HI Esskay: re : http://www.topix.c om/forum/world/cos ta-rica/THGCO47LHH 1FS7DR7/post6206 A few days ago, you posted some very technical dental questions. Your concerns are shared by my wife and I (& others too?). I would expect that responses from most dental patients here, would be biased by their individual experience and not any specialized technical training. http://en.wikipedi a.org/wiki/Prostho dontics#Training (although: TGI suggested a some readings that were very technical) From your prior posts, your write that you are a patient of Dr. Prada, a respected prosthodontist. With your concerns, I would send him some current "selfies " highlighting & expressing your concerns to him. As he has examined "your mouth" and has your most-recent dental-images, his responses should be most relevant to your individual condition. Alternatively, you could email a general inquiry to other respected C.R. "prosthodonti sts" ( a cursory web-search reveals some ... ) http://www.novaden talcr.com/meet-our -doctors http://www.advance dentalcostarica.co m/About-Us/costa-r ica-dentist-dr-eug enio-brenes.html http://www.aesthet icdentistrycr.com/ home.html We wish you the best. _JMK  (Friday Aug 29 | post #6262)

anecdote: ... during the final days of our stay at the Casa Marco Recovery Center, a couple of the recently arrived guests(patients) were surprised to discover that the dental clinic would be closed Friday, Aug 15th. for "Mothers Day". If like most, you schedule your dental clinic days in Costa Rica with "little wiggle room" ... you will likely want to avoid the ugly surprise of undisclosed holiday closures @ your dental clinic. So ...before booking your dental trip to C.R., you might want take notice of the Costa Rica government holidays (or you could inquire with your clinic's staff): http://www.timeand date.com/holidays/ costa-rica/  (Thursday Aug 28 | post #6251)

re: posting links to personal websites. Some observant, sticklers of forum propriety may have taken exception to promotion of a travel business 1) at the bottom of each webpage, 2) on the contact-page and 3) the use of a business email. {disclosure : NO such "Judged" was from this poster}  (Monday Aug 25 | post #6208)

{as I was once asked (in a PM), how I decided on a dental clinic} ... Perhaps someone still 'deciding', may find this beneficial. The following criteria was helpful to form a semi-objective basis for my decisions: 1) Credentials: Professional Certifications, Specialist, Education/Degrees/ Training 2) Clinic Attributes (specialties, capabilities {ex. on site lab, etc.}, staff size, location {lodging, restaurants, sightseeing, etc.} 3) Experiences & Comments by Patients/others : Pros, Cons, SUM(credible) 4) Personal Impressions : (candor, credible, sincere, etc.; Communications, Correspondence, Website, etc.) 5) Treatment Plan & Costs : Personalized, fully detailed, options, recommendations, contingencies, etc. {Warning, some statistics ahead} : Once this accumulated data was tabularized (ex. spreadsheet), I assigned a (subjective) relative-rank in each sub-category for each considered clinic ; then, for each clinic, an "Overall-Scor e" was quantified (using a personally-chosen "weighting-fa ctor" for each sub-category). Helpful? yes, Perfect? by no means.  (Saturday Aug 23 | post #6200)

another $0.02 ... for dental patients considering C.R. ... the process of selecting a dental clinic is personal and subjective; although using a single source or opinion (ex. this forum) would not be prudent.  (Saturday Aug 23 | post #6198)

Thank you Sam. --> I concur : the most respected C.R. doctors ARE too busy ( treating, corresponding, training, etc.) to personally comment here. And more importantly, the possible benefits for them are few, but detrimental risks for the doctors may be consequential and serious. ... "secretly ", my proposal was ... more hypothetical and provocative than practical, given the lordly attitude of some frequent posters.  (Saturday Aug 23 | post #6197)

Chicago Dave , thanks for your points of view ... let me respond ... >> ... AS A GROUP can enforce it as long as we all subscribe to it. If lots of people flag or denounce violators, then the message gets across. {this system work the same for patients OR for the experts} >>... Topix readers AS A GROUP cannot enforce that standard. It's just too complicated and subjective. {I believe you may be underestimating the forum members} >> ... Dentists have a readily available way to get their opinions across to the general public: Their own websites. {If experts followed suggested guidelines, their posts would be helpful & knowledgeable; or else they would risk losing credibility and professional prestige} {imho: Dentist websites are nice marketing tools, but are generally lacking in building professional credibility} >> ... that guideline just by itself would immediately exclude about 99.99% of the non-patient posts we get on this board! { that's why that guideline was listed 1st ) So, with community acceptance, what I propose could add another dimension to the forum utility for dental patients considering Costa Rica.  (Aug 18, 2014 | post #6141)

... as a contrary opinion to the comments regarding "patients only", I honestly believe that many folks would appreciate and benefit from the advice, suggestions, viewpoints and thoughts from respected experts such as dentists; with the caveats that such posts: - fully identify the expert-poster and credentials, - are NOT self-serving nor self-promoting, - be limited in quantity (ex. 1/wk.?), - are as specific & focused as possible, - NOT addressed to any individual poster, - are of general interest to patients considering C.R. dentists (perhaps an elite, select-committee of "elders" could pre-qualify those interested "experts " ?)  (Aug 18, 2014 | post #6137)
