Trooper Cleared In Shooting Of Dog

There are a lot of misinformed people on here who must not have seen or read the whole story. The dog that was shot was in the troopers yard trying to attack the troopers dog! Where is all the sympathy and support for the guy who had his dog chained to his back stoop like a responsible person who called the authorities and they said it could be several hours before they arrived? He tried other things and felt to save his dog from harm he was left with no other option. Guess what I'd do the same thing! Some of you look so dumb on here and its obvious you didn't pay attention to the whole story all you see is a headline.  (Dec 7, 2009 | post #45)

Trooper Cleared In Shooting Of Dog

Here's a thought people: blame the dog owner for not controlling his dog in the first place. I've got two beautiful yellow labs and because I love my dogs very much I control them and protect them. I have a fence, I've trained my dogs to be obedient, etc. I hold myself accountable, I've been a dog owner for 30 years and have NEVER had one of my dogs get loose, never. This dog is dead because first and foremost the dog owner couldn't control it and in my opinion the dog owner didn't care enough for the dog. I'd shoot your dog too if it was a threat to mine and pay the fine for firing a weapon in the city limits!  (Dec 7, 2009 | post #44)

I don't care why he ran but I hope they throw the book at him for doing it and putting innocent lives at risk!  (Dec 7, 2009 | post #4)

Clark To Recommend City Job Cuts

Ridiculous: you're right the Des Moines Fire Dept. is already understaffed, and currently runs at below OSHA and NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency) standards for firefighters. In my neighborhood by Fire Station 7 you can look in the window and see a lot of fire trucks, 3 garage doors full, only one of them is staffed by 3 firefighters not 4 like the standards state. Did you also know that it is LAW that there has to be 2 firefighters outside of the fire for every 2 inside fighting it? According to the law if everyone is out of your home and it is on fire the firefighters can't go in and fight the fire until there are as many people outside as there are inside. But the brilliant Rick Clark thinks saving some money from firefighters is a good idea instead of cutting spending from non-necessary areas. I will be at the next city council meeting and will demand his resignation!  (Dec 7, 2009 | post #16)

The city of Des Moines could cut about 55-jobs to help br...

Get Real: can you please explain to me how eliminating the unions would be the answer? Explain to me how the city's budget problems are the unions fault? I continue to fail to see how it is the unions fault. There are two sides to a coin and two sides to a negociation. Both sides try to find a beneficial advantage and eventually an MUTUALLY agreed upon contract is made. The real issue here is our city manager and council can't write a budget and their word (their signatures on the city contracts) aren't worth the paper they are printed on. The budget problems are NOT the unions fault!  (Dec 7, 2009 | post #4)

Culver Focuses On Budget

Culver is an idiot and in way over his head! When our state most needed a leader we got a wet noodle.  (Dec 7, 2009 | post #3)

Palin Holds Sioux City Book Signing

I think she is the GOP version of Obama. She's charismatic, exciting, fresh, something different, good looking, etc. All things that throw you off away from the topics. Our President now is showing his lack of experience and it is hurting his rep and our country. People fell for the aforementioned traits in him. I fear people will do the same with Palin. We don't need smoke and mirror political ploys by the big two parties what we need are real candidates, what we don't need are politicians and what we need is policy makers!  (Dec 7, 2009 | post #2)

ISU, Iowa State University, Budget Cuts

Obviously there would be rules in place just like at professional football games, et al. Like beer sales end at the end of the 3rd quarter, no glass only cups and plastic bottles, etc. No it is not against NCAA rules; the University of Colorado sells beer during their games and makes pretty good money doing it!  (Dec 7, 2009 | post #6)

ISU, Iowa State University, Budget Cuts

My plan to save the state universities is an easy one: sell beer at sports events! I'm serious! Ok, go to a football or b-ball game and buy a cup of beer at $6-7 a cup. Rough figures: cost of the beer and employee serving it $1, additional insurance $1: profit $5. Five bucks a beer. Now, Kinnick holds roughly 60k people if half have 2 beers that 60k beers sold which is at 5 buck profit each $300000 profit. If Iowa, ISU and UNI each have 6 home games and all average roughly the same beer sales that would be close to SIX MILLION a year just at football games! People are drinking before the games in the parking lots, smuggling in booze so why not capitalize on it!  (Dec 7, 2009 | post #5)

Iowa Man Charged In Incest Case Bonds Out Of Jail

I really don't agree with the judge allowing bail in this case, this person is accused of some pretty horrific things. He should be behind bars until his trial and not a possible threat to society.  (Dec 7, 2009 | post #11)
