Daley announces $227 million program to improve CTA buses...

Wishfull thinking on my part... The citizens may pay for the Olympics, but when all is said and done we'll have a CTA that will work for another 50 years - and that's reason enough for me. Now let me find that link to Bolingbrook realtors for you...  (Feb 14, 2008 | post #63)

Evanston residents ask for break from tax, fee increases

Saul - obviously you have no idea what Evanston is actually like to live in or have never been educated in what a socialist government looks like. Evanston has some interesting programs, but is hardly socialist. If it is, maybe we should institute socialism world wide as I don't see very many people needing much. My biggest complaint with Evanston is that the city will let anyone build any tacky, oversized, and unnecessary building. They've allowed our city to be saturated with vacant condos that no one wants and can't afford. These luxury condos will become the next public housing if this recession lasts a while.  (Feb 13, 2008 | post #17)

Your Valentine's say

When I was younger and single I used to throw an Anti-VD party every year. The decorations would be enlarged photo copies of the most deranged personal ads I could find pasted on red heart doilies. One year I served a heart shaped cake that 'bled' when cut. No one was allowed to bring a date. I think that was key to this being such a fun party, no one had to worry about anyone else and could just have fun. Now that I'm not single I still think this is a stupid holiday, but find that there isn't any harm in it, just don't go crazy. Go out for a nice dinner, buy each other a small token and remember that the whole purpose is to tell your special someone that you love them.  (Feb 12, 2008 | post #191)

Feds Announce Plan to Delay Foreclosures

You are right that this won't cost anything upfront - but it will only delay the inevitable. This will only get worse as we stay in this recession (and most economists think this will get worse). This is really just a ploy by the GOP to get them through elections when the market will really tank. Don't forget the repugnican'ts that created this market (and it goes back to the Regan years and the Trickle Up economics). That's why the intelligent, hardworking Americans will vote for Obama in '08. There will always be half the population that is the dumber half and only half of those will vote for a repug after this lousy admnistration.  (Feb 12, 2008 | post #8)

Senate Plan Lets Big Earners Get Rebates

Last time I checked those of us without kids do NOT get extra exemptions, do not get a tax break, and are NOT using the resources that you and your children are. Therefore we are supporting programs we are not using. Do not get defensive about it. It's a fact. However, that is one of the prices you pay living in our society. You pay taxes to support programs that you may or may not need or use, but add to the overall support of our society. The same thing could be said of the fire department. I pay taxes to provide for this service whether I have a fire or not, and I'm glad to be paying for it. What I'm opposed to is giving a tax break for people adding to the population. We should be rewarding people for adopting, being a foster parent, and making smart choices about procreating. Having children should involve some level of financial planning. People should not be having kids if they cannot support them.  (Feb 8, 2008 | post #245)

Senate Plan Lets Big Earners Get Rebates

I hated Bush when he was running for president. I hate Bush as president, and I'm sure we as a country will be cursing him until our children are gone for the disasters that haven't even happened yet but were created by this pandering, theocratic, science hating, education destroying, war mongering, fossil fuel addict, mentally challenged, egomaniac. The only good that will come out of this presidency is that it will be next to impossible for repugnicants to get elected for decades.  (Feb 8, 2008 | post #242)

Huge project proposed over Metra railroad tracks near McC...

And who's going to live there? All the people that had to foreclose? I wish we could show some good judgement and see where the housing market glut is going before jumping into another project the city will have to pump money into.  (Feb 6, 2008 | post #62)

He says he can no longer endure winter months

There's more to someplace being 'liveable' than the weather. This guy sounds like a child that doesn't like what's for dinner. Most of the south is a culture vacuum - so he'd rather live where it's a little warmer but where you'd have to drive 2 hours to see a play or find a museum with decent collection, but that's my opionion. What is really selfish is that he'd rather cut his wife off from the people she's known most of her life and a business that she's nurtured all for a little more sun. He might be doing her a favor if he left her.  (Feb 4, 2008 | post #69)

Common courtesy conquers the perils of the bike path

Cylists should be responsible for knowing the rules for their community. In my community, bikes should either be on designated bike paths or the street. Sidewalks and walking paths are for pedestrians only. Even with clearly marked paths I'm amazed at the number of cylists using the walking paths and the number of pedestrians walking in the bike paths. However, during the warmer months I'm almost run down 2 or 3 times a day by cylists using the side walk (and there is no lack of signage). If your community does not have paths clearly marked you should be contacting your mayor, alderman, councilman, to identify this problem. With fuel prices rising and more people taking care of their health, these should be addressed.  (Jan 31, 2008 | post #6)
