Top Ukrainian MP warns Russian could takeover as national...

The people there {Ukraine north, south, east, and west} understand each other just fine. I speak only Russian and I can get by just fine. Pro Ukraine {who seems like a nice guy by the way} probably speaks Ukrainian from a Canadian perspective and some times with the accent it’s hard for some Ethnic Russians to understand as it does sound a bit strange. The languages are not dissimilar and the folks in Ukraine can understand each other just fine. Ukrainian is softer and Russian is a bit harsher but all in all not to different.  (Apr 22, 2010 | post #74)

Russia, Israel plan joint venture to produce drones

Israel already has a version of the US drone and will most certainly factor the technology in the new design. Considering Obama’s and his administrations views in Israel what do they have to loose. After all business is business.  (Apr 22, 2010 | post #2)

Top Ukrainian MP warns Russian could takeover as national...

Interesting post but I will have to disagree, my post here was to point out that both languages are spoken with no real problems, Western Ukraine {Lviv and the like} speaks Ukrainian more then the rest from what I observe in my travels there. I did make a mistake my last blog with my east and west {thanks for pointing it out} I will take your suggestion for some geography lessons under advisement. ,,lol,, in the mean time I will settle for my personal observations and a new GPS unit.  (Apr 21, 2010 | post #59)

Top Ukrainian MP warns Russian could takeover as national...

Russian is spoken in the Western Ukraine and Crimea and Ukrainian is spoken in the East of Ukraine Lviv and the like with Kiev being about half and half. It’s a non issue and the People who live there are OK with it. This is all part of the Ultra Nationalist Pro Ukrainians who are making a huge fuss over this non issue. Ukrainian is the official language already so every one just needs to get over it. This Ultra Nationalist non sense is no good for any one Ukrainian or Russian.  (Apr 21, 2010 | post #54)

Russia Black Sea Fleet presence in Ukraine extended for 2...

It’s important for Ukraine to get along with its larger more powerful neighbor as its #1 its largest trading partner and #2 Russia is directly in charge of the fuel supply that goes through and feeds Ukraine. The Russian fleet that is presently in Sevastopol while politically a hot potato was really a non issue for the people of the Crimea who live and work around the base. The picture that is on my moniker is of the heavy cruiser Moscow that is currently down there, Out of all the ships it was as far as I can see in the best shape of all the one’s there. The rest are much less ready, They currently have a hospital ship there that has not moved since the 90’s for example and according to the Russian and Ukrainian Sailors and dock workers that I talked to told me that its engine room along with some of the other older Russian ships are flooded and would take some very extensive work to get Sea Worthy. Logistically it would be a nightmare for to move there fleet at this time and the cost would be {in my opinion} prohibitive. Better to keep the fleet there for the near future and make the Russians happy and keep the gas on and the people happy who live there who wants to see a friendlier less aggressive stance with Russia.  (Apr 21, 2010 | post #13)

Russia Black Sea Fleet presence in Ukraine extended for 2...

This was of course inevitable as any one with eyes could see that the small fleet of ships there were in no way preparing to go anywhere. Every one in Sevastopol Ethic Russian and the ethic Ukrainians alike that live there have no problem with each other and for the most part get along quite well. There was a instance a year or so ago were a monument was defaced with some paint but even that could be attributed to beer and the energy of youth. I say all in all a good idea that benefited every one.  (Apr 21, 2010 | post #3)
