1) Reasoned debate does not include name calling. 2) I think you've been listening to the OTT crowd for too long to appreciate, let alone recognize a civilized discourse. 3) You need to demand that some of your political wannabe crowd provide real and reasoned opposition when their philosophy is challenged, instead of employing the same old and tired scaremongering tactics . Do you really not see how bitter and hateful political debate has become? Or is it that perhaps you approve of the Fox approach?  (Jan 9, 2011 | post #152)

Are Sarah Palin and her ilk to blame for this sad sorry incident? This man is obviously mentally deranged, and given the very relaxed gun laws, he was a bomb just waiting to explode. The waaay over the top political rhetoric didn't help, it is in fact, nothing less than incendiary, and while far from solely to blame for this horror, sorry Ms Palin, 'Sincere condolences" as a response just doesn't cut it. Back off, and offer reasoned arguments for your points of view, instead of arrant ignorant nonsense. BTW: A real UHC system might help to solve some of the problems associated mental ilness....No???  (Jan 9, 2011 | post #137)

Oil Leak in Gulf of Mexico May Be 5 Times Initial Estimate

Republican? As in Haliburton? Haven't you noticed, their oily paws are all over this. They OWN part of BP!!! Besides, its a cartel, and BP will do exactly as Exxon did after the Alaska spill. Promise the moon, and then when the fuss dies down. litigate. Did you know that Exxon spent 18 years in litigation after the Alaska incident, ended up paying half of the original judgement, and took no responsibility for the long term effects of the spill? Did you know that the oil is still present in Alaska beaches and the wildlife? Hve you any idea as to hown many lives have been ruined and how many people are still paying a price for something which was not of their doing? Before you jump all over BP as the sole bad guys, you should know that the industry is a cartel and BP is doing nothing the other major companies are not doing. Safety last, and, oh goody, now we have a good excuse to jack the prices up. We have little recourse in the face of the oil giants, except to cut our consumption. We can all, with a bit of thought and planning, do just that. Course, if we could be arsed, we could stop with the knee jerk reactions to whatever crap we are being fed, and start paying attention and making a LOT more noise about what some of these magacorporations are doing. It's sooo easy to just blame it on the President, but in the face of the heavy lobbying and the opposition of vested interests, what would you suggest he can do?  (May 3, 2010 | post #60)

Oil Spill Spreads, Napolitano Says BP Liability Waivers...

This should be no surprise to anyone who has followed the aftermath of the Exxon Valdez incident. They made all the appropriate noises about paying for the cleanup and all compensation to those who suffered a loss of livlihood. In the end, they stalled, litigated for 18 years, had their settlement judgement cut in half, and limited their liability to the immediate aftermath, but did nothing to compensate for the long term effects of the spill. When are we going to wake up, and lose the 'Drill baby drill' mentality?  (May 3, 2010 | post #1)

Mao Asada

Kim Yu-Na to Be Dethroned at 2010 Figure Skating Worlds?

Asada won, in spite of having to work with poor choreography and music that was much too dark and heavy. To her credit, she did a superb job of skating in time with it. The Gala now..... That was a dazzling performance, the best I've ever seen, and I hope she is assertive with her coaches next year, and demands music and choreography more in keeping with the great personality she showed in the Gala. She looked like a completely different girl.  (Mar 28, 2010 | post #110)

Hey Vladislav Did you see Mao at the Gala? Some 'technician ' eh ? Maybe all that Russian coaching is too dark and ponderous for her.  (Mar 28, 2010 | post #2)

Lysacek too chicken to put title on line

Uh, hate to be the one to break it to you Stefanya, but Evgeni isn't at Worlds either. I know he's injured....his pride that is ! BTW: Can you come up with another description of Evan.... this one is getting boring !!!  (Mar 25, 2010 | post #13)

Olympic Winter Games

Lysacek too chicken to put title on line

Dunno nuka, from what I've seen so far, the event is looking pretty good. The men's short was better than at the Games, Takahashi was incandescent, Chan superb, Abbott perfect, and the second Japanese skater ( sorry, have forgetton his name) a joy to watch, even Joubert, who couldn't find his feet at the Games was vastly improved. Without the intense pressure of the Games, we are seeing what some of these skaters are capable of. After all, isn't that what the fans want to see.....the best skating ?  (Mar 25, 2010 | post #12)

Mao Asada

Kim Yu-Na to Be Dethroned at 2010 Figure Skating Worlds?

If Yu Na wants to win, she will! At her best, and she has been consistently so for quite awhile, no one is capable of beating her. Yes, Asada is a great skater, and yes, Nagasu will be a world champion someday, but that day has not yet arrived. Yu Na has the magic combination of athleticism and artistry, and is far and away, the best ever.....at least, so far!  (Mar 25, 2010 | post #70)

Evan Lysacek wins Olympic gold, upsets defending champ Ev...

What a sense of entitlement the Russians have. Well, I guess it's no wonder, as for so many years they managed to dope, buy and barter their way to the top. Evan won, plain and simple, his program was the best of the night, by far, and Plushenko is demonstrating his lack of sportsmanship, with his comments and if that wasn't enough, awarding himself platinum!! Still no wonder, if you read the comments in Pravda on the event and the Games in general, one is forced to conclude that good sportsmanship is non existant in Russia.  (Mar 4, 2010 | post #13)
