Giving Thanks

I was just wondering what I should be thankful for this Thanksgiving, but it's as plain as the nose on my face. "Upbringing. " As rough and horrible of an upbringing that I had most of the time, I'm mighty thankful for it. There is no upbringing anymore, and it's everywhere you look. Not only where I work, but that's probably the best example of it. But it's also in the stores, in the schools, on the streets, on the road. There is no respect for anyone, not even for themselves. No courtesy, no manners, no discipline. There is no dignity, no principals, no ethics. No responsibility, no drive, no ambition. No values, no sense of right and wrong, no pride. A bunch of lazy, immature, irresponsible, undisciplined whining, crying little brats. And I'm not just talking about the kids either, most of the adults are just as bad. There is NO upbringing anymore, I'm thankful for mine.  (Nov 25, 2011 | post #1)

Veterans Day Lesson

A lesson that should be taught in all schools! Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock , did something not to be forgotten. On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she removed all of the desks out of her classroom. When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no desks. Looking around, confused, they asked, "Ms. Cothren, where are our desks?" She replied, "You can 't have a desk until you tell me what you have done to earn the right to sit at a desk." They thought, "Well, maybe it's our grades." "No," she said. Maybe it's our behavior." She told them, "No, it's not even your behavior. And so, they came and went, the first period, second period, third period. Still no desks in the classroom. By early afternoon television news crews had started gathering in Ms.Cothren's classroom to report about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of her room. The final period of the day came and as the puzzled students found seats on the floor of the desk less classroom. Martha Cothren said, "Throughout the day no one has been able to tell me just what he/she has done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are ordinarily found in this classroom. Now I am going to tell you." At this point, Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it. Twenty-seven (27) U.S. Veterans, all in uniforms , walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk. The Vets began placing the school desks in rows, and then they would walk over and stand alongside the wall. By the time the last soldier had set the final desk in place those kids started to understand, perhaps for the first time in their lives, just how the right to sit at those desks had been earned. Martha said, "You didn't earn the right to sit at these desks. These heroes did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it's up to you to sit in them. It is your responsibility to learn, to be good students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you could have the freedom to get an education. Don't ever forget it." By the way, this is a true story.... If you can read this, thank a teacher. Because it is written in English, thank a Veteran.&#6527 9;  (Nov 10, 2011 | post #1)

Did you ever wonder why some people just can't seem to let other people live their own lives?" Andy was the perfect caper to the 60 Minutes program. More often than not, the best part of the program. He'll be sadly missed.  (Nov 5, 2011 | post #2)

Hank Williams Jr. doesn't regret Obama, Hitler analogy

I served my country for 8 years where I swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of The United States of America. Which grants us "Freedom of Speech." A freedom we have lost to "Political Correctness" and a bunch of thin skinned pansies. Rock on Hank! It's the Fox networks loss, not yours.  (Oct 18, 2011 | post #2)

"Give Em' Hell Harry" Harry Truman was a different kind of President. He probably made as many, or more important decisions regarding our nation's history as any of the other 32 Presidents preceding him. However, a measure of his greatness may rest on what he did after he left the White House. The only asset he had when he died was the house he lived in, which was in Independence Missouri . His wife had inherited the house from her mother and father and other than their years in the White House, they lived their entire lives there. When he retired from office in 1952, his income was a U.S. Army pension reported to have been $13,507.72 a year. Congress, noting that he was paying for his stamps and personally licking them, granted him an 'allowance' and, later, a retroactive pension of $25,000 per year. After President Eisenhower was inaugurated, Harry and Bess drove home to Missouri by themselves. There was no Secret Service following them. When offered corporate positions at large salaries, he declined, stating, "You don't want me. You want the office of the President, and that doesn't belong to me. It belongs to the American people and it's not for sale." Even later, on May 6, 1971, when Congress was preparing to award him the Medal of Honor on his 87th birthday, he refused to accept it, writing, "I don't consider that I have done anything which should be the reason for any award, Congressional or otherwise." As president he paid for all of his own travel expenses and food. Modern politicians have found a new level of success in cashing in on the Presidency, resulting in untold wealth. Today, many in Congress also have found a way to become quite wealthy while enjoying the fruits of their offices. Political offices are now for sale. (sic. Illinois ) "My choices in life were either to be a piano player in a whore house or a politician.. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference!" Harry S. Truman I say dig him up and clone him!!  (Oct 13, 2011 | post #339)

Hiram Hank Williams would have said "Hank why do you drink, why do you roll smoke? Why must you live out the songs that you wrote? Stop and think it over, son how'd you get in this condition? I say hey sawbones I'm just carrying on an old family tradition." Or.... "They say that Hank Jr. has strayed away, from all those songs that put his daddy in an early grave. But his daddy would be proud if he could see Hank Jr. now. Why don't you leave that boy alone, and let him sing his song!"  (Oct 13, 2011 | post #572)

Be careful how you choose your leaders. A lesson from the past. Leader # 1: Drank constantly, morning, noon, and night. Heavy smoker with a violent temper and a foul mouth. Leader # 2: Was a very heavy smoker, a moderate to heavy drinker, and a womanizer. Leader # 3: Never smoked or drank, a vegetarian. Was faithful, loved children and animals. Leader # 1 was: Winston Churchill Leader # 2 was: Franklin D. Roosevelt. Leader # 3 was: Adolf Hitler ************* I haven't watched TV in over 10 years, but every now and then I catch a glimpse of it. The first time I heard Obama speak, it reminded me of the above, that I found several years before. I served in the US Military for 8 years, where I swore an oath to defend and uphold The Constitution of the United Satats of America. The First Amendmant of which grants us "Fredom of Speech" I may not agree with what someone says, but I support their right to say it. In this age of political correctness Americans have become so thin skined they can't handle the truth. They want everything sugarcoated to their likeing. Well grow up America!  (Oct 13, 2011 | post #179)
