Commuter train plan is alive and well, supporters say

The real interesting part of this that seems to be overlooked. Charlie Crist was one of the first governors to have his hand out when the "stimulus " money was promised. Now the legislators are like sharks when the water has been chummed! This is going to cost a lot of money no matter how you slice it and where is the money coming from? It is coming from our children and great grand children. I'll never see the bill but it **** that future generations will. There have been comments that todays republicans are just socialists light. Charlie and his minions in Tallahassee are on the front page of the rhino book of politics!  (Jun 29, 2009 | post #71)

I wish I had the money for the ultimate survivalist retreat on a mountain in New York there is an old missle silo that has been converted to a luxury digs private with its own runway and massive underground. To all the gloom and doom nuts out there, instead of allowing the government trillions of dollars for who knows what, keep your money and buy a bunker! If the end is coming now is the time to prepare!  (Jun 28, 2009 | post #11)

Consumer Reports: Toyota ranked most reliable

That is exactly the point, all that energy has to go somewhere. If the energy can't be absorbed by the car it is transmitted to the occupants. I'm not making this stuff up. The force of a crash at 30 mph or greater is more survivable in a car equipped with crumple zones, a heavier vehicle that survives the crash transmits the energy of the crash to the occupants and causes greater injuries  (Jun 27, 2009 | post #1310)

Hometown Democracy: The Eve of Destruction?

Not news to the people that I know there, living in condos where the sill plates are rotting and the fascia is falling apart. The place was built in typical Disney fashion, all show no substance  (Jun 26, 2009 | post #53)

Hometown Democracy: The Eve of Destruction?

If you looked at this article you would see that is exactly what this community did. The unfortunate part is that the community with limited resources and knowledge have to battle large corporations and large government to get the point across. There are many examples of reasonable growth and development that enhances the area, but not in Florida. All you have to do is go to places like Celebration where tacky house and condos were built for riduculous amounts of money and now are in disrepari because they were poorly built. Greed and corrupt politicians are such the norm in Florida that anything else looks abnormal. There has to be a compromise between tacky growth and no growth.  (Jun 25, 2009 | post #28)

Hometown Democracy: The Eve of Destruction?

Growth in any area of Florida is controversial. The bigger question has to be responsible growth. All have seen the results of massive greed in Lake county and now with the economy in the tank so is Lake county. What is needed is a responsible plan and not one devised by greedy developers and equally greedy politicians. THere should be quaint areas of Florida and there is Miami for out of control growth Responsible growth looks at the use and potential use of natural resources and make a plan for increases in public services before the growth is approved  (Jun 25, 2009 | post #4)

AAA says gas prices may be nearing their peak

My proactive wallet can't support a smaller car or any car right now. I drive as little as possible all ready and frequently use a motorcycle instead of a car. But right now it is to darn hot to be on the bike in the middle of the day  (Jun 22, 2009 | post #16)
