Section 8 Fraud

Of all the people I've know with section 8, NONE have ever voluntarily gone off of it. One girl got it in 2001 after having her first child. In 2004 she was still on it and pregnant and expecting twins! Now in the year 2013 she is still in her HUD townhouse. The only ones that lose it are the ones that get incarcerated. Or move out of state (but they can usually transfer it). I don't know any that got jobs and got off. Oh and guess what tax payers there is NO time limit! You get on section 8 and you can stay on it till you die!  (Feb 6, 2013 | post #317)

Sorry but while I get it and I understand, I'm still irritated. I don't think you're a scammer from what you wrote...but why do you get to get a HUD backed mortgage? That's what you're referring to when you say HUD will be helping you buy a house? Not many know about that aspect. I was shocked when I found out. Basically HUD will pay for your down payment. You can only "buy" a house that is on the HUD list or HUD approved, but once you qualify and pick out your house, HUD sends the owner/sellers bank the 20% down payment and you get to close and "buy" your house. Yes I believe you have to help with the mortgage payments (at a discounted amount of course) but why do you get this? Because you have mental problems? I have gad, PTSD and many others yet I don't get disability and by default Medicaid and HUD housing AND the option to buy a house! I have to work and save up the 20% myself. Then pay the full mortgage. And no offense but I am so tired of women shouting out in pride that they are a single mom! It's not a damn badge of courage! You are not special! If anything I should be the one shouting with pride that I'm a married mother! That I stuck it out and stayed with my husband even though things get bad! It is much rarer to see a married mother nowadays! Single mothers are a dime a dozen constantly reminding everyone of their status like they really did something! Sick to death of it!  (Feb 6, 2013 | post #316)

This is somewhat true. Each state has different limits. Like you stated Massachusetts has a high limit. Maryland does too. For a single woman with no children who does not work you can be allocated $1375 per month. This particular woman pays $0 towards her rent. In fact every single person I have known on HUD in Maryland didn't pay one cent towards rent. They also have the $50 security deposit requirement waived. I have never met anyone who paid 40% of their income on rent with HUD. In fact that seems odd considering for regular people the general rule of thumb is to have your rent or mortgage be no more than 30% of your income...so not sure why HUD would require 40%? Now I will concede that all the HUD recipients I know did not and do not work. (They sell pills and work under the table only for cash) Also I hate when people (not you poster) ask if we have reported all this fraud. Most of us haven't so no one answers back and then the poster gleefully shouts, "see! I hear crickets! Funny how no one reports any of this", meaning that of course we are all lying and none of this is true. It's just right wing nut jobs hating on the poor! No!!!! I have wanted to report 3 specific people for a long time! Each time I go online to do it, my DH gets worried and tells me not to. He is convinced that the HUD fraudsters will find out it was me and retaliate. He also says that HUD won't do a damn thing about it. I know 2 people that have reported fraud concerning 2 diff HUD recipients and they had documents, pictures etc...and nothing was done. These people were livid! HUD recipients have rights and apparently more than you or I!  (Feb 6, 2013 | post #315)

I 100% believe you! These people know exactly how to play the system! I see people get on these forums and they get upset because they are on HUD and welfare, but they "deserve " it. Their kids "deserve " to eat good and live well! What they mean is they deserve Jordan's, iPads, iPhones, late model cars etc... I will scream if I read one more girl say, "I'm bettering myself for me and my children. Yes I have 2-3 kids, but the father ran out on us (or died, tons say the dad(s) died to garner sympathy) and that's not my fault. I pay taxes too so I'm going to take what's offered to me. I need HUD and the whole package so I can go to school (for free with Pell grant on tax payers back. They can not possibly get a loan!) I'm not working some crappy job and putting my kids in day care! I'm a stay at home mom and go to school part time! (Kids are in day care while she's in school with the day care voucher or thru the school)." No f you! You do not deserve crap! You made bad choices and now you think you're too good to work a crappy job! You think you deserve to go to school for free (Pell grant covers low cost community colleges and they get cash back)while the tax payer pays for your board and keep! How dare these people? Meanwhile they get EIC by lying and claiming they do nails and hair out of their homes and get 9k refunds! I know a girl that took her kids to Disney! I am so tired of it!  (Feb 6, 2013 | post #314)

Section 8 Fraud

Again I know this is an older topic, but I had to chime in. I know countless stories of section 8 and welfare fraud. We used to own a rental property. It was a 3bdrm, 2 story townhome in a nice area. Rent in 2004 was $1200ish. Well we had so many section 8 women try to rent it. I knew the reputation of HUD recipients and was terrified they'd destroy the place regardless of the guaranteed rent check from HUD. At least 3 of these women had the balls to show up for the interview WITH their boyfriends and tell me he'd live there too!!! I knew darn well that bf's are not allowed to reside with them! It pissed me off! Some 25 yr old with 3 kids (none by the bf) and a bf that works construction (back then in 2004 you could live ok on that) and free rent! I know a woman that had one child but signed rights over to a couple that adopted him. She has NO rights and no visitation. Yet she gets HUD. Her man is in prison but HUD allocated her $1400 a month rent!!! For 1 woman! This is in the Baltimore area and $1400 can rent a nice place! She got a 2bd, 2bath apt with laminate flooring and washer/dryer/dish washer/disposal etc...the works. She gets $200 a month FS, Medicaid (uses it for free suboxone, and countless free trips to rehab) energy assistance, cash assistance and the Pell grant. She used the $2500 cash she got back from the Pell grant to put down on a new car! She sells her suboxone and Xanax and makes $1200-1500 extra per month selling those pills. She is trying her hardest to get disability. Another girl has 4 kids by 4 diff men. I am not lying. She has a HUD apt as nice as my house. Brand new! She gets the works; FS, Medicaid, cash asst, energy asst, Pell grant (she too is in school...not working) she also claims EIC and got a 9k refund last year. (Said she cut hair for cash at her house to claim income) she has a iPad, MacBook Pro, a desktop, iphone5 and a Samsung galaxy, always getting new clothes, always putting pics up of her new Jordan's for her kids, she has her hair done Monthly and her nails are always done. This is the norm! This is not the few bad apples. MOST are doing this kind of stuff. It's the welfare culture. They want to look rich and wear the best, yet have no portfolio or investments or savings. If they want to defraud the gov why not save it and be smart? I hate liberal idealists that have no clue what is really going on and allow this crap to continue!  (Feb 6, 2013 | post #313)

so sick of welfare moms

There are no jobs where I am. It's bad. After months if trying to find work in my field, I decided to humble myself and get a menial job. Guess what? They won't hire me. I've tried Bed Bath and Beyond (who supposedly hire anyone!) they turned me down because I had moved 3 times in 2 years (all promotions for my DH who is in demand due to a scarce skill set) I have applied in person at Pier One, tanning salons, all fast food places, belk, Macy's, Nordstrom, Victoria secrets, justice, gas stations, several offices and that's just the past month. No one wants me. I am considered attractive, I'm fit, I'm 33 but look younger, I have a great outgoing personality and I have years of customer service skills along with my professional background but nothing. Of course at first I thought I was too good to work at these places, so imagine my shock that they didn't even want me! That I wasn't even good enough to ring up burger orders. Luckily my DH makes a lot of money and I can stay home but I want to work. I want to be engaged and productive, not sit home cleaning my house and playing on Internet forums!  (Feb 5, 2013 | post #141)

Oh dear. You are so obviously a liberal idealist who has no clue. Stop trying so hard to get rid of your white guilt. It's not real. You don't need to feel that way. Black revisionist history is a lie. The big, bad evil whites didn't steal blacks off Africa's coast. The black leaders actually shoved their enslaved ones at the Europeans and Arabs! They wanted money! Besides blacks hate you. They don't look at you and think oh how nice. They hate you. They don't need whitey coming in to save the day and declare racism so evil! The pendulum has swung the complete other way and they hate us and want us to suffer. It's deeply ingrained. They might be civil, nice to you and you might even think a few are your good friends. They're not. You're a deluded liberal living in an ivory tower.  (Feb 5, 2013 | post #138)

Agreed with the above. Sorry but you are not paying taxes. I'm so tired of explaining this to these people. Yes if you work you get taxes withheld from your paychecks, but most likely you get every cent back and MORE under EIC. So no you don't pay taxes. Even if you did, which you don't, why do all of you make this argument. Like your taxes are a savings plan that you have every right to dip back into. I pay a lot of taxes and get very little in return. I am lucky to get 1/10 of what I pay in back, if that. I don't get HUD, Pell grants, FS etc... So tired of single, welfare moms that act like they're proud of what they are. Constantly taking about how they bust their butt etc...maybe some do, but most don't. They make bad decisions and then demand assistance.  (Feb 5, 2013 | post #137)

how much money do welfare mothers get per child

I'm not sure if you're for real or not. You are using foul language interspersed throughout each sentence which usually shows the lack of ability to form a logical argument or defense so you resort to name calling. I'm not trying to put you down. In fact I hope this helps you. You did indeed create the situation that requires you to now seek tax payer funds to get by. (It's not buy in that context, it's by) You need to understand that you can't join in the welfare bashing as you are one yourself. To us there is not really a line. I have met a few women that were widowed and I am ok with them using welfare, in fact I have even helped them personally. But this huge wave of teenaged to 22 yr old girls getting pregnant without a husband or a steady boyfriend/father of the child, without an education, usually with no job skills and they demand services and demand and get the Pell grant and then essentially are paid to attend some low level community college (any funds not used get sent right back to you in cash) all the while refusing to work at all because, "I'm not working some crappy job. I'm bettering myself in school!" To us those crappy jobs are expressly for people like you. I'm so tired of this entitlement mentality. This, "I DESERVE" mentality. No one is too good to work a crappy job. None of us. I have much respect for the men and women working for low wages in bad job environments. And if I ever have to work a job like that again, notice I said again, I will. Thankfully my choices have led me to marry a great man that makes enough for me to stay at home and raise our ONE child. No assistance at all and we pay a lot of taxes. We don't get HUD, my husband had to pay to go to college himself, we don't get giant EIC refunds. Stop using bad language and sounding so low class. I'm sure you're not that bad in real life. Good luck.  (Feb 5, 2013 | post #1140)

Welfare Moms that stay on it for life.

Agreed. I have never been on welfare as in HUD, MA, FS etc...but in 2009 my position was eliminated. I wasn't fired and I didn't quit, they just eliminated my job and 60 others. Of course I filed for unemployment and then went job hunting feverishly! Guess what? I searched for months day and night and could not find an equal position to the one I lost. So I took a job for $7 an hour. I worked hard at a dept store. It was very humbling. After 80 hours during 2 wks I cleared about $325. So when that job stopped (temp seasonal) and I got approved for UE you better believe I took it. I got $405 a week before taxes and could take care of my son. I'd have been an absolute moron to not take it and keep working for $7/hr! I would have jumped at a real job though. $7/hr didn't pay the bills, it didn't pay the gas and car payment to get to work! It didn't touch day care costs! But a job equal to the one I lost it even closer to it I would have died for! But there weren't any. UE is not welfare. My employer paid taxes for that benefit. Of course people are staying on UE. They need to pay the bills and most of us aren't getting back the great jobs we had. Instead of $50k a year we're being offered $15k a year or sometimes nothing. God like I'm really that lazy that I refuse to work for $7 an hour and bust my ass and it won't even keep me afloat. That's stupid.  (Feb 4, 2013 | post #44)

Um are you kidding? We paid $15k in fed taxes alone last year. So yes if the gov (who is made up of flawed human beings-it's not some machine like entity) didn't force me to pay taxes then is have about $21k a year extra and yes I absolutely could help someone live quite nicely with that. In fact I'm very charitable and I often want to help people yet I can't precisely because I'm taxed to death. On top of that 21k coming out (that's not counting SS and Medicare of course) I pay personal property taxes on my friggin cars, pet taxes etc... I don't get people like you. Why are you so certain the gov can do it better? I know I can do it better. But it will never happen. I'm forced to pay huge taxes to be part of this great society that takes from one to give to another...with no say in it at all.  (Feb 4, 2013 | post #43)

JOh come on! How do you know that sob story is true? Every time I get on one of these forums the people on assistance get attacked due to their selfish entitlement mentality, and then lacking a good argument come up with sob stories. Maybe it is true, but I doubt it.  (Feb 4, 2013 | post #82)

Liar! If you have HUD there is NO way you're not getting the Pell grant! You're not using loans! Lmao! But this shows that you're ashamed and feel bad for what you're taking so that's good.  (Feb 4, 2013 | post #81)

This. It's coming. Brian is right. The truth can hurt. The OP seems like a nice person so I hope her Christmas was nice. But no one deserves these huge EIC refunds. I'm so tired of the people that get them claiming they "deserve " that money and its their money and they can't help if the government wants to give it to them and its not welfare. Yes it is. It is wealth redistribution forced on us. Do you honestly think I want you to have the taxes I paid into the system so you can spend it on a lavish Christmas that I myself can't afford precisely because idiots like you get that money? Ugh!!!  (Feb 4, 2013 | post #52)

Gee must be nice. I don't get EIC and pay 9k in fed taxes alone not counting the 7k in state taxes cause NC taxes are very high. I get a measly $1200 back if I'm lucky and that goes for bills, car repairs or dental bills. I spent $400 on my son last Xmas and didn't have any money to buy extended family or my parents a thing. So it's absolute bullsh$t to me that you are a "welfare " dad but you have more money for Xmas then I do making 90k a year.  (Feb 4, 2013 | post #51)
