Stfd. deputy police chief to retire

Whoever this is, it is not me.  (Nov 28, 2012 | post #2472)

Glad to hear that you didn't read them. But that won't stop you from seeming to know all about them. My landscaper friend? Gee, I hope you don't mean a retired officer who had to give up his attempt at making a second life because the pain was too great for him to continue. That "landscaper friend"?  (Sep 11, 2012 | post #122)

Having read the actual contracts and agreements in question (unlike you), it is not a matter of double standards. Likewise it is not a question of politics. The documents are clear and specific. No amount of anything will change their wording or intent nor will the signatures disappear. At the end of the process the plaintiff will receive what the contracts and agreements define and we will pay for that as well as legal fees, court costs and whatever punitive damages may result. You are correct in that the real question should be “Why?”. What's worse is that it appears to be happening again. I applaud your questioning of Town Hall. I only wish your statement of "facts" were accurate. Your arguments would be better as a result.  (Sep 10, 2012 | post #117)

A better question to ask is why, with one current Assistant Fire Chief able to retire at any moment and another nearly so, there is no promotion list nor approved test available for the position? This is exactly the same thing you are angry about happening again. Pattern recognition problem? The problem is not with the firefighters.  (Sep 8, 2012 | post #107)

No, you don't have to do anything. You can keep posting whatever inaccuracies you want. You can have whatever opinion you want. It won't change the result at all. Fortunately the facts can't be made up like that.  (Sep 8, 2012 | post #104)

Tell you what, why don't you contact Chief Murray and ask him if he wouldn't mind waiving his HIPAA rights just for you? It shouldn't be a problem since you already claim to know everything.  (Sep 8, 2012 | post #99)

Yet again, completely inaccurate.  (Sep 7, 2012 | post #97)

It's simple. So far all of your accusations have been inaccurate. Either the amounts were fictitious, incomplete or it never happened. I'm not sure why it is you think I should do your work for you. I would be better off investigating accusations made by George Mulligan.  (Aug 17, 2012 | post #92)

Fire union contract ratified Written by Joseph Cole Tuesday, 14 August 2012 13:11 Stratford is out of the pension business. That was the message from Mayor John A. Harkins following the Town Council’s vote Monday to ratify three union contracts, including the Stratford Fire Department. Moving forward, all municipal hires will operate under defined contribution plans. http://stratfordst ar.com/news/74150- fire-union-contrac t-ratified.html  (Aug 15, 2012 | post #71)

Why don't you hum a few bars and get us started? Perhaps a name and an amount? Maybe you have a copy of an actual contract to post?  (Aug 14, 2012 | post #69)

Ah...that explains it. You never read the whole thing. Unfortunately, whether I agree with the pensions or not is irrelevant. It's contract law and sooner or later (probably later) the taxpayers will lose this one. Just like when Mayor Moron fired his own staff on his last day and gave them taxpayer cash as well as a bagful for himself. Like he said, it was all perfectly legal wasn't it?  (Aug 14, 2012 | post #67)

Let's see now...are we paying your police captain? Yes. Why? Because there was a mayor that signed a CONTRACT. Get it? And why, pray tell, did the A/C's join 998? My guess would be that not a single one believed that they could work for Miron without union protection. Maybe they asked Jay Cybart? But that's just my guess because that's what I would do. The guy was a whacko. But you seem to keep missing that actual point don't you? One more time just for you: There are contracts with Harkins signature on them. They are done deals. Legally binding and all that. So what will the Town do? Maybe pay the Town Attorney, HR Director and a few consultants to drag it out for a couple of hundred thousand dollars and lose anyway? As for the cop with the back pay "settlement ", well, we ALL know who started that mess don't we?  (Aug 13, 2012 | post #65)

Sigh...if only you two learned how to read. "Editor’s Note: Just to be clear, we do not believe that the practice of incorporating overtime into pension amounts should be a standard practice. However, when you sign a contract you are obligated to abide by the terms of the contract. That is the purpose of a contract and without that business in this country would cease. The proper way to change a contract is to renegotiate the terms. It will not happen by whining or moaning." http://stratfordch arter.wordpress.co m/2012/05/13/hosed /#comment-18462 As for "bashing that guy" that was Local 407 that did the bashing by filing grievances, not me. What is perplexing is that you are so willing to blame anyone except the ones who are responsible for correcting the problem. This will happen over and over and over again until the contracts are negotiated properly. In the meantime you can go ahead and whine about how the taxpayer must pay the evil Firefighter and ignore the signed contracts and the additional expense it will incur. Or you can do what I do: demand contract changes. Although, I'm sure you would prefer to whine.  (Aug 13, 2012 | post #63)

Seriously, I can't keep reprinting this stuff just for you. You are just going to have to read it the first time: "The first factoid is that there must be a scene commander on duty 24/7/365. In Stratford the scene commander is an Assistant Chief. Stratford has had the bare minimum of these for as long as anyone can remember. There are four. The math is simple: 168 hours in a week divided by 4 = 42 hours each per week. The second factoid is that two Assistant Chiefs retired within 6 months of each other. (You might ask at this point if any effort at all was made to talk them out of it? Answer: no.) That left two Assistant Chiefs. If we remember the lesson from above: 168 hours in a week divided by 2 = 84 hours each per week. Throw in a hurricane or snowstorm as a variable and you get a LOT of hours. The third factoid is that HR and the administration did absolutely nothing about this for almost a whole year. Somehow the responsibility for all this overtime got left out of the article. Go figure." http://stratfordch arter.wordpress.co m/2012/05/13/hosed /#comment-18461  (Aug 12, 2012 | post #57)

receive an even higher Town pension that what he is already getting." Kind of out of touch aintcha? It turns out (warning: reality check) the former assistant chief has not received a penny from the Town for the last 5.5 months. "If this had come under Miron or the fireman was Miron's friend, I am sure your article would be much different." You mean like all the firings and 2% escalator clauses? Maybe hiring consultant after consultant at ten of thousands of dollars trying to drum up "evidence " to get rid of people. Nope, my articles covered that. Remember? But hey, what would you know about contracts? The ones who will be hosed here are us, but not by this firefighter. We will be hosed with unnecessary legal fees and fines fby the HR Department and Town Attorney at the mayor's direction .  (Aug 11, 2012 | post #54)
