Israeli troops begin Gaza pullout as Hamas declares cease...

That was my point NaNa. WHile it is frome the israeli perspective, it is far more objective than many others. Were there a similar site that expressed in similar terms the Arab view, then perhaps a clearer understanding of issues might be possible. There probably is no place where pure objectivity is possible, and we necessarily wouldn't want that anyway. In my view, there needs to be a flavor of personal feeling. It's just that sometimes that 'personal view' goes overboard and loses any objectivity it might have had.  (Apr 17, 2009 | post #7703)

That is a great site. I remember the Grossman story, and its correction was well-done. If everyone--on both sides of the conflict tried to meet the standards on the site for their 'correction activity' in a logical, serious, and objective way, it would go far to defuse some of the ignorance that is preached as fact. What would make it even better would be a FAQ with significant events (like the Big Lie), and a set of factual responses to them. The site could be a valuable place for research that could stand the truthfulness test. Wish the Muslim community had something similar. Thanks for bringing it up.  (Apr 17, 2009 | post #7587)

It never ceases to amaze me that when a person has nothing substantive to say, it's time to get down and personal--in the gutter--rather than either shut up or say something close to the topic at hand. When that doesn't work, you usually simply change your name and start again as if you are someone new. I have great respect for a number of the contributors here who would like to expand their knowledge, rather than trash their brains reading what 'the likes of you' have to offer. have a great day  (Apr 17, 2009 | post #7579)

Somew of what you say is probably true, but it takes just as much effort to be completely biased in the other direction, and spend a lot of time being an 'untutored slob'. Would not have referred to you as that myself. I do agree that reading through these boards is an adventure--one that can be very interesting when someone has something of value to say that increases the overall knowledge of a subject. Perhaps you should try that--it might make your 'adventure' even more impressive. Thanks as well for the comment on my avatar.  (Apr 17, 2009 | post #7561)

Not sure what 'likes of me' means, but it seems obvious that the question of intellectual, or even reasonable response or questions that do not agree with your own pre-determined view of the world are unacceptable. Glad to be obvious on the question of intellectual versus trash response. Like your avatar by the way.  (Apr 16, 2009 | post #7490)

Does that make it a 'democratic' killing? I wonder what the pretext will be for doing it.  (Apr 16, 2009 | post #7459)

Their 'non-help' has been in the range of $31 Billion, plus armaments, and since 1948, not 1967.  (Apr 14, 2009 | post #7305)

Na Na. have you noticed that the numbers of intelligent responses have gone way down.  (Apr 14, 2009 | post #7271)

Call it what it is: A massacre

WOW, israeli tanks and soldiers killing civilians indiscriminately. Using White Phosphorus in violation of International laws, just to "defend themsevles from the ugly menacing Hamas. Using children themselves as shields. Denying even humanitarian food to those penned in because they have sealed the gorders of Gaza, and then shelling the city because a few unguided rockets destroyed some plants in Sderot. Tha's real defensive fighting from the so-called most virtuous high moral fighting force in the world. They should be proud of their record. More importantly, they have idiots like you as their defenders.  (Mar 26, 2009 | post #6348)

Not sure that I am the replacement for either. Like the rest of us, except perhaps the paid Israeli Zealots, there was no real discussion to be made here. I don't expect to reply to most of the trash either. NaNa has more stamina for trying to be intelligent with fools that lasts longer than I. besides, you enjoy talking to yourselves much more--you get the suck-up answers you would prefer to discuss.  (Mar 26, 2009 | post #6346)

Israel soldier calls order during Gaza assault 'murder'

Generally, the answer is 'When they receive orders and direction." My original question, though, related what I believe is a FEW members of the IDF either going beyond their approved rules of engagement, or disregarding them and reacting too quickly. I would hope that is the case. The IDF has too fine an overall record to be smeared with the allegations now out in the media on many fronts. Going back to your question, though, in the US officers and commanders would be relieved and any member acting as described would be ordered to be court-martialled quickly. That info would be out to the public within days that charges had been preferred.  (Mar 25, 2009 | post #15)

That's probably true. What then should be said differently about the IDF, if anything?  (Mar 22, 2009 | post #13)

Lipush, As I have been saying inother threads, I believe you are right that the majority of the IDF are fine soldiers, but a FEW who don't follow the rules simply smear the reputation of the entire force.  (Mar 22, 2009 | post #6)

Ministerial panel: Tighten Gaza borders, strip Palestinia...

This seems to be yet another indication that Israel is really oocupying and controlling Gaza---even though it claims otherwise. The soldier should be released--but not because Israel continues to deny access to gaza and forces people into life-threatending health conditions from the carnage the IDF wrought on Gaza and Raffa. The soldier should be released to show that Hamas still controls its own destiny. If the soldier is released, does anyone really believe that Israel will keep its promises? it think not. only time will tell, of course.  (Mar 21, 2009 | post #1)

OIC chief Ihsanoglu visits Hamas' Gaza

There are several interesting points here: 1- Why is the People's Daily the only majoir news outlet which broke and commented on the story? 2- Of what value is his visit? 3- Would his ivist have occured, or would he even been able to get through Raffa Gate from Egypt is he was opposed to Israel--even thoug hte Israelis claim they are not 'in occupation' of Gaza? Could be an interesting discussion.  (Mar 21, 2009 | post #1)
