Mikulina to be lauded for efforts on environment - News

A racist clueless comment if there ever was one! What makes mainland people any different compared to anywhere else? Oh maybe because of events over 100 years ago? That is simply lolo talk. To lump EVERYONE from the mainland together into a bad place is just plain dumb. But it fits those that need to blame someone from 'outside' instead of looking within themselves for realistic 'non-theoretical' solutions to our many problems.  (Nov 1, 2008 | post #6)

Big Isle mayor's race offers stark contrasts - News

Finally the voters won't get a chance to be snookered by an 'Yamashiro' type mayor! Either candidate works for me!!!  (Nov 1, 2008 | post #1)

Superferry report hit with delay - News

Yeah your right, as this post on Coqui frogs portrays: "Workers with the Agriculture Department came the next day and caught the frog" Living here on the BI in the midst of Coqui Frog Heaven we are on our own, zero State AG Department help other than a free token bag of lime. But no legal ability to enter a vacant lot to spray. A State DLNR/BLNR who only sit in meetings and give opinions with no actual action. And a Big Island Invasive Species Committee head who lives in the subdivision with a huge infestation who does not attended a subdivision meetings on the problem! Thank YOU Oahu Centric Democratic State Legislators for your ignorance and incompetence, and for cutting funding last year!!  (Nov 1, 2008 | post #12)

Mikulina to be lauded for efforts on environment - News

A couple of postings from obvious anti-environment sourpusses. Pay them no mind, they are obstructionist anyway. Bravo Jeff, you made a difference under terrible circumstances. Each time someone recycles their drinks instead of throwing their bottles, on the `aina as the real lazy lolo's do - you have won.  (Oct 31, 2008 | post #3)

Inouye stands behind convicted senator - News

correction it was not the Ohio Sec of State it was Helen Jones-Kelly, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, confirmed today that she OK’d the check on Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher following the Oct. 15 presidential debate.  (Oct 30, 2008 | post #65)

Inouye stands behind convicted senator - News

The American Public has gone seedy. When the Public votes for a liar and a convicted thief over anyone else you know we are as a people immoral. But that is "being judgmental" and something Democrats openly (and the GOP privately) never consider, as they all believe "the ends justify the means." Immorality is the chief reason why the Democratic head of Ohio's Sec of State both donated to the limit ($2,500) to Barack's campaign while simultaneously investigating Joe the Plumber, using state computers and state paid employees, and publicly saw nothing wrong with that. That few are publicly ashamed of the actions of their corrupt politicians speaks volumes about those that voted them in.  (Oct 30, 2008 | post #64)

Inouye stands behind convicted senator - News

Sad commentary for our once great nation when the voters will send back to Congress the very crooks they complain about. Our nation is a schizophrenic lot of lazy loonies filled with either over-the-top greedy GOP or 'gimme' Socialist Democrats. It is no wonder voter approval polls for this Congress hang around 15%. A pox on each and every one of them.  (Oct 28, 2008 | post #35)

Inouye stands behind convicted senator - News

What ever happened to personal morality among members of Congress? America is rotting since it seems no one cares - as long as they get theirs. Reminds me of a Tee shirt I have from Pig Performance Products that says: "We cheat the other guy and pass the savings on to you." How can we evolve as citizens when we put up with the Democrats and GOP ripping us commoners off?  (Oct 28, 2008 | post #19)

Lingle's attack on Obama is unfair and downright silly - ...

Today on my way to lunch in Pahoa I walked pass a homeless guy with a homemade sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." Once inside a restaurant (that shall remain nameless) my server had on a "Obama 08" pin, again I laughed to myself as she had given away her political preference -- just imagine the coincidence. When the bill came I decided to prove a point about Obama's "spreading the wealth around" comment. So I decided not to tip the server. I explained to her that I was exploring Obama's "redistributi on of wealth" concept that he was bold enough to tell Joe the Plumber to his face. I told her I was going to give her tip to the homeless guy outside the window. She stood there in disbelief. Then she angrily whirled and stormed from sight. I paid the bill, went outside, gave the homeless guy $5 and asked him to thank the server inside, as I told him "He could obviously use the money more." The homeless guy was grateful, but I noticed he did not go into thank the lady for her 'donation'. I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application. Needless to say my cajones are pretty large but hey, I have ridden motorcycles for 45 years too. And I know I will have to explain myself as I do live in a small town. I just wanted to see how well Obama's plan works when stripped of its Democratic scholarly rhetoric and Democratic media spin. I too am just a "Joe the plumber" type guy. I for one learned it worked as well as I at least thought it would - which is to say not at all. PS I went back into the restaurant hunted down my waitress, and gave her the tip after all (unlike Obama I am fair). But needless to say she vocally neither appreciated my "Obama logic" nor the delayed tip. I hope she cools off.  (Oct 26, 2008 | post #238)

Ads by unions urge voters to say 'no' - News

The sole hope of reforming the political/economic mess we have here emanates straight from a con-con. But that being said, the deck has been stacked against con-con by the Old Guard Democrats and the Unions. They are going to hold on to power no matter what it takes. And their utter lack of efficiency in doing even the simplest tasks will result in us staying a backward State under their tight grip. The Old Guard would have us believe they earned their 36% pay increase, HA!  (Oct 12, 2008 | post #20)

Big Isle debates genetic crop bill - News

It seems prudent to many of us on the BI to have 1 island where there is no GMO engineering. Does anyone remember the unintended consequences with the corn experiments on the mainland? GMO corn, not intended for human consumption, got into the food chain. Non-GMO farmers got sued by Monsanto when their pollen drifted over. I'm a degreed mechanical engineer who's favorite saying was "You don't know what you don't know". Many of my intelligent colleagues had 'blinders on', they were so focused on the task at hand that they made strategic blunders. Let 'em experiment at a university designed for it - on another island. I'm not about to sell my soul for a buck.  (Oct 9, 2008 | post #5)

Student algebra skills often fail to add up

"Hawaii educators agreed with the study that found thousands of children are unprepared for algebra or geometry classes." So this is like the kid that murders his parents then throws themselves on the mercy of the court as they are now an orphan? With the 'command and control' DOE ruining everything educationally related, no wonder our kieki are unprepared for the real world. With that kind of 'logic' as long as the kids feel good about not knowing algebra like wacos201 that is fine. Huh? I guess as long as your of an ideal career is to pick papayas the rest of your life for $8 hr thats fine.  (Sep 24, 2008 | post #35)

Kenoi, beating rumors, advances

If we were run efficiently our population would be a billion (exaggeration) and it would NOT have that '1930's charm.' But hey Hawaii IS part of a democratic republic, everyone has a duty to be civic minded - without a gun barrel point at their head. I'll take the inefficiencies ANY DAY if my only option is 'being like the mainland'. UGH!!!  (Sep 21, 2008 | post #13)

Kenoi, beating rumors, advances

Yep the charges came out of the IMHO right wing wacko Hawaii Free Press (distinguishing it from the left wing wacko papers here). The editor Andrew Walden is, in my opinion, an 'in-your-face-I'm- never-wrong' guy who just despises Billy & Bob Jacobson, and pretty much every Democrat. He printed about 90% of the articles about the pair linking them to about every sin imaginable - excepting child molestation. The GOP will never get any traction in this State with that negative rag as it's semi-official mouthpiece. Too bad as the corrupt Democrats won't change their ways, and hence the citizens continue to suffer with their inept governing.  (Sep 21, 2008 | post #11)

Kenoi, beating rumors, advances

Another round of mud slinging just ended with charges and counter-charges just a flying 'round here. It is amazing to me the utterly nastiness of them. Have these people NO sense of personal morals? Oh wait - thats right when you believe in situational ethics you can say ANYTHING!  (Sep 21, 2008 | post #7)
