DOT Holds Public Hearing Concerning Western Loop

Not trying to sound mean, but this loop has been in the plans for at least 7-8 years maybe more. Therefore, someone saying they moved two years ago is not an issue of being blindsided, but not paying attention of what's going on in Greensboro.  (Oct 26, 2010 | post #5)

Greensboro Police Officer Involved in Early Morning Shooting

Let's look at the historical context of these things that you have mentioned. United Negro College Fund is open to all ethnicities that apply for the scholorship and the stipulations (go to a certain school). Historically Black College/University (HBCU)-these were set up because black people, who mostly lived in the south, were not allowed to go to other schools. Anyone can attend an HBCU and can get a minority scholorship if they are the minority at the school. Yes, a white man can get a minority scholorship. Black Entertainment Television (BET)- Although I'm not a big fan of BET, it serves it's purpose of playing certain programing that most likely would not be shown on the "major" networks. Turn on TV and what do you see? Mostly white. Ebony and other "Black Magazines"- Just something else black people can look at to see someone that looks like them and brings up issues specific to a certain culture. Look at People magazine, for example and what do you see? NAACP has people of all ethnicities and it's not about hating white people. While I may not agree with everything they do, it is not about hating white people. Lastly, why is this being discussed? Simply because the person was a black man shot in a black area, who probably had a mental disorder. Why all the hate?  (Oct 22, 2010 | post #57)

Greensboro Police Officer Involved in Early Morning Shooting

I'm waiting to hear that the guy has some type of mental illness (paranoid schizophrenia) or possibly drug induced schizophrenia. Normal people react to being tazed and are not out in the middle of the night yelling in the middle of the street.  (Oct 22, 2010 | post #33)

Student Suspended For Wearing Breast Cancer Awareness T-S...

I'm all for supporting breast cancer, but NOT for wearing shirts that say "I love boobies" in school. Like others have said. There are so many other ways he can support breast cancer with out wearing that particular shirt in school. Some of you are acting like it's completly different if a girl wears a shirt that says, "I love balls", but if this is allowed then all kinds of things will have to be allowed in the name of supporting a cause. I agree that he is testing limits. For the person that said everyone has offensive shirts. I am NOT part of that group. I often get complliments on my clothes, but I do not buy clothes with words that can be deemed inappropriate, skulls, or other symbols that may be considered offensive.  (Oct 17, 2010 | post #38)

State Ends Existing End-of-Grade Testing Policy

There are so many things I could say about the state of education. I agree that concerned parents can make a mediocre school much better. If there is something one of you want changed in the curriculum don't simply go to the teacher, since they don't have as much freedom as some people think they do. Furthermore, take the time to teach what you know to children. No we're not all math, science, english, history experts but do what you all can. Find out what is going on at the school. I am amazed how little some parents know about FREE tutoring offered by the teachers at their own school, or what day report cards, progress reports, etc come out. If parents don't make school important then the children will not either. tiredofliberals, although your screen name is horrible I agree with everything you stated.  (Oct 8, 2010 | post #16)

Rep. Larry Brown Criticized for Gay Slurs In E-mail

Career definately not over. Many people do not care and/or have similar feelings as him, but just don't express them out loud or in work emails that can be leaked to the public media.  (Oct 5, 2010 | post #5)

Belk to Undergo $70 Million Rebranding

Spending 70 million to simply change the logo? Changing them all within a year? What is the big rush? Changing the font, or whether the letters are uppercase or lowercase isn't going to impact that much.  (Oct 3, 2010 | post #6)

Poll: More State Residents Unhappy With Who's in Washington

The most likely reason Hagan's approval ratings are not given is because Burr is running for office this year and not Hagan. When she was running against Dole there were polls about her.  (Sep 24, 2010 | post #6)

Hurricane Earl bears down on East Coast, bringing island ...

They survive. Not as bad as you think. Houses in that area SHOULD be built a little higher to allow for high waves and flooding. People get used to hurricanes brushing up against the coast. What the coast is getting is basically a lil tropical storm. Not the effects of a direct hit of a hurricane. Now the carribean islands that's something different.  (Sep 1, 2010 | post #2)
