CWL has TURNED there back on the COMMUNITY!!!
http://www.kait8.c om/Global/story.as p?S=11594384 All questions and no answers still. Does anyone know if there have been any challenges to the EPA ruling that has brought about this change? (Monday Nov 30 | post #32)
CWL has TURNED there back on the COMMUNITY!!!
In our case, the cost would be amortized over 10+ years and added to the CWL account for service at this address. So, if we were to sell before the note is paid, the potential purchaser will be billed until that charge is settled. SO....which is worse...trying to sell a house with a septic system or one with a built-in extra CWL fee for years? (Monday Nov 30 | post #31)
CWL has TURNED there back on the COMMUNITY!!!
Fabulous! You are SO right! They WOULD misspell something or the last half of the story would just disappear! I've seriously thought of applying as a proofreader but I don't think anyone there could decipher my resume. Thanks for the chuckle! (Saturday Nov 28 | post #27)
CWL has TURNED there back on the COMMUNITY!!!
Perhaps the worst part of this situation so far is the way in which the information was presented. "CWL to no longer accept septic waste. Period." Would it not have been better received if the news article also suggested options for septic system owners to consider? Forgive me, but this seems just more typical Jonesboro hysteria. I think we could send a news release to the SUN saying that the sky shall fall on Friday, they'd print it verbatim, and all the good people would believe and seek shelter in the nearest cave calling someone ugly names along the way! I have a septic tank at home and I feel confident that I will be able to have it serviced if necessary. Yes, it will likely cost more than it did the last time. As for house values, I have a difficult time believing that a home's value would decrease further on this news. Having a septic tank has already diminished the value of our homes. On the other hand, I don't think it would be possible to recoup the $12,000 - $15,000 it will take to connect us to the city sewer line. I have not yet researched what options are available for disposing of septic tank waste. I can assure you that I will and I'll begin a new thread with that information. Finally, what benefit is there in bashing the employees of CWL? The culture of cruelty and just plain meanness represented on these Jonesboro topix forums is really disturbing. I shudder to think what someone considering a move to our fair city would determine about our community by reading these boards! I don't think it speaks well of us at all. (Monday Nov 23 | post #24)
Better still: Watch as many of them as you can. And listen to some PBS and maybe some A.M. radio talk stations for a while. Read the Jonesboro Sun (do your best with the typos and grammatical errors,) read the NYT, check out Time magazine, etc. Are you familiar with Jim Lehrer on PBS or have you heard of NPR? It is by listening to ALL of these voices, having discussions with our friends and colleagues, and listening to people talk in line at the grocery store, that we can formulate our own INFORMED OPINIONS. Then we must grant that they are just that -- OUR PERSONAL INFORMED OPINION. I worry that so many folks are so damned dogmatic that they just roll up like an armadillo when someone else tries to share information with them. It is rather well known that my personal views lean to the left, but I wouldn't give up Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, or Andrew Clark for anything. They help me to either learn something new or to better formulate my opposition to what they are saying! It's awfully hard to learn from someone else when you can't stop shouting and name-calling long enough to hear them. (Saturday Nov 21 | post #12)
Conservatives to rewrite Bible
To continue for just a bit longer... Christ did admonish me to go forth and spread the message and I try to do so in a way that is not threatening or dogmatic remembering that it is not the appropriate forum at all times and in all situations. It breaks my heart to see and hear others using something as sacred as our connection to Him as a matter of hurting, humiliating, degrading, or even destroying a man, a family,a race, or a nation. There will always be someone producing a new translation of those Holy Words which have survived the centuries. For me it represents the chance that maybe one more person will learn the lessons which will ultimately improve his life, that of his family, his community, or his world. Having studied the Bible (NOT EVERY SINGLE WORD of every translation but quite a bit of it), having read the Koran, small parts of the Tipitaka, some of the sacred Native American writings, the Apocrypha, the Gnostic Gospels, and other materials in a personal quest for becoming my own best self, I continue to learn from my God as he speaks to me through the words and actions of the people around me every day AND through that still, small voice in my own soul. I pray a blessing for each of you. I hope that today you will see God in the smile of your child, in the sound of the gentle rain, in the kindness of a stranger, in the realization that you want to contribute to lifting up all of mankind, in the knowledge that praying for one who would hurt or mock you is in such desperate need of the very best you can give. Be well. Dream big. Do good work. jboro_charlie at live dot com (Tuesday Nov 17 | post #97)
Conservatives to rewrite Bible
Since I can't get a seat on one of the Sunday morning television talkfests, I guess I'll settle for throwing my two cents in here. I really love this sort of topic and the passions that it stirs in so many of us. Please note: These are my humble, personal opinions and I absolutely do not wish to change anyone else's feelings, beliefs, or personal moral imperatives. I am a self-proclaimed Christian who enjoys studying the bible and considering what the words mean TO ME Not a biblical scholar by any stretch of the imagination I have taken a few courses in religious studies in classroom settings, in churches and once in an eight month stay in a program where we studied and were lectured on scripture at least 8 hours a day , seven days a week. When I am seeking to gain a scriptural perspective on an issue, I usually depend on my copy of the Dakes' Annotated Bible (a King James translation with volumes of cross-references, translations, maps, and inevitably some editorialing by Dakes) and a New International Version. I was taught to pray for guidance when studying The Word and I will often stop my studies and then return to the same study again seeking, perhaps, yet another perspective than what I formed the fist time. Sometimes, I feel like I got it. I prayed, I studied, I considered and I understood. Many times, though, I find that I've only generated more questions. Having a comfortable relationship with my pastor and other ministers in my church, I like to ask them about the matter that I'm considering. I have family and even a couple of friends that often help me to see yet another perspective.. With all of that, or just a bit of it, I can search for that answer that is within me; the answer that is Mine. (Tuesday Nov 17 | post #96)
I definitely think "duh" above has a point. Having lived in a few college towns in the South and Southeast I find it LUDICROUS that this city has chosen to shoot itself in the foot with these arcane laws regarding alcohol and its consumption. Does anyone (even the permanently morally outraged) think that our streets are safer, that our citizens are healthier, or that we are maximizing our potential tax revenues by continuing to capitulate to those who want to have at least some modicum of control over your personal lifestyle choices!? I think we have enough churches (one of which I am a member) that our faith community can more than defend against any level of sin and degradation that might result from having a package store or two or being able to pick up a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon at Kroger when shopping for dinner! Obviously, the topic (wet vs. dry) just makes me ill! I won't be able to move away from this town for a short while. While I'm here I just really would like to see it begin to move towards being the city that it can AND should be for all of the Northeast Arkansas population. (Tuesday Nov 17 | post #14)
From way out here on the far left fringe, even my bleeding heart says "fry the bastard!" I admit that most times I find the death penalty nearly as repulsive as the crime, but when one human savagely rips another human apart like some wild animal, then I think they should be put down like we would any other wild animal that did something so heinous. As for the racial angle, my feeling is that Vance avoided death because of fears of race-based reprisals within our black communities. Now is the time that someone else take up where MLK left off and make it clear that it undercuts all racial progress up to this point when we, as a community, allow juries to nullify their own findings based on fear of racial backlash. We ARE going to feed, clothe and care for Vance better than many of the neediest in our communities for many, many years to come. I hope that those jurors will remember that when they are being asked to donate to the food pantry or a children's crisis center. THEY voted that WE should pay for this animal's upkeep for years. Shame on them! (Sunday Nov 15 | post #22)

believe i was trying to say "Movers-and shakers..." (Saturday Nov 14 | post #6)
Appears to me there's a lot of folks out driving fast and loose while talking and texting. seriously, though, without a specific area/neighborhood/ district or whatever you want to call it, there may never be enough energy gathered in one place to make it feel like nightlife. I keep hoping that the downtown efforts will pick up again. There's such great potential but Brickhouse and Godsey's just don't constitute an entertainment district. There's a lot of great looking buildings within those three or four blocks. Question is, does the "old money overs-and-shakers " crowd stand to benefit from it in any way? Without the clear support of the city's ancient ruling elite, ain't nothing gonna happen nowhere! (Saturday Nov 14 | post #5)
Can anyone help me find Jimbo Tidwell?
I am genuinely sorry that I have apparently misinterpreted your remarks. I apologize for misunderstanding. I felt as though I was being verbally attacked and became overly defensive. It is a fault of mine. I'll readily agree with you about some folks running their mouths (or fingers on the keyboard) particularly on threads where their knowledge is clearly lacking or their reason for participating in the discussion is simply to annoy (or even verbally assault) others. What's the point of that?! Aside from all that, This is apparently not a forum that will help me in my search to reconnect with an old friend. I guess if the good Lord means for our paths to cross again they will and I'm just going to leave it up to Him from here on out. Be well (Saturday Nov 14 | post #14)

Your attacks are puzzling to me. A bit of a snitty bird aren't you? Hope you end up with some happy on you some day. Of course, I realize that there are those whose joy is found in their spite and malice toward others. Pity. Wishing you joy. Oh, and please don't raise any children, there is enough meanness in this world already. Thanks bye! (Friday Nov 13 | post #12)
I commend you for your charitable thoughts and deeds. Further, I thank you for your considered and rational responses to my posts, even when (or especially when) I may not be able to stop my bleeding-heart liberal leanings from being expressed with appropriate restraint. It is from you and others holding similar views that I am able to learn and form my own opinions about current issues and events. I find myself looking forward to reading what you write, especially when someone resorts to calling you names or making accusations which they (we) cannot support. A friendly debate or healthy disagreement is good exercise for the mind of a seeker of higher knowledge and wisdom. You will probably never make me change my way of thinking, but you challenge me well to take ownership of and prepare to defend my opinions. Thanks a million. (Tuesday Nov 10 | post #114)
