Rick Hansen wraps his 25th anniversary Man in Motion tour...

Those Who Forget History Are Doomed to Repeat It! Rick Hansen and the many other organizations are to be commended for improving the lives of people but do people know that spinal cord research includes cruel experiments on animals? In 1987 Lifeforce provided Mr. Hansen with scientific proof that intentionally paralysing rats, cats, dogs pigs, and monkeys will not help injured people. Hansen went on to fund animal experiments. The use of “animal models” is not only inhumane but also is scientifically fallacious. The breakthroughs have resulted from human clinical studies and other non-animal methodologies. That will stop the waste of research monies and find those cures.  (May 22, 2012 | post #1)

Those Who Forget History Are Doomed to Repeat It! Rick Hansen and the many other organizations are to be commended for improving the lives of people but do people know that spinal cord research still includes cruel experiments on animals? In 1987 Lifeforce provided Mr. Hansen with scientific proof that intentionally paralysing rats, cats, dogs pigs, and monkeys will not help injured people. The use of “animal models” is not only inhumane but also is scientifically fallacious. The breakthroughs have resulted from human clinical studies and other non-animal methodologies. Read the history and why many doctors oppose vivisection at http://lifeforcefo undation.org/newsi tem.php?id=152 There are many organizations that conduct humane, ethical research to donate to. I hope that everyone will ask Rick Hansen if they will become a charity that does not support further failed experiments on sentient animals? That will stop the waste of research funds and find those cures.  (May 19, 2012 | post #1)

Rick Hansen and Animal Experiments

Do people know what they are donating to? People should have the right to know! Will Rick Hansen Stop Cruel, Unnecessary Animal Experiments? Here’s an Open Letter. Dear Rick Hansen: I hope that during your next 25 years of raising money for spinal cord research (SCR) we will see the end of inhumane, scientifically fallacious spinal cord experiments on animals. It was 25 years ago when Lifeforce, a Vancouver based ecology and animal rights organization, gave you extensive data about the failure of ...“animal models” but you went on to fund animal experiments. Your Boards have had many vivisectors directing your funding priorities. You raised $20 million for SCR as the “Man in Motion”. Your “dream” for a cure is a nightmare for animals. It is time to stop the barbaric experiments that have been repeated for over 50 years. New technologies, clinical/ epidemiological studies permit humane studies with humans. That is how breakthroughs are discovered! ... CONTINUED IN THE PETITION BELOW. Rick Hansen Supports Cruel, Unnecessary Animal Experiments

Rick Hansen recently said, “In the next 25 year years ... newly injured will have a chance to walk away.” (CTV March 26, 2012) No cures so far in his first 25 years. And actually in over 50 years of experiments on animals in general. Lifeforce told him it would not work in “animal models” but now they want to try new ones. More waste of lives and money. One of the “themes” of the researchers in the new “icord” building at Vancouver General Hospital is to create new animal models of spinal cord injuries. The past animal models failed. They say they want to try to speed up“... progress in finding a cure to paralysis after an SCI”. This will mean more suffering to animals that are intentionally inflicted with spinal cord injuries. The often misleading results from animal models could actually harm people. The use of such animal models is a waste of scarce health care funds.  (Mar 28, 2012 | post #2)
