Local News - Shiloh Metropolitan Church Celebrates Christ...

Scott, I'm not so sure. What I heard was that he has joined another church as a member only. I can't believe ANY church would employ him in any capacity.  (May 14, 2008 | post #247)

My daughter went as far as to move to ANOTHER STATE because of the sad state of affairs our school system is in. That was THE motivating factor to move out of Jacksonville.  (May 8, 2008 | post #176)

I am quite sure, by now, that the School Board is well aware of this forum. I am sure by now that the School Board knows that the citizens of this County are LIVID by their actions. There is no need to send them a copy of this thread, I'm sure most of them have read most of it by now.  (May 8, 2008 | post #175)

Susan, I see absolutely NOTHING in Shakera's statement that was racial. Shakera simply stated that, as a government, "when they beat the skin off of African Americans (including children) No." She is absolutely correct on all accounts. It applies to all races amd all cultures. Our government, slowly but surely, are taking away the rights of the parents to discipline their children, and the children KNOW IT. Don't get me wrong, there are some LOUSY parents out there that need to be put in THEIR place. But our Government up to and including the WONDERFUL State service called the Department of Children and Families, which has a SPOTLESS record, to dictate to parents how to discipline their children. I come from an era where we were taught RESPECT. I was whipped and "beaten" as a child, but it WORKED! I come from an era when, if you misbehaved in school, you were disciplined AT school, your parents were called and told what happened, and you had to WALK home anticipating the discipline you were going to get from your parents! And the poor teachers have lost even LESS authority in their RESPECTED position to discipline their students. It is truly a sad state of affairs, no matter WHAT ethnicity or culture or race wer are referring to.  (May 8, 2008 | post #173)

As much as I agree to most every one of the points you have made, very some strongly, I'm not sure this is the proper forum to run for office. As a teacher, and assuming you are a DCSB teacher, you hit the nail on the head when you said, "We are suppose to be educating them, not baby-sitting them." As the actions of the ENTIRE board are totally absurd with regard to what little I know about this incident, and I would like to hear MORE of the story from someone OTHER than the school board or its representative. At this point, I have my OWN views about what needs to be done with this child, and none of them are politically correct to state here on this forum.  (May 8, 2008 | post #166)

Man Finds Check From 1971 After Arkansas Tornadoes

When MY grandfather died, we found documents, including cancelled checks, dating back to the 1890s. They in my possession to this day. That check is from someone's memories that got blown to shreds in a natural disaster. You are apparently a heartless **** **ch. News doesn't always cone in the form of murder, rape, and political shenanigans. Every once in a while it's nice to read a human interest story. Go take your pills.  (May 8, 2008 | post #5)

Incorrect, it DID work. I have VIVID recollections of the teacher strike back in the 1960s, although the exact details are sketchy now.  (May 8, 2008 | post #122)

True story ... I know of a kid who went to jail for 30 days. He told me this himself that, while in jail, his nickname was Jack. Do the math.  (May 8, 2008 | post #67)

Chuck, I'm in agreement with one exception. Look at the vote of the school board. Just because this incident happened in a school that happened to be in her district does NOT give her the blame. These emails should be sent to EVERY school board member, not just to Ms. Drake. This incident could have happened at ANY school in ANYONE'S district. Ms. Drake is only to blame as a member of the board in it's entirety. I do NOT believe she should be singled out just because it happened in her district.  (May 8, 2008 | post #99)

Sad to say, but not a bad idea in this day and age, if for no other reason than security. These aren't schools anymore. These are the places that parents send their children for a free babysitting service. And the teachers get blamed ....  (May 8, 2008 | post #94)

I totally agree with you Common .... this is ridiculous. I was going to do it the old fashioned way by writing each and every member by mail. You reminded me I can do it by email. Unless there are some serious facts omitted from this article, it is blatantly obvious that they were advised to by the attorneys and "bean-counter s."  (May 8, 2008 | post #90)
