Roman Catholic church only true church, says Vatican

Anthony MN You have thus far been very sincere and we have had great dialogue. Thus I will answer any question you yourself have. Please do not ask me any questions that others ask you to ask me. Take Care.I have true answers but it will do nothing but reinforce some's ides of me. Nick  (Jan 27, 2012 | post #330637)

I should have clarified what the Catholic priest said was extremely comforting beyond words when I could not sleep because I thought I was going to die.It tuned out I had curable Hodgkins, thank God.  (Jan 17, 2012 | post #5287)

I cannot speak for the Catholic Church. I have found the priests I have met to be very compassionate. One in parrticular said something when I was told I would die with cancer. (It proved to be curable)I was not Catholic at the time.I know that in the Orthodox Church they take into consideration the mitigating circumstances such as mental illness, etc. The reason why the Orthodox Church normally condemns suicide is that this person has willingly chosen to destroy the gift of life that God has given him or her. It is ultimately a defiant and final act of separating oneself from God, a final assault again faith, hope and love. In the case of the mentally ill who commit suicide, however, the circumstances (medication, etc) may indicate that they are not willfully choosing to deny God's gift. It is the prerogative of the bishop, informed of all the details of the matter, to decide how such a situation will be handled. In these cases, the Orthodox may conclude that these people are victims of the fallenness of creation — the very reason Christ became incarnate and went to the cross. Accordingly, the bishop may grant that a some form of funeral service and prayers be offered Catholics could certainly answer this question better than me . From what I have found "However, in the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church, Number 2283 states, "We should not despair of the eternal salvation of persons who have taken their own lives. By ways known to him alone, God can provide the opportunity for salutary repentance. The Church prays for persons who have taken their own lives."  (Jan 17, 2012 | post #5286)

Please be careful what you share here, My wife and I shared things with REgina M here in the name of Christian Unity and she used it to violate our confidence and attack us with it in another forum. We are Orthodox and came here because we really wanted to share with Catholics and others here. Please do not make the same mistake. Post but please do not share any personal experiences about how you came into your faith.I will not be returning here. It was stupid of me to trust someone on the computer.I guess it was out of hope.  (Jan 16, 2012 | post #5253)

That is not really an accurate definition of sin. In the Orthodox Church sin is defined as missing the target, ie the target of being who we should be, which is as close to the likeness of Christ as possible.Sin comes from the passions which also, by deception, lead us away from innerpeace.God does not send us to hell. Our sin distances ourself from our relationship with God. Also. please remember, our sind are forgiven because of Christ if we believe in him and our lifestyle shows this (works)If it does not when we die we still feel the presence of God but the fire that is His goodness we instead feel as burning.I tried to rxplain something very well thought out in a few sentences. As you can see, though, a lot more thought was put into this than God punishes us for sin by sending us to hell.  (Jan 15, 2012 | post #5201)
