I have noticed that many "Big Oil" corporations are using the war in the Middle East and the unrest in most of the countries there as an excuse to raise gas prices to outrageous prices, causing a huge burden up to and including job loss on the working poor all the while selfishly reaping in HUGE profits and paying their executives insane amounts of money. The amount of just one of their bonus checks could support a poor family for years. ( How far could you stretch $150,000? I could make that last quite awhile.) But here is what I found out recently: Most of the oil that America imports doesn't even come from any of these war torn, Middle Eastern countries. Of the top 5 countries that we import oil from, only 1 is from one of these countries, and that would be #3 Saudi Arabia. #1 country we receive the most oil from is Canada and #2 is Mexico ( believe it or not) I was shocked to read about this ( also this was reported on CNN). So tell me why Big Oil is being allowed to gouge the heck out of us, blaming the unrest in the middle East as the cause, when most of our oil comes from countries that have nothing to do with whats going on over there? This is an outrage against the American people and the government needs to put a stop to it as when the working poor can no longer afford to get to work, how is this going to affect the big picture of our economy and unemployment problems? How many American families that are already under terrible financial stress will be forced into complete poverty and ruin just so these oil companies can continue to be so selfish and greedy? It's hard to believe that one thing like the price of gas could cause so many peoples lives to be destroyed, but it can especially since the government plans on doing most of its budget cuts to programs directed at helping the disabled and working poor to survive in our bad economy as it is. Once again, the poor suffer more, while the rich get richer and are allowed to get away with it. (Apr 19, 2011 | post #1)
Well put Sir. And we need to stop targeting just one race of people. Illegal is illegal, it should not matter if you are a Mexican or a Somalian. The difference is, if you are from an Islamic country, our government gives you a "free pass" so to say to come here basically by passing the normal process that a Mexican would have to go through to come here legally. I don't understand why this is, when Muslim immigrants have murdered many more American citizens while living on our soil then the Mexican immigrants have. People of all races murder, there are drug cartels, Mafia, or gang members in every society, but the Muslim society seems to be the only group of people who use death as a punishment for even the smallest of infraction. A woman doesn't cover up or is raped, she has brought dishonor to Islam and is killed, a person chooses to convert from Islam to another religion, they should be killed, a person speaks an opinion or draws a picture of all mighty Mohammad, they should be killed. Look at that Muslim woman who is entering the beauty pageant, she is receiving thousands of death threats from Muslims ( many American ones)for not being a good Muslim woman just because she is proud of her beauty and is taking advantage of the freedoms that being an American citizen allow her. The Muslim answer to almost everything seems to be to threaten, intimidate or flat out kill people over almost anything. No other culture of people that immigrate here (legally or illegally)do these things, nor do they cause so many problems by refusing to take jobs because they conflict with their religious practices or abuse our constitutional freedom of religion every chance they can. Many will not even associate with their neighboring non Muslim communities much less contribute to them. Bottom line should be if you refuse to contribute to America by working hard, helping your neighbors and communities, following our laws, and showing respect to our country for giving you these opportunities that you may not have received in your own countries instead of taking advantage of our constitution or welfare system, then you need to go. (Apr 19, 2011 | post #4702)
You have my vote. Just why the hell are we wasting all this money over there trying to solve the problems of these Islamic countries, building them schools, taking care of their food and housing needs when so many Americans are losing their homes and can't feed their families right now. We are there when they clearly do not appreciate the help and have shown over and over that they don't want us there. Also why is our government actually importing thousands these Muslims every month from these countries when it is their own fault that their countries are war zones because of their religious fanaticism? We can't afford to feed our own people right now, and the government wants to cut all these programs aimed at the working poor, but we can afford to bring these people and their anti-American rhetoric and sick religious practices into our neighborhoods while paying for their living expenses? Remember these same people we have opened our borders to danced in the streets when all of those innocent people were murdered in the name of their "religion " on 9/11, yet we continue to bring them here and give them everything for free while American families are losing everything they own and going hungry! And to top it off, our government continues to cater to them to the point of butt kissing almost because they keep taking advantage of our constitutional right to freedom of religion. "I wont work that job because they wont let me dress how I like or have extra prayer breaks that the other workers don't get" or "I'm going to sue you for forcing me to follow the same rules as the other employees because it gets in the way or my religious beliefs." then there's the " But officer, I didn't know it was illegal here to have sex with a 12 year old or use corporal punishment on my wife because it was her own fault that she disobeyed. In my country this is how things are done so how would I know it was wrong here?" The Mexicans do not cause nearly the amount of problems that these Muslims do ( who declared war on us? Wasn't the Mexicans)But we are trying so hard to get them out of our country while rolling out the red carpet to our enemies? People that refer to us as "infidels " sue our FBI for "watching " their communities when people in these communities keep trying to bomb us, and refuse to conform to our society, screaming freedom of religion as their excuse for everything from not accepting work to child molestation. These are the people we need to get out of our country, at least the Mexicans try to conform. (Apr 19, 2011 | post #402)
I feel for you and your family, and unfortunately it's not just the drunks that make our roads a death trap. Many American citizens risk OUR lives daily by flapping on their cell phones while driving. An experiment done ( I believe it was at the University of MN)clearly showed that a person yacking away on their phone drove worse then people who were legally drunk, yet in many places, these yappers are still not being kept from being a hazard to the rest of us by outlawing talking on your phone while driving. Another road hazard would be the many immigrants that may be legal citizens here, but don't bother to even learn our language because we cater to them by providing everything ( including driving teats) in their language or providing free interpreters. So they are allowed onto our roads without speaking a lick of English. How do they read the road signs? Now I know many signs are just symbols that anyone could interpret, but our most important signs that drivers NEED to be able to be aware of are written in English. These including school zone signs and times they are in effect, many construction warning signs, and traffic congestion warnings or accident warnings. I don't understand why even though both the cell phone yappers and people that can't read our signs have both been proven to being contributing factors in so many accidents and fatalities, yet we don't outlaw these things like we have done with drunk driving. Thanks, I'm glad to see that others feel this is not right either. (Apr 12, 2011 | post #4)
Axel, I am not referring to you personally, obviously you did all the things a person should do if they want to come here and try to make a better life for themselves and there are many like you who chose to come here "the hard way" instead of breaking the law. I feel that it is people like you that do not choose the easy way out and work very hard who may be Americas only hope. Now I do watch a lot of CNN, and many other news shows, I read many news based websites as well because I want to be informed as to what is going on in the world and in my community because there may be things I may want to know about that may affect me or those that I care about. I see nothing wrong with wanting to be informed. And yes, people over 55 would be affected if the government doesn't raise the debt ceiling as medicaid payments would stop right along with unemployment benefits and a delay in pay for our service men and women who have families back home here with enough worries on their minds. Maybe i'm a bad person for not having sympathy for the rich, and it is true that many rich people worked hard so they could lead a pampered lifestyle, but would it really hurt the rich that much if they had to cut back to only one trip to Aspen instead of 2 a year or to eat a steak instead of caviar and lobster for a meal or two? I am not a selfish person, so if I was rich, I would not even think twice about giving a little more if it would help a much less fortunate family to have a hot meal on their table or a warm place to live especially if it would hardly affect my lifestyle and come nowhere near putting me in any danger of going hungry. I feel there is something wrong with the government putting so much burden on the most vulnerable and suffering people of our society by cutting such programs as WIC which is necessary for some poor children to receive proper meals. Medicaid, when many disabled and elderly people need this help just to get the medicine or care they need to live. Energy Assistance, many poor people will freeze in the cold northern winters as they don't make enough to pay their heating costs without it and how would they store what food they do have without electricity in their homes. I could go on and on listing all the programs that they want cut, and while the government needs to cut, that is obvious, why does it look like they want to make most of the cuts in areas that will force the worse off of our people into life and death struggles? ( and i'm not referring to deadbeats that sit on welfare spitting out babies or drinking and drugging but the people that are unable to work or the "working poor" as you put it) The government would save billions if they would simply say NO to paying costs for illegals and saying NO to continuing to waste so much money playing hero in the middle east when Americans need so much help here. Don't take away the only hope many hardworking poor and suffering elderly and disabled people have when many of them can barely survive as it is just to fund this crap overseas and continue to support illegals. (Apr 12, 2011 | post #4091)
When I saw this story on CNN I was furious. Now I don't come to Topix to fight or be rude ( unless someone is rude to me)I am here to vent my opinions and see what others feel on subjects that interest me, but this really set me off. This man is going to sue because he was made to follow the strict code of prison inmate appearance. This rule of keeping your hair including facial hair a specific way is for a reason and just because he is Muslim, he feels he should be exempt from this rule when everyone else must follow it? Now some Native American men also do not cut their head hair for religious reasons but do you think that if they are incarcerated that they wont have to if it is a part of the appearance code in that prison? This is right up there with the Muslim woman that sued Abacrombi & Fitch for not hiring her because she said she would not change her style of dress to conform to their company dress code if offered a job. Again, I am not trying to be rude, but I am really starting to believe that Muslims honestly believe that no matter where in the world they go, that area must conform to them and their beliefs. Of course this man used the same excuse I am hearing Muslims give for everything, Freedom of Religion and I feel that Muslims in America are really starting to take advantage of of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Why do I keep reading about Muslims feeling they deserve special treatment because of their religion or they don't have to do this or that when everyone else does because of their Freedom of religion rights? This man committed a crime and is in prison because he chose to break a law and i'm sorry, but once you are in prison, you have forfeited many of your rights that law abiding citizens have and one of those rights is to wear your hair the way you please. I don't care what a persons religion is as that is a private thing, but nobodies religion should ever be allowed to exempt them from following the laws and rules of the society that they have chosen to immigrate to. And just because in many Islamic countries the law and their religion are one in the same, that is not the case in many other countries and they really need to stop expecting the rest of the world to conform to them especially if they have chosen to live in a country that is not ruled by Islamic beliefs. (Apr 12, 2011 | post #1)
Thank you Axel, now that does make sense. I guess after hearing on CNN that if our government doesn't raise the debt ceiling so many Americans that are elderly, disabled, or simply have tried everything they can but can't find enough work to support their families will simply be "out on the street" so to say, I am very angry with our government and all the spending it is doing on everyone else when we are so close to economic collapse. I am angry that American based businesses are being allowed to outsource so many of our badly needed jobs while still getting the perks of being based here, they should be penalized in some way for taking that food out of American families mouths. I am fed up with our government spending and spending on "wars" in other countries and inviting everybody and their momma from these countries into ours for us to support when so many people here are jobless and hungry. I love What America use to stand for, a place where people from many different cultures could have the chance to prosper and build together. But now it seems to have become a haven for the social rejects from every other country to just come on in and leech. It seems as if you were NOT born here, you have more rights then the people that were. It sounds so selfish when I say it, but maybe in order to rebuild from the disaster America has now gotten herself into, we should shut our borders to any more immigrants unless they are willing to pitch in and contribute while coming here legally, boot out anyone that can not prove they are here legally and are in the process of working or getting an education so they can work, maybe even go so far as China has done in limiting the help people can get if they have more then a specific amount of children so they can't afford to just sit around on welfare, and keep our giving to other countries to a minimum until we, as a country, can take care of ourselves again. It's just all so infuriating. (Apr 12, 2011 | post #4080)
As they very well should have. America is almost completely destroyed financially right now and can not afford to pay for people that would not even be here if someone had not broken the law. It is bad enough that our current government keeps opening the doors to all of these Islamic people because they have destroyed their own countries and turned them into war zones. Who is paying for all of these people's homes, food, and yes, even cell phones? American taxpayers. And right now, with so many American families hurting, jobless, and going hungry it is a travesty that people that are not Americans are receiving all these free-bees and even being given help through programs that these American families can't even qualify for. Why should we "hand out" education and pay for it for people that shouldn't have even been here when so many American kids cant afford an education? My opinion is it is time that America wakes the hell up and begins to take care of her own citizens first, then worry about extending help to everyone else. Now dont get me wrong, I think it is a good thing to send some troops and supplies etc. to help others when horrible disasters hit, but why the hell are we continuing to waste so much money and troops over in theses Islamic countries to try to help when they have made it clear they don't want us there and brought on the "disaster " there themselves? That money should be spent here at home helping suffering American families and our troops should be here protecting us from those same radical, religious nuts that we are over there trying to help. Our people are quite under educated when compared to other nations and our people need that education badly too. The American government is looking at having to resort to raising our "debt ceiling" just so the disabled, the elderly, and the people who cant find any work won't be living on the streets and yet the government continues to pour desperately needed money into supporting and educating illegals? The American government needs to start taking care of the American people before our entire country simply collapses and turns into another third world country! (Apr 12, 2011 | post #175)
So sad, but so true. I can't grasp the concept of entire countries destroying themselves over any religious belief. Then immigrating to other countries that have evolved over the centuries and creating complete havoc because these countries that they immigrate to do not see eye to eye with the Muslim belief that their religion is all powerful and all that matters in life. If this was the case, and their religion was such a good thing for the people that practice it, there would not be so much bloodshed in EVERY Islamic country over small infractions such as leaving the house without a mans permission or being the victim of a rape. I mean if I was a Christian, it still would make no since to me to KILL a person for saying something controversial about Jesus and 99.9999% of Christians, Jewish, Hindus or people of any other religion would agree that just speaking an opinion or drawing a picture of a religious figure is not a crime worthy of death, only Muslims seem to feel this way. Unfortunately the Muslim faith has proven itself to be very destructive ( just look at any Muslim based country to prove this)and some Muslims have chosen to use these body coverings as a way to conceal bombs with the intent to kill others. It is not the fault of the French people ( or any other country for that matter) that Muslims have chosen to do this. They have the right to protect their citizens and the safety of innocent people far outweighs some cultural or religious practice. Also these Muslims chose to immigrate to that country and it is not the responsibility of the French people to conform to Muslim ways. If the veil is seen by the majority of the French people as offensive to women, then it is their right as a collective people to not have to see it. Once again, these Muslims chose to come to France and the culture of the French people should come first. That is the price you pay to move to any country, it is your responsibility to conform to the culture there, you do not have to believe what they do, or pray to whomever they pray to, but you do have to fit in and contribute. Unfortunately the Muslim people seem to believe that no matter what country they immigrate to, they should be exempt from any laws if it it conflicts with Islam and that they deserve special treatment. Thats like as an American, I go to France and expect the French to stop having topless beaches because where I am from, this would be considered public indecency, I would need to conform to the fact that In French culture topless beaches are not seen the same way as they would be in America, topless beaches are not hurting anyone, and to the French people, they are no big deal so who am I to come to their country and expect them to change because I don't like it? Muslims need to start to realize that there are other people in the world, with other cultural and religious beliefs, and they can't continue to expect everyone else to change for them. (Apr 12, 2011 | post #20)
I do still want to know though, why is our government trying to hard to kick the Mexicans out while at the same time rolling out the red carpet for every Muslim that wants to come here? I have worked with many Mexican people who are here legally, and I have not met one that would chose welfare over even a low paying "crap" job. They have been very happy to be here and have the chance to better life for their families and contribute plenty to the surrounding communities that they move into. They have all had this Pride about them where accepting hand outs brings shame to them, and though they form their own small communities and worship and celebrate their culture in these communities, they also do their best to fit in and work together with the surrounding communities. I also lived in a Muslim community and saw none of these things. They chose to alienate themselves from the surrounding communities and refused to try to contribute. The were very selfish and most did not work, but sat around in the hallways and stairwells smoking weed and drinking. ( I always thought those things were against their religious beliefs). The police were there constantly due to the many domestic violence instances that went on. And they were terribly rude to the few people that lived there who were not Muslim. I don't hear about the Mexicans suing companies for expecting them to comply with the dress and behavior codes, nor do I hear about them constantly bad mouthing America or using our constitutional freedom of religion as an excuse for every thing that they don't like here. Also it is not the Mexicans that have openly declared war on "The western world" and have over and over attempted to kill thousands of innocent people around the world just because they are not Mexican. Lastly it was not the people of Mexico that danced in the streets and celebrated the murder of many American innocents on 9/11, but it was average Muslim citizens who did all this dancing and celebrating, not just the ones who belonged to radical terrorist organizations. Yet we here in America continue to try to "get rid" of the Mexicans, while inviting the same people who celebrated the deaths of our people openly into our very backyards. I really don't understand this. (Apr 12, 2011 | post #4075)
Well now i'm confused. I keep reading about all these illegal immigrants and this "Amnesty bill". So that must mean pretty much what I was saying, that they are seeking forgiveness for the crime of being here illegally and therefor just having citizenship handed to them with no consequences for the fact that they broke the law? But you are very right that I was wrong about Asylum being the term for people who come here to be protected. I think the point I was trying to make was that Asylum was now being taken advantage of and being turned into Amnesty. Thank you for being so polite in correcting me, it makes debating different opinions more of a learning experience instead of a big name-calling romper room. lol (Apr 12, 2011 | post #4073)
Compassion? That was what Amnesty was suppose to be. A way for people from other countries that are in dire danger through no fault of their own to be given a safe place to live. ( This did not include people from say, some of these Islamic countries who's very laws, and way of life has made their entire countries dangerous places to live as that was brought on by the entire society as a whole.) Now Amnesty has been turned into a way for any person from another country to by-pass the legal immigration process, cry for Amnesty, and get everything handed to them while the American taxpayers foot the bill. I have no compassion for the burglar that got caught breaking into a home and as a result of their choice to do so, now must serve jail time. But you are going to ask me to have compassion for the person that "breaks into" my country, then reaps the rewards of our welfare system while doing nothing to contribute? Both people above are knowingly breaking the law plain and simple. When you knowingly break the law, you give up the option for people to be compassionate toward you. (Apr 12, 2011 | post #4066)
Ok , I have to agree that it is sad that these children have to suffer the fear that a parent may be deported. But the bottom line here is still the same, these people broke the law in coming here illegally instead of coming here the right way. They are lawbreakers and deserve no more special treatment then any other person who has broken the law. They should have thought about the consequences that coming here illegally would put on their poor children. The blame can fall to nobody but the parents. BUT the reason they never considered the consequences is because here in America, there simply are none, and they know this. As a matter of fact, the powers that be in America seem to be falling all over themselves to "reward" these illegal people by letting them by-pass the people that are struggling to get into this country the legal way. I feel that if you break the law by being here illegally, then you should have to suffer a punishment ( like anyone else that breaks the law ) serve jail time, THEN be deported. If the children have any legal relatives here, then of course they should be able to stay until their parents obtain the proper documents to show they want to be here legally. It may be harsh, but once again, the parents would have brought it on themselves and are the only ones to blame. (Apr 12, 2011 | post #148)
Would be nice to give them a sour dose of their own medicine. However here in America. Muslims scream inequality and religious persecution even when caught committing a crime, not to mention should they have to follow a dress code or any other company policy they don't like in order to get a job instead of sitting back and collecting that good old American welfare check. Heaven forbid we were to treat them with all of the "tolerance " that they treat us with. (Nov 30, 2010 | post #13)
