Can Rick Santorum escape his past?

Mr. Frothy cannot escape his past because he lives in his own past. He is one of the worst human beings I've ever known and I'm desperately sorry and embarrassed that he ever represented the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Senate. If he had any sense at all he'd fade quietly into obscurity and leave public life behind. He's so desperate to be "important " and he does nothing these days except embarrass himself and his family at every turn. Dan Savage choose the definition of "Santorum " as "the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex." That moniker will forever stay with him and he brought it on himself by being so hateful and bigoted.  (Friday May 29 | post #33)

Science magazine retracts study on voters' gay-rights views

The study was flawed or, at the very least, had too many unanswered concerns. It quite correctly should have been retracted. The appearance of an impropriety is as damaging to the scientific process and the results as an actual impropriety.  (Friday May 29 | post #14)

Gareth Lee had an order for a cake bearing a pro gay marr...

You know what. I do plenty of things in my job that I don't exactly enjoy nor do I always agree with every aspect of my job. I get paid to do my job as a professional, short of breaking the law I do my job. Baking a cake and decorating it per the customer's specifications does not imply endorsement or rejection of the decoration or any message therein. If you're a baker and you're getting paid to bake and decorate a cake, then be a professional and bake and decorate the damn cake. I give you money, you bake and decorate the cake as I request as long as I'm not asking you to violate some law (copyright or otherwise). It's a business transaction and nothing more. What is also interesting is that these "Christian " business owners only ever seem to have issues with LGBT customers. You never hear about there being a problem with anyone else's order - just cakes or flowers or pizza being requested by LGBT customers. I'm sorry but that seems more than a little suspect and terribly convenient. If this case was about copyright issues with the images of Bert and Ernie then the bakers may have had a point. But, based on testimony reported in the article, it wasn't. Their personal beliefs are just that personal - and they're entitled to them - leave 'em at the door of your shop.  (Tuesday May 19 | post #9)

May 9: Anti-gay assault, assisted suicide and McDonald's

No argument from me. I always thought we treated people terrible when it comes to the end of their life.  (Saturday May 9 | post #3)

Alabama bill would let ministers refuse same-sex marriages

Well the 1st says CONGRESS shall make no law...". The argument is that, in this case, CONGRESS is not making a law so therefore the 1st doesn't come into play. Technically that would be correct. The argument is, however, does the 1st apply to the States or JUST to Congress. The 1st does NOT say "State Legislatures shall make no law" I agree these law protect ministers is stupid and not required but I'm not sure an argument based on the 1st amendment has the merit you believe it has. I can see both arguments.  (Friday May 8 | post #54)

Alabama bill would let ministers refuse same-sex marriages

Irrespective of the first amendment argument (and I believe Belle there may very well be one) I don't have a problem with that. Churches whose doctrine does not support marriage equality should not be forced to perform weddings. I wouldn't want to get married in such a church in the sight on that God anyway.  (Thursday May 7 | post #6)

Being Gay Is 'Death Worthy,' According to Georgia Church ...

Wedding cake? I thought it was pizza catering we were going after. Crap. My bad for that whole Illinois thing then....sorry.  (Monday May 4 | post #87)

Being Gay Is 'Death Worthy,' According to Georgia Church ...

Oh no, heterophobia does exist. Trust me when I see straight people put up signs calling for my death I do harbor a kernel of fear of those particular heterosexuals. Most heterosexuals though present me no danger and therefore I don't fear them.  (May 2, 2015 | post #45)

Cakes bake tension between gay rights, religious objections

Religion, as a whole, has done far more harm than good throughout human history. It's been wielded as a holy edict from whichever god someone believes in to do harm to others with whom they disagree or who occupy a particular piece of land or are simply of a particular faith. The Bible, which you quote, is replete with god saying is okay for the these people to be killed and those people to be killed. There's smiting going on all over the place. The fact there was slavery in the Bible was used as the justification for slavery in many countries...includ ing our own. One could very easily argue that if there were no religion there would have been no Jews and so the holocaust might very well not have happened. The Bible is still used today as a weapon against the LGBT community so don't tell me religion is innocent. I call BS.  (Apr 10, 2015 | post #72)

Cakes bake tension between gay rights, religious objections

Well yeah. Save everyone time and hassle. Have the courage of your convictions and post it publicly so we all know where we can and can't shop. Problem solved. EZPZ lemon squeezy.  (Apr 8, 2015 | post #20)

Cakes bake tension between gay rights, religious objections

I still think if you don't want to serve the LGBT community or (insert name of religion(s) here) or (insert color of skin here) people or people who come from (insert a country name outside the U.S. here) you should post that outside your business so we all know in advance who will serve whom.  (Apr 8, 2015 | post #10)

God has blessed us: Donations to Indiana pizzeria approac...

What I find interesting is that, as far as I know, this pizza shop was the only place to publicly embrace the new law which either has or is in the process of being changed. THEY choose to close because they couldn't handle the fallout from their public statement. And the big threat was 1 stupid person letting their emotions overrule their reason and making a stupid threat on Twitter. Now they never have to open again, which is probably a good thing because I don't suspect lots of people are going to eat there anymore. Of course, I still don't understand how providing pizza to a wedding party somehow befouls your faith or beliefs. That leap is too great for me to make.  (Apr 5, 2015 | post #58)

And that's it isn't it? Taxpayers in these various states should be angry as hell that their governments are wasting their tax dollars on cases that they are all but certain to lose.  (Mar 20, 2015 | post #14)
