Green Country Native Breaks Boundaries With Crossbow, Camera

i don't mind people hunting. we (as humans) have over populated the world, killing most of the natural predators along the way. my friend and i sat of our horses and looked off the hill we were on this evening. for miles, all we saw were the roofs of houses. 5, 10 years ago, it was all rural area. there is no place for deer to go, bear to go, boars. they are getting diseases because there are no cougars to pick off the sick ones before the sickness spreads, no wolves, and fewer coyotes. hunt, but hunt responsibly. hunt in a way that will help (yes, i said help!) the environment. most serious hunters do, they respect the world around them. i would go hunting if i had the skill. fresh venison stew is the best on a winter's evening. i like the taste of wild boar, and i've heard bear is good, it's next on my list of food to try.  (Oct 24, 2010 | post #7)

Oklahoma Food Stamp Program Facing Crisis

1. how do you know she's not on a library computer, which is available for free? 2. do you know how much child care is? it is less expensive right now for me to stay at home and provide good care for my children than it would be to pay a daycare center, where you don't know what kind of care your child will receive. just because a person is on food stamps does not make them lazy or unfit. yes, there are plenty who abuse the system, but there is a set limit on what you can spend, it's not an all-you-can-spend thing. i do agree there are things you should not be able to get, or only get in limited quantities. pop, chips candy... you should not be able to get those at all. when we were on food stamps, we ate healthier than we did without. normally, we can't afford fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meat and good juice. on food stamps we were able to. yes, i was guilty of buying the occasional bottle of pop or chips or candy as a treat, but only at the end of the month, and only once in a while. don't judge those who may have nice clothes that are using food stamps. they could have gotten fired from a nice job the week before. and when you go from not worrying about money to fear of losing everything, i am sure you'd want to dress nice and at least show that you have some self respect. that's not to say there aren't those abusing the system, though. but you can't tell by looks.  (Oct 18, 2010 | post #57)

Tulsa County Sheriff's Office: Be Mindful Of Mounted Patrol

a mounted patrol horse is one of the best trained horses you could ever get. i work around shriner mounted patrol horses all the time, and most of them are trusted with handicapped children. yes, even those that are immobile. a police horse has even more rigorous training than those. a mounted officer is above crowd level and can see what is going on around him/her much better than on foot. a fairgoer can stop and sit ans rest at any time, an officer cannot, no matter what his/her physical condition is. a horse can stand and carry a person all day if they have to. just be respectful of horses. yes, they can kick, but i am pretty sure they have been trained not to unless cued to. that's not to say they won't, but a horse has to have the right disposition to be a mounted patrol horse.  (Oct 10, 2010 | post #9)

More Than 50 Children Reunited With Parents At Tulsa Stat...

i had thought the same thing once. then i had my son. my son who would dart away with no thought of danger at all. i could keep a hold of his hand and he would squirm out and take off running. say what you will, but a 4 year old is faster than most adults. i couldn't imagine trying to keep up with 2 kids at once, each running in a different direction. no, a leash is much better than losing a kid. besides, you don't yank the kid around, you don't hang the kid by them; it gives them freedom (they aren't constantly holding your hand and are free to go from one side of you to another without having to switch hands or bug a parent as they are looking at something or talking) while still being secure. so, say what you will, i would rather see a child be on a leash and treated properly while on it, than dragged around by the hand, where they can squirm and slip out and just take off. but, then again, you don't have to see me at the fair, i won't go. too crowded for me.  (Oct 9, 2010 | post #10)

Duncan Man Riding Horse Killed In Collision With Car

like i said up there, i wasn't implying this was the case. i have just seen many cases where motorists are rude. last time i had to ride down a street, and i was on a shoulder, an idiot deliberately blasted his horn behind my horse, then spun out around me. if i weren't on a well trained horse, there's no telling what would have happened. i wish roads in more rural areas were wider, but that will never be the case. i wish the young lady well. from the sounds of it, it was not her fault. and, i am guessing it was not the man's fault either. and again, both sides are in my prayers.  (Aug 24, 2010 | post #8)

Duncan Man Riding Horse Killed In Collision With Car

this is sad. there just isn't enough places to ride safely anymore. always ride an experienced horse if you are by yourself, and always ride as far over in the road as possible facing the direction traffic is coming from. that way, you can see the cars and they can see you. better yet, try to stay on the shoulder or the grass, but that is not nearly possible enough. some motorists don't think they have to share the road. not saying that is the case here, but just saying in general. i pray for the man's family, and for the young man that hit him. it sounds like a horrible accident.  (Aug 24, 2010 | post #1)

Horses Take A Morning Gallop Through Tulsa

while horses don't have their use for most people, i enjoy my barn time. I have a rescued mare and her foal. my mare was untrained, but willing and sweet as can be when we got her. her colt is turning out the same way. no, we don't depend on horses for transportation or heavy work anymore, but we also don't need dogs to do work nor do we need cats to catch mice. we don't need birds to pollinate flowers and trees, we can make a machine to do it. there is a purpose for a horse. ask any handicapped child how they feel on a Shriner horse. ask anyone who likes to trail ride through a quiet forest and watch nature from horseback. lol, ask any little girl, they'll tell you. i am glad these horses made it back safely. it is hard to work with a spooked horse, they just don't think like humans. the bucket of rocks comment earlier... that would work on my horse, lol, she like her bucket of feed.  (Jul 28, 2010 | post #60)
