Obama: America needs "soul searching" on gun violence

I've forgotten? I'm the only one in this thread that has brought it up. I'm the one that has said it was the problem with them buying their weapons. I'm the one thay has pointed out the flaw in the system. I'm the one that said the people that needed to report them didn't. I'm the one who said Virginia changed their system after that. Why don't you continue to ignore those facts and go on with your rants?  (Aug 15, 2012 | post #513)

Another post so full of fail. I didnt forget any of what you posted. What you forget is I just posted how the guns were legally or illegally bought and the reasons for which they were illegal. You say there is no enforcement of straw purchases? Is that why both men involved in getting the Columbine killers the TEC-9 pistol both got arrested and went to jail? As far as internet and private sales go youre semi right on one and completely wrong on the other. Internet sales through a FFL are subject to the same regulations as going into a gun store. But maybe if you read the link you posted, you would know that. But since youve proven to ignore whats in them thats no surprise. I have no clue why you brought up illegally bought weapons when Ive said all along thats the biggest problem with guns. You instead have chosen to focus on a very small segment that happened when they guns were bought according to the law. Its absolutely hilarious you call me an ignoramus who cant spell. Sorry that I didnt spell check and catch those whopping 3 words Ive mispelt. Guess Id rather misspell a few words here and there then not have a clue as to what Im debating. Coming from someone who doesnt know the difference between semi-automatic and automatic, a rifle and a shotgun, weapons designed for the civilian market and the military, etc, etc, etc. How can I say that system works? Look at the low number of links you posted. Have no clue why you included Whitman as that was nearly 50 years. The rest have all been explained to multiple times as to how or how those werent illegal purchases. The Sikh temple shooting and the Capitol Hill shootings were the only two where the weapons were bought legal. The other fours, laws were all broken when buying those weapons. Columbine they were too young which is a crime and all the weapons were bought through straw purchases, which is a crime. VT, Tucson, and Aurora happened because those that should have reported them as having mental illnesses didnt. All three committed a federal crime when buying those weapons.  (Aug 14, 2012 | post #507)

Obama: America needs "soul searching" on gun violence

Since you blatantly ignored it the first time let me recap for you. Columbine, all guns were bought illegally. Al the guns were bought through a straw buyer which is illegal in every state. Virginia Tech. He should have never been alowed to buy a gun because of his past history of mental illness. One of the questions on the federal background check specifically deals with this. He lied on the form therefore committed a crime when he bought the gun. The reporting sytsem has since been changed. Aurora. Another person with known mental problems werent which reported. Another case where the buyer committed a crime when buying the gun. Tuscon, another person who was known to have mental issues that werent reported. Another case where the buyer committed a crime when buying the gun. The Sikh temple shooting. gun was bought legally. Capitol Hill, weapons were purchased legally. So out of the ones you refereced, one them, guns were bought illegally. Three of them, a federal crime was committed during the purchase of said weapons and two were outright purchased legally. Compared to how often these types of incidents happen to how often shooting incident wth weapons purchased illegally, yes they are a small percentage of the problem. How many murders a DAY are committed with weapons purchased illegally with no background checks, no safety tests, no waiting periods etc. People ignore those and focus on isolated incidents. The number of those killed with legally purchased weapons is severely dwarfed by those purchasd illegaly. I dont care about the legal or sociopolitical aspects of it? If I didn I wouldnt be debating with you. Everytime one of these incidents happens all we hear about is tougher gun laws, tougher control etc. Yet you never hear the same about the hundreds of shootings daily with weapons purchased illegally with no controls what so ever. What you also conviently ignore about enforcement is it only handcuffs those that abide by said guns laws. Its been told to you before and here it goes again. Those intent on committing a crime with a gun dont care about gun laws. A giant majority of them dont go through what law abiding citizens do to be able to own firearmsands theres a good reason they dont. You sit here and tell me Im just a literal gun toter bent on rejecting any form of reform. Im someone who realizes what the problem is and I dont gloss that over. A overwhelming percentage of the time the system works. You choose to focus on the few isolated incidents where for whatever reason it didnt. But coming from soeone who had no clue about the type of weapons used in any of them, what else should I expect? Youve shown your ignorance multiple times and tats not going to change.  (Aug 12, 2012 | post #453)

On a side note, in three of the shootings you've brought up, all three assailants committed a federal crime when they bought their weapons by willfully lying on the background check form. All three knew the law and chose to break it to buy their weapons.  (Aug 11, 2012 | post #426)

The relative ease of buying a fire arm? You mean the safety class or test you have to pass? The back ground check you have to pass? All the other hoops you have to jump through? How can you prevent people from doing something they are bent on doing? If they have their hearts set on it, they will do it regardless. I dont fail to recognize the dangers of psychopaths having weapons. Just like I dont fail to recognize what happens when laws are so restrictive they handicap a citizens right to protect themselves. You crack me up. First you go on an unducated rant about the weapons used Aurora as military grade without even having a clue as to the weapons used and their history. Youve conviently ignored that over and over. Then you try to use a small fragment of incidents where legally purchased weapos were used by people that shouldnt have had them because none of them were reported to the right agencies as having mental issues. Had they been in the system they wouldnt have been able to buy them. Thats part of the enforcement you want. Enforcement that isnt going to stop someone who is intent on using a firearm to commit a crime which is the part you ignore.  (Aug 11, 2012 | post #424)

What part of the criminals dont abide by the gun laws do you not understand? How many crimes are committed by law abiding citizens with legally purchased weapons compared to criminals with illegally purchased weapons. The only people that gun laws effect are those that follow the law. This isnt about law abiding citizens going out and committing crimes and nothing happening to them. Go ask the law abiding citizens of Chicago and DC about how well those gun laws are enforced. You probably wont like their answers because it doesnt suit your argument.  (Aug 11, 2012 | post #419)

Yes murders and criminals can get guns. The differenc s laws arentgoing to stop them from doing so, which you so conviently ignore. Look at Chicago and DC as perfect examples. Both have some of the strictest gun laws in the States andoh have insany high murder rates. Explain to me how those restrictive gun laws have stopped criminals from doing what they do? Im going to grab a Snickers bar while I wait for your answer because its going to be awhile  (Aug 11, 2012 | post #400)

Youre right not every one wants to own a big truck or a gun. But who are you to tell the rest of us who may want those things that we cant have them? You talk about respecting other views then turn around and tell those of us who are for gun ownership how bad it is for us to want that. If you want us to respect other views on things then dont get mad we we ask the same.  (Aug 11, 2012 | post #399)

He's greeted like a rock star because he kisses ass and doesn't stand up for America. If Bush did the same things he would have been received the same way. Conservative Political News

Tension mounts over latest Obama campaign attack ad

If Romney hasnt paid his taxes, they are unpaid, we as citizens arent paying them. Of course his school records mean nothing to you, but to a lot of other people they mean a whole lot. By not releasing them what is he hiding? Is he hiding the money source ofhow we able to attend school? Is he hiding what nationality he used? People bring the school records up as one example of his failure to live up to his promises. All that transparency talk he did? We as Americans are still waiting for that transparency to happen.  (Aug 10, 2012 | post #150)
