Stalling's council limits mayor's role

The problem I have with what she said and did is that by sitting on the MUMPO board as Mayor of stallings she was able to talk longer than the three minutes allowed by MUMPO to express her personal feelings. Three minutes is allowed for all private citizens. When she is there to represent the Stallings board then she should respect the stallings board and speak only of their wishes. If she wishes to speak her personal opinion she should have to do just as Barbera and speak at the podiom and for three minutes only like everyone else and make it clear, not just hint by saying "I think" , that she is speaking her opinion and not that of the council. With how you are reading what I said before then I could say that I think that "Anonomouse " supports 18A and will continue to support 18A no matter what, and that should mean that it is my opinion, but when you sit in front of an official meeting such as MUMPO it is very important that the board members there speak only in facts, and if it is not fact and it is personal opinion then it is also important to make it very clear. She may not have voted at the meeting but in my eyes she has cheated the people that went there to speak by only allowing them three minutes and taking much more than three minutes to speak her own opinion  (Dec 17, 2008 | post #30)

Maybe so but they do not have the henderance of the commercial traffic of tractor trailors and all the employees of 15 to 20 businesses using the one entrance along with them.  (Dec 17, 2008 | post #17)

Stalling's council limits mayor's role

Not at all as long as it is specified that what you are saying is your own opinion and you don't try to make out as if what you are saying is also the way that everyone else in the town council feels and votes. The vote as it stands with Stallings town council is in favor of 18A. That is what should be taken in front of MUMPO and the Turnpike folks and without Paxton saying, "but I think" , she is there to cary forward the word of the council and the word of the people of stallings. If she wishes to speak out against 18A then she should do so just like us as a private citizen with a three minute alotment and do just as Barbera did and say "I am here to speak on my own behalf and not on the behalf of Stallings in an Official cappacity"...  (Dec 10, 2008 | post #25)

I must say that i would rather have the 3 entrance exits to my neighborhood that i have now than to have it cut down to one that will greatly depleat emergency services ability to access the neighborhood especialy when there is a wreck or traffic jams which wiill happen under this little tunnel that they will have to go thru to cross 74 to get to the one exit in the new plan. And yes I think that the school should have been held up until this road was finalized. I that was too much trouble then they should have found a better site for the school. As it is now they have endangered these children already by putting this school on a road that is too narrow for two school buses to pass on safely, and by putting the entrance to the school so close to a non traffic light intersection allowing cars turning in and out not enough room to do so safely. I would also rather that this road be built in a place that would be away from were my children play outdoors all summer long during the hight of beach traffic so that I don;t have to worry about the fumes from exaust and the possibility of one of those cargo trucks crashing into my front yard and killing children at play in their own yard. At least at school they are indoors learning and breathing clean air. What you are wanting is for them to be prisoners at their own home.  (Dec 10, 2008 | post #13)

No. There was no actual vote at this meeting, only a discussion.  (Dec 10, 2008 | post #23)

nov 19 MUMPO and Paxtons foot in mouth

If you did not come to the meeting, you should have. Paxton tryed to make one of her own board members out to be a liar. She said that the towns "official stand" to support 18 a was not true. She says that they would have never revoted had they had a full board the night of the revote. Well, to me that sounds like one of those shoulda, woulda, coulda, but didn't. She also said that of the people that she spoke to in Forest Park, she was told that Forest Park did't care one way or another about were the bypass goes. I don't know who she talked to but of all my neighbors I have yet to hear any of them say anything positive about option 2. As a matter of fact of all my neighbors that I talk to, and I do so on a daily basis, they have all opposed option 2 because it will ruin our lives. She also says that one of the votes that was counted by the board was prejudist because that person has property in the effected area and that his vote should not have counted. Well if that is the case then noone in union county should vote on anything to do with the bypass. Because everyone in union county has land in the effected area and everyone on Stalling board is effected and we all, everyone in union county, elected official and private citizen alike, whether you like it or not will be effected. Something else I thought was rather strange about the meeting was that out of the over 2 thousand sighners of the petition against 18A, there were only 3 that showed up, one of witch was Paxton. There were 4 from forest park plus at least 2 others from the stallings area present to support 18A, 3 of which stood up and spoke out against option 2. Only one spoke for the over 2 thousand. If they are so concerned then why do they not show up and at least show support for the ones that do speak. I personaly do not do in person public speaking but I do show up and show my support. Thank you to the three that spoke up and I will continue to support my neighbors and my town. If we don't make a stand for what is best for our town and our county it is quite obviuos that our Mayor Paxton sure won't.  (Nov 19, 2008 | post #1)

Bypass routes down to 2

Hwy 218 if it were 4 laned would do exactly what they want and it already hooks to 485 witch will let any beach or truck traffic dispurse onto a major beltway in any direction they need to go and it would not be near as intrusive. I know that it would be too much to hope for and would make too much sence for the turnpike folks to go that way.  (Nov 12, 2008 | post #11)

Tolls will be on all of Monroe Bypass

I am speaking to the "ANONYMOUS " poster with the smelly opinion. The people that support option 2 are idiots. They don't see the lives and livelyhoods that it will ruin. They also don't see that it will cost too much to build. Option 2 will have, in stallings alone, 6 bridges that are very costly to build and maintain, a raised dirt filled wall that the turnpike athority has no idea how to build much less how much it will cost to build, and the turnpike folks will have to buy up buisness property all along 74 and also pay for the businesses that rent or lease those properties. With 18A there are 2 bridges and only 2 or 3 businesses that will be moved. This being said i would hope that the people that make the final decision will use common sence and go with the least costly and least intrusive.  (Nov 9, 2008 | post #36)

Stallings residents oppose Connector route

I bought a house in stallings 4 years ago and was not informed of this road being in the works. The house I bought is directly effected so sorry if you don't like it and don;t live here, I live here and despise it. I can definatly feel your pain.  (Nov 9, 2008 | post #2)

Bypass routes down to 2

I happen to live at the mathews, stallings line. I also happen to go to the beach every other weekend. I happen to us 218 for the very reason that it does cut down drive time. I take 485 to 218 around to 74 to 211 to oak island. If I use 74 straight thru it takes me 4 hours. Using 218 it takes me 3 and a half. There are many cutovers to 218 that many people could use that won't take you way out of your way. I have been making the trip to oak island every other weekend for the last 5 years and no matter what time of year or what time of day, 218 is much faster than sitting thru the lights in monroe, and on top of that 218 does not ruin lives in stallings and it does not cost me to use it.  (Nov 9, 2008 | post #9)

Compromise possible for Bypass routes?

Hwy 218 was built for the same purpose as what they say this bypass is for and it is free to use. Noone uses it. What makes anyone think that they will pay to use this new bypass? Besides, the traffic that we see every AM and Pm is that of people commuting to and from monroe, not BEACH TRAFFIC. BEACH TRAFFIC exists in the summer months and primarily on the weekends. BEACH TRAFFIC is not the problem.  (Nov 4, 2008 | post #12)

You probably live in Eagle Crest beside Linda. I think that everyone who thinks that option 2 has a very big oppinion problem. Just because you were told of the plans before others and had more time to get your petitions together doesnt make your opinion any less smelly.  (Nov 4, 2008 | post #3)

Bypass routes down to 2

This bypass will not cut down the traffic on 74 during the week or in the winter when there is no BEACH TRAFFIC. The traffic problem will only get better if they make it possible for more people to get from monroe to charlotte. The traffic we see every morning is that of people trying to get to work or home. There is not that much BEACH TRAFFIC. Come on people get real. This is just another way for some more government waistful spending. If you want to go to the beach without hitting all the lights in monroe then use 218 thats why it was built. And now look how few use it and its FREE. If they build a toll road it will be useless.  (Nov 4, 2008 | post #7)

I see one major problem with the ideas shown here. Who is going to read those signs to the illegal aliens and who will teach the lawmakers common sence??  (Nov 4, 2008 | post #10)
