It doesn't really matter what people's opinions on this are because in a few years, gay marriage WILL be legal in all 50 states--even in my homestate of Mississippi! I can't wait for that day. What is right is not always the popular opinion. About half a century ago, the popular opinion was that there should be a separation a races. Just because that is what many people believed does not make it right.  (Mar 1, 2012 | post #10)

If you believe that God created everyone, then He made gay people too. Gay people are naturally attracted to each other. It's just as beautiful as straight love. And besides, this is a civil issue. It's not religious. Civil marriage and religious marriage are completely SEPARATE institutions. There is no logical reason to deny a same-sex couple a civil marriage under the LAW. It has nothing to do with your church.  (Feb 11, 2012 | post #7)

Thank you so much! It's reading posts from young people like yourself that gives me hope that one day America will truly see equal rights for all its citizens! You are our future, so be strong! :)  (Feb 6, 2012 | post #19)

Well, frankly, no one is asking you. I honestly don't care what you think. And I think it's outright un-American and DISGUSTING that some people are denied rights and federal protections just other people like you think they shouldn't get them.  (Feb 6, 2012 | post #49)

It does not matter that there are constitutional amendments. Those laws will be overturned in my lifetime. People's minds are changing rapidly on this issue. When I mentioned rights given to married couples, I was referring to the 1138 rights and protections ranging from tax exemptions to hospital visitations.  (Jan 30, 2012 | post #47)

I can GUARANTEE you without an ounce of doubt that same-sex marriage will soon enough be legal in all 50 states. Until 1967, in many states it was illegal for a black person to marry a white person. Just because something is the popular opinion, does not mean it's right. It is plain ignorant and selfish to deny a couple the same rights and protections under the LAW just because you disagree with it personally. It really isn't anyone else's business except for their own.  (Jan 28, 2012 | post #44)

Marriage has NOT always been between a husband and wife. It has also been between 1 husband and many wives, between 1 wife and many husbands, between several wives and several husbands, between 1 wife and another wife, between 1 wife and a deceased person, and many many other different match-ups as well. And the fact that the words "husband " and "wife" exist in every language does not add to your argument any at all. A husband is the male counterpart of marriage and a wife is the female counterpart. In gay marriage there just happens to be two husbands or two wives. They are still the same words. But I agree that marriage is a cultural institution. But in America (and most other countries), it is also a civil institution. And separately, it is also a religious institution. These are three completely separate institutions of marriage. They may interconnect in certain ways but they have definite boundaries still. CIVIL marriage (and therefore social marriage) should be allowed for same-sex couples in a country where we are all equal citizens. Each individual church will still be able to decide who they want to recognize in their bridal registries.  (Jan 27, 2012 | post #42)

It's a word. Words change. And the word marriage has already changed countless times throughout history. It has even held many different definitions simultaneously (since each culture defines it differently). There is no reason to deny same-sex couples the same rights as straight couples just because people have a problem with semantics.  (Jan 26, 2012 | post #40)

Guys who are gay find it completely natural to be with another guy. You should get over your prejudices.  (Jan 26, 2012 | post #36)

Gun Control - Greenville, MS

If you made owning a gun illegal, then the only people who would have guns would be the criminals! Because criminals will be criminals and they will find a way around it. Then innocent citizens (a.k.a. "not criminals") would have no means to protect themselves. I do agree that there should be vigorous training for those allowed to carry guns though.  (Jan 25, 2012 | post #1)
