I'm going to provide a link to the Constitution of the United States. http://www.usconst itution.net/const. html Try reading it. This is a page associated with the site that you might want to read concerning the Checks and Balances associated with the Constitution. http://www.usconst itution.net/constt op_cnb.html There is a concept called judicial review which give the judicial branch the power to review all laws no matter who makes them. Are you unaware that gays and lesbians serve in the military already? Things seem to be working just fine without separate but equal. What would change? (Sep 11, 2010 | post #94)
You would be wrong. Although that judge is not the final word, it is his decision to make. That is the way our government is set up, don't like it, change the Constitution. (Sep 11, 2010 | post #93)
But not for the same reasons a most, I believe in universal health care. I don't see that the president's policy will provide the results anticipated. People like to disparage government run health care. People need to remember what for profit health care is about (its not about good health care, profit is the operative term). Judges are also checks on both the legislative and administrative branches. Enforcing law is only one of their jobs, they also pass judgment on the constitutionally of laws. This is what has happened here, a judge has determined that DADT is an unconstitutional law. (Sep 11, 2010 | post #87)
Actually, I'm in favor of decriminalizing all drugs. The drug war is a complete failure. Treat drugs the way you treat alcohol, make them a public health issue. (Sep 11, 2010 | post #29)
I have examined the evidence and have come to the conclusion that he is eligible to be the POTUS, there was no blind faith involved. Only two things are required to be eligible: 1) He meets the Constitutional requirements; e.g. he is a natural born citizen, he is at least 35 YO, and he lived in the USA for at least 14 years. Nobody has provide credible evidence that he does not meet all of them the criteria. Please don't try to provide evidence contrary, I've seen it all before and it is all bogus. 2) enough people voted for him. QED (Aug 21, 2010 | post #368)
And you said all of this with a straight face. Kudos on your self control. What, you meant all of this? (Aug 21, 2010 | post #547)
For some of us who do care, we are comforted that he is qualified to be President. (Aug 21, 2010 | post #366)
From http://en.wikipedi a.org/wiki/United_ States_nationality _law Through birth abroad to one United States citizen A person born on or after November 14, 1986, is a U.S. citizen if all of the following are true: 1. One of the person's parents was a U.S. citizen when the person in question was born 2. The citizen parent lived at least five years in the United States before the child's birth 3. A minimum of two of these five years in the United States were after the citizen parent's 14th birthday. INA 301(g) makes additional provisions to satisfy the physical-presence requirements for periods citizens spent abroad in honorable service in the Armed Forces of the United States, or periods of employment with the United States Government or with an international organization. Additionally citizens who spent time living abroad as the dependent unmarried son or daughter and a member of the household of a person in any of the previously mentioned organizations can also be counted. A person's record of birth abroad, if registered with a U.S. consulate or embassy, is proof of citizenship. Such a person may also apply for a passport or a Certificate of Citizenship to have a record of citizenship. Such documentation is often useful to prove citizenship in lieu of the availability of an American birth certificate. Different rules apply for persons born abroad to one U.S. citizen before November 14, 1986. United States law on this subject changed multiple times throughout the twentieth century, and the law is applicable as it existed at the time of the individual's birth. For persons born between December 24, 1952 and November 14, 1986, a person is a U.S. citizen if all of the following are true : 1. One of the person's parents was a U.S. citizen when the person in question was born 2. The citizen parent lived at least ten years in the United States before the child's birth; 3. A minimum of 5 of these 10 years in the United States were after the citizen parent's 14th birthday. So, if he had been born out of the country, There would be no question that he is an American Citizen. I believe that if you were to dig deeper, you would find that it only take one parent to grant citizenship to newborn. (Aug 21, 2010 | post #146461)
So we should let Christians put up Christmas displays even though they are killing Americans every year. I see your point Point of fact, most criminals in the US are Christians and they obviously represent all Christians. (Aug 14, 2010 | post #70)
I have a suggestion (I'm not snarking here) try to come up with 5 charitable reasons why they would want to build there. It may be possible there are nefarious reasons on their part, but I think it unlikely. I think it is more probable that: They see this building as a good thing. They are pushing back against the A**holes that are in their faces about it (which is a fairly human response). They don't see it as a slap in the faces of True Americans(TM.) They are Americans too. (Aug 14, 2010 | post #66)
It's just my conclusion that your word salad contained little factual information or critical thinking. My response was fairly succinct and to the point, not much else was needed. Would it help to say that I think you are a loon? There, now I have insulted you, at least you are familiar with that response. (Aug 14, 2010 | post #139)
Lots of words, little reality or critical thinking. (Aug 14, 2010 | post #133)
