Roman Catholic church only true church, says Vatican

I understand that the Catholic Church has its laws and wants to be seen as the true church. But this pope is so insensitive to other people. He may see the Catholic Church as the only true church, but others obviously don't. And Jesus never gave a label to himself. And in the Gospels and Epistles, they were "Followers of Christ," and no denomination other than that was given to them. As someone who was a proud cafeteria Catholic and now is Protestant, I can say the arrogance and desire to squelch dissension is ridiculous. I am a thinking human being, and yes, I am entitled to pick and choose what I believe in regards to religion. We all do. No one person can believe everything in the Bible or every doctrine that is put out there. I have even met very conservative Catholics who for the most part are conservative, yet one issue touches too close to home and all of a sudden they are open-minded. Read Exodus and Deuteronomy and see if we that is the kind of society you want to have. Then read the Gospels and see how Jesus rejected all of those laws. My religious beliefs feed my soul and hopefully help me be a better person, but I cannot impose that on others. And a lot of the Catholic Church's logic for some of its rules is ridiculous. Like celibacy vows for priests originated because the children of priests were claiming inheritance rights of church land and winning. Only later was a biblical spin put on it. The Catholic church is like a out of touch monarchy with it's rigid structure and many rules that may have made sense at some point in history but no longer do. We have brains and we need to learn to use them, and they should not shut down in regards to religion. That is how cults get started. Although I am not happy with what the pope said, let him say what he wants. He is probably doing more for Protestantism than anyone else right now.  (Jul 27, 2007 | post #3028)

Gay Minister Taken Off Roster

J. Kent Ashcraft May 2000 Dear Dr. Laura, Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind him that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to best follow them. a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself? f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an Abomination (Lev 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? g) Lev 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here? h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27. How should they die? i) I know from Lev 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev 24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging. Your devoted disciple and adoring fan.  (Jul 7, 2007 | post #333)

Ohio Mom's Body Found; Boyfriend Charged

People are arguing that Jessie Davis' lifestyle got her killed. Laci Peterson was married to the father of her unborn child and he killed her so he could run off with the girlfriends he was with. Both men in these situations did not want to deal with their responsibilities and thought killing was the answer. And he was the married one, so if we want Old Testament laws to rule, he should be murdered as well. There are probably a lot of people who are legally married but divorced in every other way. Murder is not always the outcome of these situations, nor should it be.  (Jul 7, 2007 | post #703)

Ohio Mom's Body Found; Boyfriend Charged

I am bi-racial(white mom/black father)and my parents have been married for 33 years. I am very successful and my father has never abused my mother. And I would like to think that I and my brother are a good result of that. There have been many cases of same race couples (Scott & Laci Peterson as an example) where the husband kills the wife. If this case had never made it to national tv, you would not be able to use this tragic situation for your own bigoted opinion. It is 2007 and there are many happy and functional interracial couples. Race is not an indicator of whether a relationship will work or not. And because interracial relationships are so much more common, you will be encountering many people like me, so just hold onto that bigotry and see where it gets you.  (Jun 26, 2007 | post #258)

Searching for someone

Hi, I am looking for someone. I only knew him a short time but I am concerned about him. His name is Dave, he lives in Iron Ridge, WI but is from Milwaukee. He has short brown hair, about 6 feet tall, and works in real estate. I realize I am not entitled to details, but I just want to know that he is ok. Thanks for taking time to read this.  (May 22, 2007 | post #1)

Iron Ridge Friend

Hello, I am wondering about someone I met online many months ago. I do not know him well, but I haven't heard from him in a long time and was concerned. His name is Dave, he's single, lives in Iron Ridge, works in Real estate, and his bday is at the end of Feb. I was wondering if anybody knew who I was talking about and if they could give me any info. I don't mean to pry so I do not except details, but I need to know if he is ok or if he isn't (but will be in the future).  (Apr 1, 2007 | post #1)
