a horrific event for this city. Almost everyone who has grown up in Savannah has or has family that has worked in the sugar refinery at one point. Some, started there when they were 18 when it first opened, and retired there.  (Feb 8, 2008 | post #6)

Massive Sugar Plant Explosion in Georgia

Sugar dust oddly enough, is highly explosive. In the mills where it is kept, there is so much compression that something as simple as static can cause an explosion.  (Feb 8, 2008 | post #5)

All of you people who just care about regulations, and laws, and prices, and coincidences, and the workers, and gas (for whatever reason that compares to sugar) are rediculous. 100+ people almost lost there lives and all some of you can do is rant about stupid stuff. Thanks goes to those who are keeping the city in there prayers, those that have a heart.  (Feb 8, 2008 | post #73)

Live Webcast: Many Injuries In Savannah Sugar Plant Explo...

They may not have an RMP, BUT they had a safety plan. They were given very straight forward safety precautions and prepped on how dangerous sugar it self is. The way the workers acted in response to the explosion shows that they were very well prepared. Take into consideration only 8-10 were in critical condition. Those being the ones closest. Everyone else made it out on there own two feet.  (Feb 7, 2008 | post #3)
