There may be some who wish to change, but how do you sort them out from the ones who don't? With the convicted ones committing additional crimes its hard to tell who would be safe and who wouldn't. I have been in trouble myself in my lifetime and I understand the stigma of not getting a 2nd chance to prove your self.. But if they truly wish to do right, then they will understand they must gain trust first before they can be accepted as rehabilitated. And they do that by being open and not placing themselves in positions to make others uncomfortable. The trust will come in time. No, they will never be greeted with open arms at the prison gates upon their release or arrival in town. But my mother always said not to do anything you may be ashamed of. I met a man that had a conviction and I went to the Courthouse and spoke with someone at the sheriffs dept to get the real story. I was told they guy was fine.. He was convicted as a young man, only 19, for having relations with a 17 yr old - of course he didnt know she was only 17. But it made me feel better to hear the officer tell me the guy was ok. He never wanted to be alone around the kids, never spent the night when the kids were home and was very conscious of positions he placed himself in. That showed he was a responsible person and understood how some people may feel. I have no problem with that. But some want to hide it and not even tell someone they may be involved with. If people dont check out the person they are with you may inadvertently place your children in harms way. (Sunday | post #48)

I would say I would have to agree with you.. If you go online to the registered offender site you can see how many and who are all in this area and what their original charge was. I would say over 75% easily was for acts committed against children. be they small children or teens. Either way, they are a predator and need to be controlled for our children's safety. I for one fear every day that I see children all over the US go missing and wind up dead somewhere that the registration system is not enough. It is not a deterrent for some offenders. Others sit at home and satisfy themselves with online porn but some are more dangerous. I understand that there are some false cases out there, but just like Domestic Violence, there are more cases that go unreported or not investigated than there are false reports. If a person does not place themselves in the position to be accused then they have nothing to worry about. I do not allow my daughter to spend the night at other friends houses, if her and her friends want to get together they can do it at the skating rink or movies or at the mall under supervision. We have to protect our children. People can say I am over protective, but my child will not become a statistic. (Saturday Dec 19 | post #32)

Have ya'll seen today's paper? Cooksey made the front page again... According to the talley for 2 days in 2 different Courts in Texas the total he got from his clients was $40,000.. And he was ringing a bell for the Salvation Army on State Line Ave. I wonder how much more money will turn up that has been paid to him.. WB, I am pretty sure you will not get confirmation on your findings. The things you stated were were kind of personal and it would not be smart of her to comment on the truth or falseness of them in a public forum that may be able to be used against her son. If you are confident in your findings then you should be satisfied in that fact. But any attorney will tell you don't admit to anything.
