Then those office workers should go get their 18 hours (if have a bachelor's) and get certified. Or, you should start lobbing for high school graduates to qualify as teachers. Even teacher assistants have to have two years of community college. I've been a medical records clerk, a waitress, a cashier, a fast food cook, a taxi driver, a painter and worked in a sheltered workshop.  (Aug 7, 2013 | post #37)

If one did that, they'd have to have at least 3 contact hours a week per class. The usual Master's is 36 hours...Who has 6-12 hours a week spare time these days plus the fact they have to pay tuition for the privilege? Plus, they are holding down a full-time job, raising kids.....etc...  (Aug 6, 2013 | post #35)

I believe that would be up North, California and anywhere the teacher unions are entrenched..  (Aug 6, 2013 | post #34)

This all started about teaching supplies; now it's a diatribe against teachers. Years ago, parents unquestionably supported their kids teachers. Now it's about whether or not they can sue ("Where Are My Glasses?"). The crappy product being produced is directly related to the crappy parents, the media who does not glamorize hard work and the Feds who won't leave education as a state concern.  (Aug 6, 2013 | post #32)

You do realize there are jobs in education that require a Master's: Guidance, Administration, Library Science, Instructional Technology...A kindergarten teacher getting their Master's is probably after the pay increase.  (Aug 6, 2013 | post #31)

Yes, and they only get paid for 9 months of work (they have their paychecks spread out over 12 months)...they don't get off several of the Fed Holidays and have to use annual leave for Christmas and Spring Break. My cousin has been teaching 11 years and is just now breaking 30K/year. The tax break for teachers is $200 a year of spending for their classes. What a deal!  (Aug 6, 2013 | post #30)
