700 Clergy and Lay Leaders Call on NY Senate to Pass Marriage Bill
The RSV still retains the majesty of the KJV, but w/less of its awkwardness. I found any Bible w/the word "English " in its title is usu. more readable. (3 hrs ago | post #63)

I've seen as few as two and as many as six different translations in one parallel Bible; the interesting part is looking for parallel w/the versions you want. (3 hrs ago | post #61)
Yes I don't, but YOU do; as an atheist, you eventually end-up worshiping something, in this case, yourself; but of course, you're only a legend in your own mind. Are you ready to slink back under the rock you came from? (4 hrs ago | post #287)
Bishop: Episcopalians should get involved
TEC is the perfect example of the road to hell being paved w/good intentions; TEC went out of "the way" to become inclusive, but at the expense of losing many of it's own orthodox members. How smart was that? (10 hrs ago | post #5)

Anglican Diocese grows with addition of parishes
Can you wait a few years? "The New International Version of the Bible is set to get its first revision in more than 25 years. "Yet, the revision could re-open a heated debate about changing gender terms in the Scripture. "One version, Todays' NIV, changed some phrases such as 'sons of God' to 'children of God.' "While supporters say such changes more closely reflect the original language, critics say it twists the original meanings of the Scripture for the sake of political correctness. "Douglas Moo, a professor at Wheaton College and chairman of the Committee on Bible Translation, promised that every gender-related change would be reviewed closely. "'I am not sure how it's going to come out,' Moo said. 'We have a genuine, authentic review process ... Everything is on the table.' "Randy Stinson of the Louisville, Ky.-based Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood has been one of the most vocal opponents of gender-inclusive translations. Still, he said the council is in favor of updating the NIV. "'We're still probably going to differ on the way they handle some of the gender language,' Stinson said. 'But we're open and anxious to see what they come up with and we're really going to be reserving judgment.' "The revised NIV is set to be released in 2011." (10 hrs ago | post #35)

I recommend you don't use just ONE Bible, esp. if it's a paraphrase. However, a parallel Bible would suffice. I also have a concordance and comprehensive commentary available; w/the all the so-called scholars on Topix, you will certainly need them. (10 hrs ago | post #58)
So now you're omnicisent? Do you claim any other divine qualities that we should know abt? BTW, how can you be an atheist when you think you're "god", or don't you believe in yourself? (11 hrs ago | post #285)
When is Discrimination a Good Thing? When Youa re Discriminatin...
from illinoisreview: "Matthew’s most recent Muslim guest to speak on the Ft. Hood massacre was Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, American Islamic Forum for Democracy (AIFD) President, and outspoken critic of political Islam, who warned: "'We have to be careful that political correctness is driving us away from protecting ourselves from the enemy within and from the enemy from abroad. And there is a political ideology that has massed itself within a theology that I love, but we can’t deny. It’s time for Muslims to stop complaining and stop being victims and say you know what, we have to start from within combating. No different from the time of the American Revolution, they determined that there were Christians that were part of the Church of England that were enemies of America and there Christians that believed in a country based on the establishment clause. And based on freedom and liberty that were about what the West was about. And that’s what we really need to start to make that distinction.' " (12 hrs ago | post #1)
Handel - "Another Gay Anglican?
from christianitytoday: "... Anyone opposing what might be described as a gay political agenda is in danger of being accused of anti-gay bias ... When I attended the Love Won Out protests in Palm Springs last fall, I was dismayed to see that the local protest organizers kept pounding on the word 'hate,' declaring Palm Springs a 'hate-free zone' and characterizing everyone associated with Love Won Out as being motivated by 'hate.'" "While it is patently false to assume that any opposition to any aspect of homosexuality must result from bias, that doesn't do anything to diminish the evangelical image problem in this area. And it may possibly mask something more serious than an image problem. It's easy to dismiss someone who assumes that all opposition comes from bias, and it's easy to cite principle in support of opposition. The real question is whether, for any given person, the opposition to social or political goals held by many gay people comes purely from principle or whether it might be amplified by bias ..." Bishop: Episcopalians should get involved
from timesleader: "The Episcopal Church loses about 19,000 members a year because more of them die than are baptized into the church, Jefferts Schori said. The average Episcopalian is about 57 years old. The average age American is 37, she said. "'Fifty-seven -year-olds don’t produce a lot of children,' Jefferts Schori said. 'But, there are lots and lots of communities and populations among us that are growing.' "Younger generations don’t know what the church has to offer, she said, adding that it’s going to take Episcopalians to become more passionate about ministry to attract new people. "'How are they going to find out if we don’t tell them?' she asked. Try telling them the gospel. (13 hrs ago | post #1)
Converted churches combine Anglican traditions, Catholic values
from marquettetribune: "'I left the Episcopal Church because it was slowly descending into chaos,' Rodgers said, referring to his opposition to the church’s acceptance of openly gay clergy, blessing over same-sex unions and allowance of female priests and bishops. "Traditionali sts in the Episcopal Church believe these practices go against biblical teachings. Rodgers said he and his parishioners were looking to maintain a more conservative approach to worship when they left the church. "They weren’t the only ones to leave the Episcopal Church. "The Catholic Church has been strongly encouraging Anglican conversions since 1980, when Pope John Paul II passed the 'Anglican Use' provision. It allowed for former Anglican parishes to keep certain elements of the Anglican service and tradition while also embracing conservative Catholic values." (13 hrs ago | post #1)
