Real pain management has given way to pill-popping

Yo! I second this comment. I too have unbearable pain that makes me very sick without pain drugs. Morphine happens to be the best. It wipes out the pain and makes it so I can face the day and operate in it. Does it create more pain. I don't know 'cause I cannot get by the pain of the body. My greatest pain is the fear of not being able to get any pills. Each month I go in for evaluation to my doctor. Each month I am tormented that maybe I may die tomorrow if I do not get rid of this pain. Oh God, walk in my shoes, please.  (Sep 30, 2007 | post #10)

Sex after 60: Not all the news is good -- OrlandoSentinel.com

I am a male past 60 and have no sex drive. I attribute to all the drugs I take, like the antidepressants, the psychotic, the opiates. Sheese, it does not even get hard anymore. To be 25 again!  (Sep 30, 2007 | post #15)

Pissy!

Has any of the rest of you wanted to withdraw from all contact with other people? I find myself being real pissy, aggressive in attitude, and not wanting to be around other people. I keep to myself lots and do not attempt to interact with others. I just get real intolerant at times. Is this normal at old age?  (Sep 30, 2007 | post #1)

taper off time release?

Opps, I meant Googling. But then it does not look right. Try Ask.com. One of the two. Good Luck from WY.  (Sep 17, 2007 | post #6)

taper off time release?

I am serious about Afghanistan. Although I think we would have better luck in Thailand. They have the morphine there. Otherwise we would have to be satisfied with opium. I hear it is not bad, but do not know what it does for pain. You should have pain doctors in Lexington KY. Try Goggling pain doctors for Kentucky, then sub headings for Lexington. You might be surprised. Let me know how you fair.  (Sep 17, 2007 | post #5)

taper off time release?

>How do you taper off a time release?< I have no realistic answer for you. I have often thought the best way to get off any opiate is to be put to sleep for a week. When you wake up you should be through with withdrawals. Otherwise, you have to go to a detox clinic and see if they can help you out. But if you are in pain, why get off? I don't want off as my pain makes life unlivable. >My doc offers no suggestions and cuts me off when I ask what do I do about the pain?his response is "Live with it"< Well crap. You cannot just cut a person off. I would think that is criminal and a report to the medical board might be in order. You just cannot "live with it." No way. Evidently this doctor does not deal in pain management. This is the wrong technic in dealing with morphine patients. Get an appointment with a pain doctor. >I have been on some form of morphine for 3 years.< I have been on for 10 years and take 120 mgs per day. > Please anyone help.< Should we spring for 2 tickets to Afghanistan and offer to help the opium poppy growers in exchange for some product? Just make contact with pain management doctors. They are the best source. What state do you live in? City? > I'm looking into another doc for another opinion, but in the mean time???< I know what you mean. I ran out once and liked to have died. It was a weekend and I could not get anyone or anything. Not even on the street. I had to hide all the guns; didn't sleep at all. Damn it was miserable. I've tried to keep a small stash around, but it just does not work. I rather have some semblance of life rather than to lay on the floor and bawl my eyes out. Pain is not fun. Do look for another doctor and fast. It is really a shame you are being treated the way you are. It is deadly to just stop taking your opiates and the doctor should know this. >I think something fishy is going on with him. Not sure what, but something is.< Some doctors get afraid of the DEA when they prescribe opiates for patients. And because you need more and more as your body gets used to it, that creates more nervousness with the doctor. So most would rather not deal with the drug. In my opinion it goes against what they swear to. They are supposed to help people, not tell them to "tough it out." >ANYBODY know what I should do?< Find a source for your opiate, NOW. Call pain management doctors and if there are none call neurologists. They know about pain. You must get a supply going at all costs. No one will just give you any either, unless it is a close friend and then maybe one or two tabs. Find a doctor fast as you can as you have to establish yourself as a patient to be serviced correctly. Other than going to south east Asia where morphine is sold on the street, I do not know how to get any except from a doctor. Beat the bushes, do it yourself 'cause no one will really help you the way you need help. My prayers are with you and I wish I could help you out. I have never been able to find any help on the internet either. I just happen to have a real good doctor. I would do anything for him.  (Sep 17, 2007 | post #2)

Finding painkillers balance between help, abuse

I have been taking morphine for 10 years. Am I addicted? Yes, but without it the pain takes me straight to bed where I am inoperable and just wish to die. I have pain all the time, but morphine does help me cope. At 66 what do I care if I am addicted as long as the pain is somewhat controlled. Otherwise, I might as well be dead. I get no high from morphine and cannot understand those who get a high using it. No government can know what I need, so stay out of the medical business government. Stay out.  (Aug 17, 2007 | post #6)

When is too much too much.

I also put up with more pain than normal. If I take too much morphine, I just go to sleep for several hours and then I am short on my prescription. My Dr. gives me a 30 day supply and Medicare Part D gives me a date when I can reload my presciption. I have that date highlighted in red on my calander. I have three pill boxes that are filled for the 30 day period and it allows me to see if I will be in trouble or not. I have total control over my morphine as one time I ran out for a weekend. I liked to have died. My mate took all the guns out of the house as I was the most miserable asshole on earth for those two or three days. I will not allow that to happen again. Never. I die first. I can operate to near normal all the time with this pain management. There is no need to make getting this drug for my pain so difficult. I am not a druggie or a danger to society as long as I am on it. When I am off, I am a danger to myself. First my pain hits me, then the withdrawal. I am out of my mind. I am 66 years old and no need to be weaned of the morphine. On it I am a good citizen. Keep me this way, please.  (Aug 7, 2007 | post #3)

When is too much too much.

I currently take 180 mgs of Morphine Sulfate per day. Does this seem like a lot to use in a 24 hour period? What do you use in a day's time period? I am about to ask my doctor if he can increase it by one pill per day or 210 mgs. Am I out of line? I find, as I get used to the increase in the drug, the amount I take is misleading as to its effectiveness.  (Jul 27, 2007 | post #1)

Liquid Morphine Question

I did not know you could buy morphine on the street. If it is, I think you had better know your supplier so the quality of morphine is up. I have never seen morphine sold on the street however. Not many people take it, except for great pain. Those people don't usually walk the street looking for morph. Therefore, I guess the price would depend on how much you need it. From a few dollars to many dollars, if you could fine it.  (Jul 25, 2007 | post #4)

Writing Prescriptions.

Taking morphine is a pain in the ass having to deal with keeping legal. I take 60 mgs three times a day for 30 days. My doctor then writes another prescription. He writes: "take one three times a day." Needles to say my insurance company keeps tab on my days. So if I happen to need more than 3 tabs a day, I somehow have to make it up somewhere. I have a hell of a time and my pain is still not totally addressed. I've tried to get him to write "take as directed," but then the pharmacist puts their two cents in and makes him change it to specific times. Any one have any ideas on how to write a prescription so we are all happy?  (Jul 25, 2007 | post #1)

Use of Oxycontin.

Yes, you are correct and I stand with egg on my face. This drug does make an impact on my life, making it bearable to face each new day. Thank you for you comment.  (Jun 21, 2007 | post #5)
