Rising assessed values still would keep taxes high

Good suggestion.  (Feb 12, 2008 | post #10)

Rising assessed values still would keep taxes high

I agree. If I'm paying taxes on a home that I bought for $100,000 and someone wants to buy it for $200,000. Guess what? I'll probably sell. I'm not sure what the other guy was trying to imply...the market won't be hampered at all by a true FMV system. It forces local governments to be mroe efficient and oh, the ugly word in central indiana...PLAN...f or the future and not build and build haphazardly. That's why we are in our current mess. Just look around us. If you live in a nieghborhood that is what some of us would call "urban sprawl" property tax increases are largely because of you. Not those of use who live in high density areas.  (Feb 12, 2008 | post #9)

Man will pay $5,763 for abandoning dogs

I agree, there is a difference between human and non-human life (of course, this is from a human's perspective and not a non-human's). However, behavior of this type is likely to extend into his treatment of his fellow humans. If one is unable to care for an animal correctly, then it's arguable that person is unable to appropriately care for a person. The punishment does appear just in this case. Hopefully, he has truly learned his lesson and will be more mature in his actions in the future.  (Feb 5, 2008 | post #18)

Hoosiers gave most to Clinton last year, reports show

HAH. If the Clinton's damaged the country, the Bush's have completely destroyed it! We had a flourishing economy, were well-respected among other nations, and were making strives towards social equality under Clinton. Bush and the conservative ilk have bankrupted this country, destroyed the economy, and ruined our reputation in the world. It will take years to recover from our current position. Regardless, OBAMA in 2008!!!!  (Feb 2, 2008 | post #41)

Forget townships and go with 1 county, 1 assessor

The Republicans have stymied Democrats' efforts to streamline Marion County government for years. Nothing new here. If they had not meddled in Peterson's plans we'd have a much nicer city today.  (Jan 30, 2008 | post #22)

Dwindling jobless benefits funds draw ire

Do you have to even ask...they obviously don't understand how much of anything works.  (Jan 29, 2008 | post #88)

Exonerated inmate freed from prison

He probably was in the "wrong place" at the "wrong time" and didn't have an alibi that was verifiable, so the police and prosecutors had an easy target. They had a suspect and didn't do their job to make sure it was the actual person who did the crime. I'm sure this happens a lot more than we think, especially after a heinous crime and the public smells blood...in those cases it's difficult to get fair trials. Obviously for Scott, he did not.  (Jan 28, 2008 | post #31)
