FHP shooting: An eyewitness account

yes, one to the head should have done it. come at me with a drawn weapon and I will react with extreme prejudice and then let the grand jury sort things out.  (Sep 9, 2012 | post #2)

August 23 Florida Primary Election: Will you vote?

There are more parties and candidates out there that would like to become president. They are called minority parties and several have candidates. If we are ever to have something more than what we have now we all have to make a choices and support something different, build consensus and numbers and then become that other choice that may become a difference. As for what kind of American I am, I would say that I am more of an individual that identifies more with my community than a nation. However, as a member of a community that is a part of a nation I also realize we live on a planet that has finite resources and must find a way to live as a whole in a cooperative and sustainable manner. So to argue there is no choice but the two is wrong and incorrect.  (Aug 12, 2012 | post #2097)

It is a shame we have to go through this.  (Aug 8, 2012 | post #2)

August 23 Florida Primary Election: Will you vote?

It is all a washout. One party is the same as the other party and controlled by the corporate government laid down by Edward Bernays and his cronies. How is the war economy working for you? Until we decide that a sustainable society is the way to go and change our economic system from strict consumerism to one of sustainability we are all screwed. August 23 Florida Primary Election: Will you vote?

Yes, the date is Tuesday, August 14 to be exact. Revolution is not a dinner party and comes from the barrels of guns. If one thinks he is a KIng and I am the peasant then I think it's time for dinner.  (Mar 21, 2012 | post #1855)

Gun Control - Lake City, FL

@ SIFRRAT........ see it as a worldwide pattern. We are in the midst of a economic system that has run its path, a population that still has a thing about death and still is governed by biology/survival. While there are those that are becoming enlightened and there are those who wish to overcome the obvious and make the change we are being held back by those who hold the means of production and will not let go. I would suggest research into a man by the name of Edward Bernay and his influence. PAX  (Mar 21, 2012 | post #25)

wlvo goes dark

I fear that WLVO is gone forever as we knew it. Here is what's happening. Leon managed to file for an extension of being dark for one year before he died. What this means is the station is still in his name as license holder but being demised he can no longer hold the license. The station is in probate and most likely be for a while. This will mean the license will be ended for WLVO and the frequency will be offered for sale to the highest bidder once again or sold by the family that has the authority. Regardless, the station as we enjoyed and as I loved broadcasting on will be a different animal when it comes back to life if ever at all. We shall see.  (Mar 21, 2012 | post #7)

Fire assesment on your property

@ SFR-Rat -- In discussing the EMS/Fire system I was only saying the funding is from two areas, asessments, grants, and general revenues. EMS is a losing business any way you look at it. AS for the volunteer system our community has changed so much that the system is almost unworkable because of either interest or commitment. While the volunteer system can work and has worked very well it is not the answer for this area. What we have now is better than what we have had in years, not perfect but is working. For the first time all elements have the same equipment and under a system that can work if we let it. I know there can be improvements and I feel they will come in time. I have watched the system evolve for the past 38 years and feel that the changes instituted will see a system that is workable for the county. As for the director supporting volunteers and professionals all it takes is willingness and cooperation and I believe that Charlie is getting that but that can change at the whim of the commission. Good to hear from you and your thoughts on this matter.  (Mar 18, 2012 | post #8)

Gulf 104 sucks

I will miss playing my weekday shift on WLVO too. It was a great run when it lasted over over 11 years that one was. As far as concerts are concerned, I have seen some great musicians at the Music Park too and at a very reasonable cost too.  (Mar 12, 2012 | post #8)

A typical reaction from a person with limited talents or the ability to react in a logical and reasonable manner to material that begs discussion. As far as having it together to say I don't is a lie but to say I am not together is also a lie but not to be one is to be the other. Now most people will say that is a limited argument but the understanding of the whole understands its parts. As far as the Koch's the name is as common in Germany as the name Smith or Jones is here. As to any relationship to another Koch is not important to me as I am more interested in the common good for all and not limited to a family or a small social group. As for being "Poor" does this mean oh I feel sorry which is not wanted or cared for or in such a way that oh poor me as being insane or stupid at best. It maybe so but then again I care not what poor you mean. I only wish to point out in a topic for discussion concerning elections a point of reference or discussion a position and so far no one has taken me up on that. And if one means a story... I have millions of them as I am in the business of gathering stories and selling them to news outlets. So Laaaaaaa what's your point if any?  (Mar 9, 2012 | post #1821)

Interesting point LAAAAAAA from Spring Hill......... Much like the White Horse argument. Is a white horse a horse? No so, as color does not denote shape and shape does not denote color. However a White Horse can be called a horse.  (Mar 9, 2012 | post #1817)

August 23 Florida Primary Election: Will you vote?

I would like to add this to the discussions... Unfortunately, humanity¬ís behavior remains utterly inappropriate for dealing with the potentially lethal fallout from a combination of increasingly rapid technological evolution matched with very slow ethical-social evolution. The human ability to do has vastly outstripped the ability to understand. As a result civilization is faced with a perfect storm of problems driven by overpopulation, overconsumption by the rich, the use of environmentally malign technologies, and gross inequalities. They include loss of the biodiversity that runs human life-support systems, climate disruption, global toxification, alteration of critical biogeochemical cycles, increasing probability of vast epidemics, and the specter of a civilization-destr oying nuclear war. These biophysical problems are interacting tightly with human governance systems, institutions, and civil societies that are now inadequate to deal with them. The rapidly deteriorating biophysical situation is more than bad enough, but it is barely recognized by a global society infected by the irrational belief that physical economies can grow forever and disregarding the facts that the rich in developed and developing countries get richer and the poor are left behind. And the perpetual growth myth is enthusiastically embraced by politicians and economists as an excuse to avoid tough decisions facing humanity. This myth promotes the impossible idea that indiscriminate economic growth is the cure for all the world's problems, while it is actually (as currently practiced) the disease that is at the root cause of our unsustainable global practices. In the face of an absolutely unprecedented emergency, society has no choice but to take dramatic action to avert a collapse of civilization. Either we will change our ways and build an entirely new kind of global society, or they will be changed for us. Uncontrolled economic growth is unsustainable on a finite planet. Governments should recognize the serious limitations of GDP as a measure of economic growth and complement it with measures of the five forms of capital, built (produced), natural, human, social and institutional/fina ncial capital, i.e., a measure of wealth that integrates economic, social and environmental dimensions and is a better method for determining a country¬ís productive potential. The failure of the economic system to internalize externalities leads to the continuation of environmentally damaging activities. If externalities are uncorrected then markets fail: they generate prices that do not reflect the true cost to society of our economic activities. Emissions of greenhouse gases represent a market failure as the damages caused by emissions from the burning of fossil fuels are not reflected in prices. The price of fossil fuels should reflect the true cost to society, resulting in a more level playing field for environmentally-so und renewable energy technologies and a stimulus to conserve energy. There are a range of economic instruments for correcting the emissions market failure from taxes and emissions trading schemes, to standards and other regulations. There are a number of other relevant market failures that must also be corrected if we are to manage the risks of climate change: correcting the emissions externality on its own will not be sufficient. For example, there are market failures around research and development (innovation), there are imperfections in capital markets that prevent financing for low-carbon infrastructure, there are network externalities, e.g. around electricity grids and public transport, there are failures in the provision of information, and there are failures in valuing ecosystems and biodiversity. In addition, environmentally-da maging subsidies in areas such as energy, transportation and agriculture cause further market distortion and are in general leading to environmental degradation and should be eliminated.  (Mar 9, 2012 | post #1816)
