New $1 cigarette tax has Florida smokers fuming

From your link in post 1155 "California's restaurant and bar sales have increased since it enacted its own restaurant smoking bans in 1995 and 1998"  (Jul 31, 2009 | post #1229)

Review the statute, yes you can.  (Jul 30, 2009 | post #1226)

Notice that you can't discuss on the merits and make an ad hominem attack.  (Jul 30, 2009 | post #1225)

You'll have to take that up with 70.8% of the voters of Florida. Business owners still have the choice as to allow smoking or not. Why would they need to ignore the bans? You said business went up after smoking limitations went into effect in California.  (Jul 30, 2009 | post #1222)

I was enjoying the discussion, I don't know why you have reduced it to foul language. I have never used the word indoors. That is a word that you are bringing into the conversation. You seem intent on arguing the meaning of the word inside, another word I have never used. The word I have used is enclosed. In this sense it is a legal term and it is defined in post 1206. The words inside, indoors, an enclosed for purposes of this conversation are not interchangeable. My stance on this has been consistent. Owners can choose to create a smoking section, or use the caveats that allow smoking in an enclosed area per state statutes.  (Jul 30, 2009 | post #1221)

I've read it several times. I suggest you should read it. It is entirely up to the property owner as to allow smoking or not. There are several businesses in Florida where you may dine & smoke.  (Jul 30, 2009 | post #1218)

Actually you can. You might want to read the statute.  (Jul 30, 2009 | post #1214)

I never said you could.  (Jul 30, 2009 | post #1208)

Sorry, that should read. Smoking limitations were passed by voters because they don't enjoy smoke.  (Jul 29, 2009 | post #1204)

Now we're having trouble with three words, indoors, inside, enclosed. You can sit inside your house, but if you open a window you are not enclosed. You seem to understand the words to mean that once I open my window I am no longer inside. Business owners can design their establishments as such that allow their patrons to be indoors, while not being enclosed. Also, keep in mind that there are caveats in most states that do allow people to smoke, even if the business is enclosed.  (Jul 29, 2009 | post #1203)

I imagine that smokers passed smoking bans because they don't enjoy smoke.  (Jul 29, 2009 | post #1202)

Smoking is permitted in several establishments. The word that is giving us trouble here is enclosed. I can be inside my car, but if my windows are open it is not enclosed.  (Jul 29, 2009 | post #1194)

As I have said all along it is your right, and your un warranted personal attack does not change that. The law in Florida does not affect your choice in that matter. Feel free to read the state statute.  (Jul 29, 2009 | post #1193)

And as I have said all along, that is the way it is now.  (Jul 28, 2009 | post #1172)

Of course. If a restaurant owner chooses to allow smoking and you don't enjoy the smell don't go there.  (Jul 28, 2009 | post #1169)
