Ticket's in the mail: Red-light cameras questioned

Haha, I'd fess up if we could find where it says that you must make a 2-3 second stop. I could use your help, can you cite the vehicle code? I really need that info, I'd like to get my 500 bucks back and I can't find where it says I have to stop for 3 seconds. I stopped before the line, then proceeded, which is all I can find. Please, help me out.  (Mar 16, 2009 | post #29)

Ticket's in the mail: Red-light cameras questioned

EXACTLY. That's what I couldn't find, and what I feel I should go back to court for. But I paid it out of FEAR of my insurance wrongly going up for 3 years. See the predicament I was in? I was turning right on red. Stopped before the line, then carefully continued turning right... flash! when i got the ticket, i assumed "this is an honest mistake, they will just clear it when I show them" but they got me on a fraction of a second. so first my violation was "running a red light" then when they saw I didnt' do that, they made this one up "well you didn't stop for 3 seconds, pay up" the best part, is the paper ticket showed me in one shot sitting behind the white line. then 3 seconds after, I'm 5 feet past that spot, turning right. The video shows me going so slow I'm surprised no one honked. When I'm forced to use that signal now, I don't even turn. I'm sure it pisses people off, I'm sorry but that's an expensive right turn! I wait for it to be green, even though it's LEGAL to turn.  (Mar 16, 2009 | post #28)

Bob, it's not that simple. You can fight the ticket, but you'll lose. You can ask for a reduction, but then you are NO LONGER eligible for traffic school. And, to get traffic school, you have to pay in full, immediately. What's more, is that if a red light ticket gets on your record, that's really bad news for insurance. Mine would have gone up 300 dollars, and stay that way for three years. By the way, the insurance company tells me that CA no longer lets them overlook if you have one violation, they count them all now. So I HAD to get that thing off my record. What's worse? Here's why I got the ticket. Turning right from 41st to Claires St., the light was red. The car in front of me turns, and the light flashes. I stop, then make my right turn... it flashes again. I paid almost $500 for turning right on red, that is allowed. I tried to fight it, and they said "OK, so you didn't stop for 3 seconds then" which, shouldn't that be a different violation? Then we watched the video. I stop for 2 seconds. not 3. I ask, can i take this to court? "Sure, but you'll probably lose and then you will no longer be eligible for traffic school" $300 per 6 month insurance term for 3 years? I HAD to get this off my record. SO, it came down to paying this WRONG ticket $500 or losing my chance to go to traffic school and pay $1800 in insurance. Which would you do? I'd like to take it back to court now that it's safe, but I dont know if you can. I know that light dispenses WRONG tickets all the time. One of the cameras is OK, but the claires st. one is always going off for no reason, then I've WATCHED people plow through it with no flash?  (Mar 15, 2009 | post #3)

Mysterious door rattling reported in county; earthquake r...

It definitely was not thunder. This was a building rattle. I thought it was a quake, but it rattled more than the roll of a quake. I only heard the 9:15 one. Weird that they happened throughout the day, and probably the night, and last night in southern california? Yet it's not an earthquake, it's not thunder, it's not a sonic boom (no planes reported)... very fishy. I wonder if something is going on farther into the pacific that we haven't heard about yet?  (Mar 5, 2009 | post #46)

Epicenter blog: Umbrella Man sighting?

Jack, I almost died from reading your sentence out loud. There was hardly any punctuation, and that run-on almost knocked me to the floor from lack of oxygen. I know it's petty, but I just couldn't stand it, especially when it was such a negative comment.  (Feb 19, 2009 | post #16)

Special menus offered for Valentine's Day

Those seem like fun, but I agree, I wouldn't go out to a restaurant that night! It will be so busy and all the loving will make everyone eat slower... haha just kidding. I think we are going to choose a recipe we've never had and make it together, kind of a project.  (Feb 11, 2009 | post #2)
