Letters to the Editor - Letters

Has anyone read the story regarding Barack Obama and how he's going to have to say goodbye to his Blackberry soon? It makes me chuckle, but because of the Presidential Records act, apparently they do not use e-mail or anything electronic to communicate. They said Barack Obama is considering using a laptop in the oval office, which would make him the first president to do so. I just thought this was particularly funny considering how many people tried to make an issue of the fact that John McCain infrequently uses the computer, and that because of his war injuried couldn't type very well. Or the assertion by some that he doesn't know how to email (which turned out to be untrue). It became an issue, which is hysterical to me now, seeing how President's don't even use email or computers! Just goes to show how deep people will dig during a campaign, and the media will exploit it- I mean seriously, is the first time that the press became aware that Presidents don't use email? I highly doubt it. But I guess their memory can get conveniently fuzzy!  (Nov 16, 2008 | post #2)

Hawaii quarter debuts downtown - News

It's perfectly acceptable to point out all the things that make a culture unique- but it's ignorant to do it by degrading others. It just makes you look desperate and sad  (Nov 15, 2008 | post #328)

What should Sarah Palin do now?

Oh, ok, the subject is Bush, that makes it convenient to completely leave out half of the equation. I completely understand how the obama campaign worked then- only talk about the issue if it is specifically addressed and then don't include any other pertinent information...because it's not the subject! brilliant  (Nov 15, 2008 | post #224)

Who wants to bet Obama will go down as the worst Presiden...

Once again I will ask the question to which no one will answer- does Congress have no accountability  (Nov 15, 2008 | post #195)

Have you ever been in the military? Do you have first hand experience or knowledge? Or are you just towing your party line  (Nov 15, 2008 | post #194)

Are you kidding?? Is that a joke? Who would have anticipated the tactics that insurgents took?? The way the armed forces operated has changed from top to bottom and back up again due to the lessons that are being learned. As they learn they are accomplishing more. Stop looking for someone to blame and conspiracies  (Nov 15, 2008 | post #191)

Up until Iraq, the emphasis had always been on jungle warfare. It started to see a shift toward urban warfare after Desert Storm (but still the ground troop action there was MINIMAL). Fighting insurgents and IEDs are also completely new. They had to learn as they went along. It goes way beyond guns and bullets. Take off your blinders  (Nov 15, 2008 | post #188)

Where do you think the unions fit in? The foreign manufacturers that are based out of the southern US don't seem to be running into this extreme- they are not Unionized. Didn't the automakers go through this before- during Carter? They bounced back, change can't happen over night  (Nov 15, 2008 | post #184)

And Congress had nothing to do with it? They make no attempt to hide their contempt for Bush and the soldier's suffer. Why don't they take a paycut instead of approving raises for themselves everyyear. Maybe some of that money could have bought equipment. Besides much of the equipment issue was a result of not knowing what we were going to need until we got in there. The armed forces have always been like that- adapt and overcome  (Nov 15, 2008 | post #183)

I guess I'm slightly confused as to why if you're such an advocate of sovereignty- you're not here fighting for your cause  (Nov 15, 2008 | post #228)

Wouldn't you worry that the infusion would only prolong the inevitable? I mean just because the gov pumps $25B or whatever the proposal is, doesn't mean that John Smith next door is going to buy a Yukon. They are still going to take a nose-dive, maybe it's time to cut our losses now and start the rebuild process rather than draw it out  (Nov 14, 2008 | post #179)

Who else is tired of hearing about Obama?

So if she's Sec of State, does this mean she'll be dogding sniper bullets again? Just curious  (Nov 14, 2008 | post #9)
