Great points. I know slavery was a business. And I am also aware of the economic stresses placed upon the colonies by England. However, your statement that "[e]conomics, not a lack of morality on the part of whites, was responsible for the continued existence of slavery" is a load of steaming crap. While yes, there were abolitionists and others who were against slavery, it still doesn't excuse or whitewash the fact that white "christians " persecuted, tarred, feathered, raped, degraded, and murdered countless thousand black men, women, and children. It doesn't excuse the fact the IMmoral whites still wanted to keep blacks enslaved even after slavery was abolished. So sorry. Nice try though. (Monday | post #954)

That's all I was getting at. It's more of a human race thing in general. I know quite a few blacks who have no religious discipline either. However I also know we are not the only ones who lack that discipline. What I really love is when people like to pick one thing out the Bible then ignore all the other laws and principles too. For example, the Bible, in the old and new testament, very clearly condemns a homosexual lifestyle. People will speak with fiery passion about that but they will then go and have multiple lovers and not be married or be drunkards or greedy persons who idolize money and material possessions. The Bible bunches all these things together. 1 Cor 6:9,10. You can't passionately speak about one commandment then ignore all the others. That makes a person a giant hypocrite.
