Homer Township, Homer Glen unite for celebration

Buck Owens - My son mentioned something similar as we were sitting around and we both live in Homer Glen.I attend a lot of festivals in towns that I don't live in. In fact, I attended a wine festival in Michigan and there were some downtrodden people there among some really ritzy folks and everyone in between, so festivals attract all kinds of people in different socioeconomic ranges.  (Jun 29, 2011 | post #2)

Millie's Ice Cream

I finally visited the Cornerstone Cafe with my grandkids this past week. Unknowingly, I ordered their best seller, the BLT. Although I also questioned whether the bacon was grilled or microwaved, which turns out it was grilled (it was so crisp it really fell apart and I think that's why people are questioning it). I ordered it on the whole grain roll and it was delicious.  (Jun 25, 2010 | post #10)

We're wondering about the "Coming Soon" (or whatever it says) sign that is now in the window.  (May 16, 2010 | post #2)

Civil War brought to life in Orland Park

Some of these articles are written after the fact but I still post them since it is something that happened in the area. I do not remember seeing any kind of article mentioning when this was going to occur, just this one describing the event.  (May 14, 2009 | post #2)

Need to read this one.

I tried to get this photo removed (and at least one other one) to no avail.  (Mar 30, 2009 | post #2)

Hooters in Oak Lawn

I ate there for the first time recently and will never go back. We had a good waitress - but to me the food is just a big greasy fry fest and I wasn't happy with the - IMO - limited selection. My displeasure might be because I am not a wings fan, but I finally tried Hooters after all these years and won't be back.  (Mar 17, 2009 | post #6)

Pediatrician not guilty on Medicare fraud

Also, please note everyone, I am not a reporter. All I do here is try to post news topics relevant to Oak Lawn. I try to keep unrelated articles out as there are many stories listed about shootings that happened elsewhere and get posted here because Advocate Christ Hospital is mentioned in the article. Also, I do not post every article that appears here. Some are automatically posted by Topix. I do try to keep things relevant and local. I am called an "editor" but am not the kind of paid news editor you would think of. I volunteered to edit the Oak Lawn page and the Orland Park page. I do not check sources or verify articles - this is not my job. I do try to be fair and in this case it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. I was trying to help and it was not perceived that way. I am sorry about that.  (Mar 17, 2009 | post #10)

Pediatrician not guilty on Medicare fraud

Linda, I do not own this news site, I am just a non-paid editor. I did not post the original story, either. Someone else brought it up on the boards or it was an automated post. I do not control these boards - I do not have that power. In fact, I only posted the story of you being found not guilty as a favor to you, since I know you. In my opinion, that post showed that you should not have been charged to begin with. I can remove the article that said you were found not guilty and will do so since you feel it was inaccurate. Again, I only posted it as a favor to you as you were getting reamed by people on these boards.  (Mar 17, 2009 | post #9)

Thanks for setting the record straight. Please note, the article posted here in Topix was written by Matthew Walberg for chicagobreakingnews.com.  (Mar 5, 2009 | post #2)

Orland Park hopes to quiet trains

LOL! I showed a beautiful house that was right behind the train tracks in Orland and for the life of me, I don't understand why buyers invest in these "challenged located" homes. Problem is, they most likely got a deal when they bought it because of the location but they don't want to give that deal when they're ready to sell.  (Feb 20, 2009 | post #3)

Review: Louie's Chop House

OK, I'll add a balance here as I have no relation to the restaurant. I have dined at Louie's a few times. I remember the food being good and I certainly don't remember bad service. It is pricey for our area and we don't go there often because I have a difficult time justifying paying high fees for food I can cook at home for so much less. I would go there again, though, if I felt like it. In fact, reading these varying reviews makes me want to go try it out again so I can write my own!  (Dec 13, 2008 | post #19)

Man not guilty in fatal Oak Lawn car accident

I was thinking about this all day yesterday. It could have been any one of us. You know, I don't feel safe walking my dogs with my grandchild on the sidewalks of 95h St., Cicero, Southwest Hwy., etc. All it takes is a car trying to avoid another accident jumping the curb or someone not paying attention. And I've been standing on a median on 95th St. in daylight and clear weather and I was afraid. This was an accident that has left many victims.  (Dec 4, 2008 | post #6)

Review: Louie's Chop House

Never Again - I write local restaurant reviews on my blogs - http://www.oak-law n-il.com or http://www.oak-law n-real-estate.com/ blog. If you use the Contact Form on one of those blogs and give me exact details I'll post a bad review for you. I'd need a couple paragraphs (at least 3 sentences each). The more information, the better.  (Dec 3, 2008 | post #9)

Woman charged with trespassing after moving into woman's ...

I wish we had more information. But it sounds like someone simply taking advantage of an older person. She needed a place to live so went trolling in a church to find her prey. What I don't get is what would the little old lady's family think? Did this woman think she was going to get away with it? Or was she hoping there was no family? This is something like the Oak Lawn woman who ripped off two Mokena home sellers by conniving them to give her some kind of option to buy on paper, gave them bogus money orders and lived in their homes until they figured it all out and lost thousands of dollars. Sick and Tired is right, desperate times make people try anything they think they can get away with. But some of these things are so ridiculous I can't imagine they would even try!  (Nov 25, 2008 | post #4)

Tinley man arrested in bank robbery - suspect in Oak Lawn...

Thank goodness he finally got caught before he really hurt someone. Now he can have fun in jail.  (Nov 25, 2008 | post #5)
