It's so sad that those who have a roof over their heads, clothes on their backs, money in their pockets and don't have to wonder where their next meal is going to come from can be so intolerant of those who aren't as lucky. Not all homeless are drug addicts, alcoholics, criminals, uneducated or lazy. Most are people who have lost their jobs thus losing their homes. What totally aggravates me is that there are so many empty buildings that could be put to use as shelters. Currently our only shelter, Valley Restart, is only taking families, but what about the rest of us? The big empty building next to the old Albertsons has been empty for 20+ years. It would be great. For that matter...the old Albertsons and the old Walmart already have kitchens installed. Instead, though, they remain empty, looking more like isores as the years go by. I am a single Senior Citizen that has lived in this valley for 60+ years. I am retired and living on Social Security (which is less than $900 a month). I recently lost my home and have been living in a weekly motel (which is a serious financial trap. Easy to get in but impossible to save any money to get out.). But as of tomorrow my money will be gone and my.time in the motel will expire and since I have no family here or friends where I could stay, I will be forced to join...as the ignorant and intolerant say...Hemet's derelicts on the streets. And to be very honest...I am more than a little scared. (Aug 10, 2013 | post #1)
