Two arrested, 3 ounces of meth confiscated in Eureka bust

The irony, of course, is that your front page is covered with events that took place where? Oh, that's right. OUTSIDE Humboldt County. Make up your mind. If you are going to be a local grassroots activist organization, stay local. If you want to protest something in Oakland, go to Oakland. If you want to protest a new South Carolina law, go to South Carolina.  (Feb 13, 2010 | post #27)

FBI holds open house at Fortuna office

http://seattle.fbi .gov/ Perhaps the northernmost in California... Good to see that something is still going on in the Preston Center, though. Such a fancy building...  (Feb 3, 2010 | post #1)

Let it stand

To Mr. Cox, I have only this to say: If a corporation's stockholders or CEO or whomever decides to endorse whichever candidate or cause strikes their fancy, then the should be allowed... as individuals. Corporations are not people. They cannot eat or drink (though they do consume souls at a record pace), they cannot stand up and walk to the store. They cannot use the toilet (though they are certainly full of... Well, you get the idea). The rights of the People should remain just that. The rights of People. Not "business entities masquerading as human beings".  (Feb 2, 2010 | post #13)

Big, Bad and Blues

Hubba, hubba baby, there's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on. Bad jokes aside, I do regret that I am going to miss their performance. Caught them on their last stop up at HSU's East Gym so many years ago. They put on one heck of a show. If you enjoy lively music, do yourself a favor and get out to this show. That is... if you can stomach the door prices.  (Jan 11, 2010 | post #1)

To be or not to be -- fat/phat

I've been following the earthquake since it happened, as I just recently moved out of Eureka and still have family in the area. If you don't like the articles, no one has a gun to your head making you read them.  (Jan 10, 2010 | post #11)

@Say What: Did you notice this is in the Business section, not the actual news? Get over yourselves and your self-importance. You're not that special, no matter what your mothers told you. The author has valid points beyond her own weight. The affect of media on self-esteem issues is staggering.  (Jan 9, 2010 | post #4)

Battery charge dismissed against Gerard Butler

I would also like to ask our intrepid editor and/or reporter to note that the Topix title for this is "Battery charge dismissed against Gerard Butler." Not the same story, I suspect.  (Jan 5, 2010 | post #24)

Battery charge dismissed against Gerard Butler

I can't help but not ice that her first name is never given. Is it not known, or is she one of those celebrities with only one name, like Prince or Cher?  (Jan 5, 2010 | post #1)

Bah, humbug, Officer Grinch

Trying to argue with someone regarding the merits of faith versus atheism is, at best, an exercise not unlike beating one's head against a wall. The end result is the same: It feels so good when you stop. I suspect the deputy was doing his job, enforcing the law as it is written. Violations of the law are meant to be punished, and so I commend the deputy. Consider this, to our original letter writer: Park a few feet further down the road, walk that extra distance. Not only are you saving yourself from the ticket(s), but you are increasing the circulation in your body and helping to fight the lazy, obese state that most Americans have become.  (Jan 1, 2010 | post #36)

It's also where you go to file for custody of children, visitation, separations or annulments, restraining orders, guardianships or adoptions. It's the portion of the court that deals with family issues. Let me guess, you're one of the people that wants to make divorce illegal? http://opinion.lat imes.com/opinionla /2009/12/protect-m arriage-but-ban-di vorce.html  (Dec 31, 2009 | post #2)

Having worked for the Juvenile court, I can say that CASA does make a difference. Please, if you have the ability, look into volunteering.  (Dec 27, 2009 | post #1)
