Parents help child cheat on homework, create artifical cr...

Read the articles above. At the first meeting the parents say the poem was an assignment. The second article says it was not and the parent involved was a teacher at the school. As I have said, I believe this entire exercise was orchestrated entirely to rile up the non-religious parent who was threatening to complain to the ACLU.  (Feb 8, 2013 | post #21)

School Removes God From First-Grader's Poem

http://www.hickory record.com/mcdowel l_news/news/articl e_1f86e716-65a9-11 e2-896a-001a4bcf68 78.html “The poem was produced (at least in part) by one of the teachers at the school. The poem was not a class assignment and it was not done at school.” While not entirely false, the teacher who helped the student create the poem also happens to be her mother. Those present at December’s Board of Education meeting heard Crawley describe how the poem was created. Crawley stated that her daughter was asked to write a poem for the Veterans Day program by her teacher (who isn’t Crawley). When the youngster became frustrated after trying to write the poem on her own, Crawley, along with the rest of the family, helped the young girl construct the poem and make it her own style. http://www.hickory record.com/mcdowel l_news/news/articl e_4565e818-3d9c-11 e2-a9af-001a4bcf68 78.html To clarify how the poem came about, the mother of the little girl, Renata Crawley, with the support of her husband, Greg Crawley, spoke to the board and those at the meeting about their feelings concerning the incident. During the public comment portion of Monday’s meeting, Crawley explained that her daughter was assigned to write about her grandfathers -- who both served in the armed forces -- for the school’s Veterans Day program. She stated that after her daughter was assigned to write the poem, the youngster became frustrated. To help ease some of that tension, Renata, along with the rest of the family, helped the young girl construct the poem. “My daughter struggled writing about her grandfathers when writing this poem,” stated Renata. “She is 6 years old and does not know much about war or the armed forces.” Crawley said the family worked together on the poem, with her 6-year-old daughter assisting with rhyming words to make the poem “her style.” While creating the poem, the family decided to write about the little girl’s grandfather, Bud, who carried a prayer stone to Vietnam with him, which inspired the now controversial lines that would later be censored.  (Feb 8, 2013 | post #85)

But you still choose to ignore one basic fact that has been stated over and over. The child DID NOT WRITE this poem. It was stated before the school board several times. Her own mother admitted to writing it. The child just added some rhyming words. This was orchestrated and carried out just to raise someone's ire enough to complain and get this slime ball rolling so we would wind up with the controversy we have today. This was and is a creation of the Christian right with one purpose. Let's not pretend otherwise.  (Feb 8, 2013 | post #84)

McDowell Board of Education at it......AGAIN!

All this over some church convincing parents to lie and cheat on their kid's homework so they could get on Fox again. This is sad. Let's break out the Koran at the next school board meeting and see how far the religious freedom goes then. Just another attempt by the Christian majority to trample others rights.  (Feb 8, 2013 | post #4)

Well, there they go again. Apparently now a teacher wrote the poem, no wait a parent. No a teacher. Well at any rate not the kid. What a sad statement on the intelligence of McDowell county. Headline should have read: Local Christians put fingers in ears. Picture of belligerent ignoramus. Picture caption: LALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU !!!! http://www.hickory record.com/mcdowel l_news/news/articl e_1f86e716-65a9-11 e2-896a-001a4bcf68 78.html?mode=story P.S. What kinda nut keeps a rock in a safe deposit box? Oh yeah, the same kind that believes a book of oral history and fairy tales are real.  (Jan 23, 2013 | post #12)

American Taliban leader to publish autobiography

I'm sure all the people at New Manna and Crossroads will make this a best seller. It will be right up there with Bill O and Glen Becks books. http://wlos.com/sh ared/news/features /top-stories/stori es/wlos_man-caught -olympic-bomber-re acts-word-autobiog raphy-10189.shtml  (Jan 11, 2013 | post #1)

Religious nuts gather, mob looks for someone to lynch.

And, I guess to be truthful, the title was. Touche. The firecracker remark was pretty bad also. I'll stick by the part about the bedfellows though. That's just too good to lose.  (Jan 2, 2013 | post #24)

Actually, no. I wanted to start a discussion about social engineering. There are people out there who manipulate the less intelligent among us to their own purposes. This technique has been used by Christianity since the dark ages to "fleece the flock" so to speak. Careers and fortunes are made from force feeding people religion from birth. I grew up in this environment. Now it has taken on a life of it's own and due to the 24 hour news cycle and the internet there are those that will manipulate the media for their purpose and profit. I am merely stating this is the case here. The fact is the little girl did not even write that poem. Her parents did. Whether they were helping her cheat on her homework or following an instigators instructions will probably never be known. As for the letter about the manger scene, have you ever heard of Occam's razor? Google that and think about it.  (Jan 2, 2013 | post #21)

End the leeches on America

Make up your mind. Copy and paste, don't copy and paste. You are obsessed with Obama. It's funny to sit back and read your comments and realize how much of your life you spend on him. Have you ever though of that? You should get help. I recall when Rev. Wright stated his opinions you certainly sang a different tune. I don't give a rats ass which side is doing it, religion and politics should be separate. I see you brought your drooling twin with you. You two deserve one another. Serves me right for trying to have an intelligent conversation on this forum.  (Jan 2, 2013 | post #14)

You are mistaken. The entire point I was trying to make with this post was that no atheists are involved with any of this. I could care less about a nativity scene on a courthouse lawn. It is nothing, a group of plastic figures. Like a cross, rosary beads or a statue of the virgin Mary, it has meaning to you, not to me. I do hope that someone will ask for a Yule or kwanzaa display next year to see how the county commissioners respond. I doubt anyone will given the lynch mob mentality this has stirred up. I'm not sure that had an atheist spoken up, what Mr. Soretoe above or some variant might not have happened. One of the churches or someone associated with this is responsible for both of these publicity stunts. The parents of the child admitted in front of the school board to writing the poem, she didn't even write it. I am sure as well that someone from one of the churches sent the letter about the nativity scene as well. No one is trying to squash your free speech or religious liberty. This is just me stating my beliefs. You can do or say anything you want, I could care less. If you want to make a post on here with that title , go right ahead. If you see my beliefs as violating yours then says a lot about the situation, does it not?  (Jan 2, 2013 | post #18)

It's hard to tell whether you are just being sarcastic or are serious. In spite of your other posts on this forum, I'll hope for the former. Although many Christians are intolerant of any other beliefs than their own (including different variants of Christianity), I would venture to say that Jesus would not approve. It never stopped them before, I don't suppose it would now.  (Jan 2, 2013 | post #17)

No, the most ignorant resort to ridiculous straw man comments that have nothing to do with the conversation at hand. I suppose you believe it is more intelligent to type in an entire comment rather than copy and paste it from the source? You are truly unworthy of an argument. Please seek life elsewhere. Go burn a mosque somewhere or harass people of color. You bore me.  (Dec 31, 2012 | post #11)
