Donnell Dent's daughter dead

Careful there. I was one who had no problem leaving my doors unlocked in Erath then someone stole my new riding mower right out of my yard while we were home. My mom had her vehicle stolen right out of her garage in broad daylight while she was in the shower and all in the middle of downtown Erath. Misconception people Erath has crime toooo.  (Jun 10, 2012 | post #15)

REALLY??? Hummm he arrested one middle schooler for possession right in front on me??? He pulls duty and walks the halls everyday??? Caught someone as they were stealing money from the vending machines in the teachers lounge??? Paper work in "his office"??? Erath schools are not big enough for each teacher to have their own workspace much less a special spot for a bored police officer to do his paperwork on school board time... Dont talk if you dont know. I KNOW because I'm there everyday If you sleep better at night thinking you're worse off than the places around you than good for you. Open your eyes, EVERY community has hardship. Just not every community wants the world to have pity on them cuz they have it "so bad" pity ain't gonna make the world a safer place and if you think you can be a better police officer or Chief of Police then hey GO FOR IT.  (Jun 10, 2012 | post #256)

If it will make your life complete to know the data then here goes Percentage of African American Students is 9% Asian 7% Hispanic 5% so it looks like blacks are not the minority.  (Mar 21, 2012 | post #199)

BTW NotFadeAway. FYI Erath Middle and Erath High have had and do have several children in campus with house arrest collars and parole officers. We also have had students bring drugs to school, do drugs at school and so on. Difference is we don't sit around complaining about how bad our students are. We follow procedure when necessary and don't label kids as "bad" kids. We educate them the best we can no matter what the case may be. That's what makes our schools great. The attitude that there are children that want to learn so we teach. There are those that could care less about learning but guess what? We teach even harder.  (Mar 21, 2012 | post #198)

Not waving a flag there at all. Hit a little too close to home maybe. Know for a fact because guess what. My children attend EHS and EMS. I also teach there. We do NOT send them home!! Get your facts straight. Parents make the decision to homeschool not school personnel. Sorry if people can handle the consequences laid out by Vermilion Parish School Districts. There is a perfectly spelled out procedure that IS followed when a student chooses to not follow the rules just as there is in the REAL world. Read the handbook sent home on the first day of school which states the consequences for each offense. There is a list of offenses and they are divided by severity. Each group spells out the consequences for 1st offense right down to the final stage where a student would be if the out right defy authority time and time again. Yes they are sent home if you are referring to suspension and or expulsion. There are specific offenses that require ANY school to take these measures. In the REAL world this would be the point where a drug dealer, repeated offender, someone carrying concealed weapons or sex offenders would end up in jail. Schools follow the same laws of society in order to teach these children how to stay out of jail and make something out of themselves. As a parent I would be the first to deal with my kids if the showed up at ANY school trying to sell dope. You cannot blame others or make excuses for the blatant disregard for rules is what I teach my kids. Maybe those whose kids get "thrown out" of school should thank the school system for trying to instill values into the future citizens if our community.  (Mar 21, 2012 | post #197)

Nice try. Technically it is not a complete sentence so a capital letter is not required. A complete sentence normally contains a subject and a verb. If it were an interjection you would be correct. My error would be omission of quotation marks.  (Mar 14, 2012 | post #174)

Yes this is true. Lip Service was probably referring to the fact that it is a bit safer to walk down the streets of Erath than some areas of abbeville. I understood the comment because I live in Erath and have been in shady areas of Abbeville. Why is there a monument of John Hardy why the John Hardy Memorial Drive? Maybe because he was walking the streets of Abbeville and tried to keep the streets safe and someone killed him???  (Mar 13, 2012 | post #164)

Since you know a little about a lot maybe you can explain why Erath schools have a police officer on campus all day everyday. For real people. Don't claim you have it so bad and Erath has it so good when you have no clue. Erath students get pregnant, do drugs, etc. Difference is Erath Administrators take action. Why else would there be so many Haters here. Mr Touchet probably pissed them off when he tried to make them be responsible parents. Easy to criticize Mr Touchet than to accept the fact that you probably should be a parent. Maybe you could have avoided the whole run in with Erath schools forcing you to deal with your own child. Why should he allow these kids to rob other kids that give a crap about getting an education of the chance to make something of themselves?  (Mar 13, 2012 | post #163)

The term "Holy Land" originated from the fact that Mr. Reaux carried his rosary with him as a source of strength. He felt that God would help guide him as he made decisions that affected so many. Maybe a little faith in something would help. Strange fact: Erath schools were built in the 1950's. If they were given special treatment you would think that someone somewhere would have figured out a way to provide their students with a locker before building a new school in Maurice or building a school in Erath where Abbeville children could be educated.  (Mar 13, 2012 | post #160)

Thank you!!!! Good to see someone has a clue as to what it takes to make a school successful. The rest of the commenters are quick to lay the blame elsewhere. Maybe it's just too painful for them to look in the mirror and say it might have a little to do with their attitude. Hummmm  (Mar 13, 2012 | post #159)

Enough already. JH Williams, Erath Middle, Eaton Park, North Vermilion the formula is all the same. They are all schools and they all have students. Maybe the difference is that In Erath when a kid walks into the classroom they are taught. The teacher/principal doesn't check to see if the kid is from Abbeville then throw their hands in the air and say that kid can't be taught because they come from JH Williams. That probably has some effect on the results. Every kid is a good kid if you reach in and find a way to give them what they need to excel.  (Mar 13, 2012 | post #156)

I don't know where you got that info from but you have been misinformed. The way it works at Central Office is when an employee works through lunch , goes in on the weekend or stays there til all hours of the night they earn comp time (the real world gets overtime). They can use this comp time which is why your source may have observed someone taking time off without loosing income. If you don't know don't talk.  (Mar 13, 2012 | post #155)

AMEN. Education starts in the home. If parents can't step up to the plate then it makes no difference what school the kid goes to the results will be the same. So they homeschool their children??? REALLY?? That seems logical. Keep my kid home so I don't have to get out of bed and get them off to school.  (Mar 13, 2012 | post #154)
