If it wasn't so sad, such small town concern over HS athletics would be funny. If you folks put half the thought and effort into education instead of athletics, you might not see our small towns dying as the well-paying jobs disappear forever. Yes, they're gone forever.  (Oct 23, 2010 | post #40)

Google them. I think you'll find its a minority-owned company (an LLC) based in Lexington, TN. Also may have previous and current ties to JCI. Wouldn't be surprised if they own and occupy former JCI facilities in the Jackson area. As to taxpayer money involved: probably, since the government encourages minority-owned businesses through various preferential tax treatments. The irony is that a liberal government policy that gives preferential treatment to minority-owned businesses could very well be what helps keep the Athens plant open.  (Jul 31, 2010 | post #4)

I just looked at Topix in Cadiz, Ky regarding their JCI plant closure a few years ago. One person predicted in 2008 that the Athens plant was next, by 2013. He was right but off by three years. Another person, saying he (or she) was an employee at the Athens plant, said (also in 2008) the Athens plant would be next, and hoped it would be! I guess these folks could see what was coming, but I bet they weren't the only ones who saw trouble on the horizon.  (Jul 31, 2010 | post #6)

Joe Guy won~ Guy vs Guy for Sheriff

I voted for David, but he will lose two-to-one. It's really very simple: Here in McMinn County, most people vote the party, and the party here is the Republican party. A Democrat or two may hold an office, but that's the exception. Folks who live here know the majority of Democrats live in the less populated areas in the eastern part of the county and the majority of the Republicans live in the more populous western part of the county, and that fact alone ensures Republicans will hold the vast majority of the county offices, especially that of Sheriff. These are just plan facts.  (Jul 31, 2010 | post #498)
