Cat engine 3126

I would make sure the plastic line going from the oil pressure sending unit (located on driver side of engine behind the fuel filter housing) to the dash gauge has no leaks. The oil pressure is controlled by two things. There is a removable plunger, spring & seal assembly located inside your oil pump. This plunger system is what keeps the oil pressure up to 35 psi. There are also bypass "relief" valves located inside your oil filter housing. When the filter gets plugged, the bypass valves open to let unfiltered oil flow through the engine. If this happens, the oil pressure will fluctate just like you described...35 psi while driving and a BIG drop-off at an idle. When was the oil filter last replaced?  (Apr 28, 2014 | post #707)

Any power at the cam sensor plug? Pull the middle valve cover, turn the key on & check one of the injectors for power. If you have no power at the injectors, or cam sensor, then the ECM is not receiving the "key-on" power signal from your ignition keyswitch. It's also possible that the ECM isn't getting the "constant-on " power supply from the batteries. Check inside the battery box for "inline fuses" on the ECM power wires. Some trucks have these fuses & connectors mounted to the outside firewall, as well.  (Apr 22, 2014 | post #69)

Engine block swap

I'm referring to "pinning " the flywheel in place. Whenever a head is replaced, when you want to "time" an engine, or do a valve adjustment the engine HAS to be pinned. On the passenger side of the engine at the back, there will be "access holes" and a cover plate on the front of the engine bell housing. This is where you "pin" the flywheel for timing purposes.  (Apr 20, 2014 | post #5)

3406 b it will run but wont start

Sounds like your fuel pressure regulator has failed. It's easy to replace, it screws into the bottom of your fuel filter housing, located on the driver side of the engine. It has a 1-inch bolt head on it. Remove & replace :-)  (Apr 17, 2014 | post #9)

ECM Power Programming

If you have a "sick" Cat or Cummins, bring it to me! I offer full-service tune-ups, run the overhead & diagnose ANY problem that you're having. I can upgrade the horsepower, increase the torque & give you the smoothest running engine ever :-) If you work on it yourself, but need advice...post your questions on this site & I will answer them. I also service DPF systems & can eliminate them. Message me here for contact info. Thanks!  (Apr 14, 2014 | post #1)

Codes 15, 18, and 39 are faults for the injection actuation pressure system. These codes indicate the high pressure injection system is malfunctioning. This will keep the engine from running. The most likely cause is a faulty heui pump, control valve on the heui pump, faulty injection pressure sensor, or an injector leaking high pressure oil. Codes 71, 72, 73, 74 are fault codes for all off the injectors. This normally means the injector driver in the ecm has failed. This would mean the engine ecm will need to be replaced. You will need to have the truck connected to the Cat ET service tool in order to resolve these issues, I'm sorry to say :-(  (Apr 14, 2014 | post #704)

Engine Compression

A better test would be to remove the air intake hose from the turbo, then crank it to see if your exhaust pressure increases. If the air filter is dirty & plugged, or there is an obstruction in the air pickup tubes, this test will expose it. What engine do you have in that machine?  (Apr 14, 2014 | post #2)

Engine block swap

Sounds like a timing or IAP issue. Was the engine complete, or just a block that you installed your head on? If so, did you have the engine "pinned" with the number 1 cylinder at the top?  (Apr 14, 2014 | post #2)

Have you measured the diameter of the crank yet? Is the connecting rod you're using a "new" one or the original? Measure the surfaces to ensure correct tolerance. If the crank is too worn, or the connecting rod is worn where it contacts the bearings, the bearing won't stay in place and it "spins" itself.  (Apr 9, 2014 | post #701)

cat c15 motor - coolant circulation problem

Flash code 92 indicates that the Intake Valve Actuator on cylinder #1 or #2 is not working properly. The voltage readings could be too high, too low, or the Actuator has stopped working. These actuators affect the boost pressure & pulling power of your engine. You may notice that the check-engine light will "flash" when you put the engine under a load, like pulling a hill. The truck will have to be connected to the Cat ET program to determine which part has failed, and why.  (Apr 6, 2014 | post #24)

cat 3406e diesel specs

The only o-ring you need to worry about it the one that goes on the metal "spacer" between the block & head. It is located at the front on the driver side of the engine. Be sure the block is clean before you put the metal gasket on it. After you lay the spacer on the block, you then insert the rubber "keepers " inside all of the round holes in the spacer. Now you're ready for the head gasket! Torque the head bolts in 3 stages. 100 ft lbs, 200 ft lbs, then 330 ft lbs. If you need the head bolt tightening sequence, message me with an e-mail address & I'll send it to you.  (Apr 6, 2014 | post #100)

CAT C15 help!!

Not sure what you mean. Are you saying it won't keep pressure inside the radiator? Or is the radiator under-pressure when the engine is running? If you take the radiator cap off & start the engine, does coolant push out of the radiator?  (Mar 24, 2014 | post #126)

c15 acert runs rough

That's the "return fuel" line, connects at the back of the head & goes to the top of the fuel filter housing mounted on the side of the engine. Use an 11/16 wrench to remove it on both ends.  (Mar 24, 2014 | post #26)
