Dimmig Appliance Closing?

How did we digress soo far from the original topic? Dimmig has been a great supporter of local economy for a long time and to lose another locally owned and operated member is a shame. Profits from the big boys go to out of town owners and will only further propel Quakertown's spiral downfall.  (May 21, 2012 | post #70)

Dam (sic) Good Cafe

My wife and I tried Dam Good Cafe last week-end and were impressed with their sandwiches. Everything was fresh, tasty and the service was good. Not perfect, but good. It is a place we will try again and just might try an entree. Thought it was chintzy serving drinks in paper cups with lids but refills were offered. Overall, a very good experience and we wish them well. Nice touch that one of their employees (Wendy?) is monitoring this site. Always good to preempt some of the hot head naysayers here! As stated, Dam is the owners last night according to their business card.  (Apr 8, 2011 | post #53)

Arbys Closing

Hardee's is the fast food place I miss the most. Excellent for breakfast and their new Hamburgers are the best of any the fast food places and even better than many of the finer restaurant burgers. Plus all at a price that will not break the bank!  (Feb 26, 2011 | post #29)

Andrews Deli closing

We just had lunch this afternoon and Andrews. While the service was very slow, the food ranged from very good to excellent. They had a large party in the back of 18 tables which seemed to overwhelm them somewhat. I asked about the closing and the server stated that they were adding a full bar where the deli counter is at currently. The menu would remain the same. The pickle bar was was still open on this visit so I doubt there is a health issue with that. After leaving there, headed to Yum-Yum for desert and a quick shopping trip to Sines. Life is good!  (Dec 22, 2010 | post #6)

boyers gone, now what & when?

Now that the Bakery Outlet Store relocated to Second Street, I really do not care any more about having a grocery store like Boyers. Only used Boyers for milk, bread and the occasional quick pick up items and the Bakery Outlet has most of them.  (Dec 8, 2010 | post #3)

Internet Service Providers

We have enter.net DSL service in Richland Township. During the past 6 years or so, we can count the number of service interruptions on one hand and none of them were for a protracted amount of time. Seems like they strive to deliver more than you expect, even down to fantastic technical support.  (Dec 7, 2010 | post #5)

Ready to Take Back America?

Exactly what are the Socialist agenda that has been put forth by Obama?? Health care is still in the control of private insurance companies, banks were bailed out to keep the money supply rolling (remember, that was put in play by Bush), Auto companies are paying back most of their loans. By private economists, it looks like the 700 Trillion bailout for all of the banks, auto companies and insurance companies will cost the tax payer less than 50 billion dollars on the pessimist side and may even return a small profit on the optimistic side. Looks like a big win for the working people to me.  (Oct 30, 2010 | post #19)

Roma Pizza

I agree that Quakertown needs a good place dedicated to steaks. I also forgot about Rossi's. Their Calzone is one of the best in the area. While the Pizza is good and very consistent, there are better ones here, albeit without the consistency of quality and taste.  (Oct 30, 2010 | post #25)

Local business

As always after you post something you remember a few more good things. We use Enter.net as our ISP for over ten years and I can count the down times on one hand over this period. We have purchased most of our meats from Frederick's at the Q-Mart and they have never disappointed us. For breakfast, we normally make the drive to Coopersburg Diner. Is Adult World really a good place????  (Oct 20, 2010 | post #22)

Local business

I am surprised by that. I had been with Johnson & Neubert for many years and after they were bought by Altemos we had nothing but problems. I noticed a familiar face behind the wheel of Walker Fuels and he said many of the old folks from J&N were working for Walker. I switched over to them 6 years ago and had nothing but explemary service since. They repalced my boiler for far less than the other two estimates a few years back.  (Oct 20, 2010 | post #21)

Local business

As a continuation under a new heading, lets make a list of great local companies. I understand that some national names are operated by locals, but I am more interested in the local named businesses. I personally strive to spend at least $200 per month at these establishments. Some of my favorites are Yum Yum Donuts, Sines 5&10, Franks Pizza, Bakery Outlet (wonderful milk along with the discounted breads), Alcamos Restaurant, Dans Garage, Benners Hardware, Walker Fuels (heating oil and service, Hinkle & Sons for trash pick-up. Any more suggestions????  (Oct 18, 2010 | post #1)

What is going in Boyer's Store?

Rumor mill has it that a discount no thrills store will be coming in soon. In some states down south, Rite-Aid operates a Sav-A-Lot food store in a larger store than the current Rite-Aid but I do not think that is in the cards for this location. I would think that another grocery store would open there in the near future.  (Oct 18, 2010 | post #2)

Quakertown Post Office

The Post Awful must be a horrific place to work at. I have overheard too many of the so called managers berating their employees over trivial issues. The term toxic managers must have been coined with postal management in mind. I have to deal with them on a daily basis and I truly have sympathy for the workers  (Oct 15, 2010 | post #15)

Roma Pizza

It is hard for me to try a new pizza place while there are a few excellent long established ones in Quakertown. Franks Pizza on 309 next to 7-11, Alcamos in Richlandtown and Giovannis on 309 come to mind.  (Oct 15, 2010 | post #4)

Murphy has shown that he is fair minded and not a wing-nut for the party. Fitzpatrick would love to return us to the Bush-Rove era and we all know how that turned out!! The richest amongst us would love that while the majority wwould suffer.  (Oct 15, 2010 | post #22)
