Lawyers start work on Alonso's McLaren exit

I had heard a while back before all this scandal happened that Alonso was considering a move to IRL. It seems he wants to prove his all round driving ability on Ovals as well as street/road courses. Since this has all happened it seems a lot more likely that he will look for a fresh start. Do not discount this as a possiblity. Apparently he was seen in Indianapolis having dinner with Kevin Savoree of Andretti Green Racing a a couple of months ago. Now that the 27 car ride is open all the pieces are falling into place.  (Sep 24, 2007 | post #35)

CUP: Kahne, Bud Make It Official

So you think Budweiser are looking for a young driver ??? Why would they want to target a young demo? Half can't drink and and the rest just drink whatever is the cheapest. I think they were just looking for a popular driver with lots of appeal. Age has nothing to do with it. He is probably the best driver that was available  (Sep 20, 2007 | post #64)

Guaranteed money, no purses for IRL?

I would like to see a major series sponser take the prize oney to a whole new level. If soeone was to come in and say on top of this there will be race prize money AND a massive increase for Indy (say 10 million for the winner) along with a championship fund big enough to guarantee the winner 10 million also we will see more teams and maybe even some of those Nascar boys will sit up and consider it as an option. I would take a huge financial commitment but many companies have huge pockets and look at the attention it would recieve. If I had 100 million to spare I would do it?  (Sep 20, 2007 | post #98)

NASCAR becoming haven for Indy winners

I have not read all the posts on this thread so i apologize if this has been stated before. Has anyone considered that the reason so many open wheel drivers are moving to Nascar is because they can see that there is an opportunity to succeed there and have the ambition and balls to give it a go. I know there is not as much money in other series such as IRL or Champ Car but if ambition was the only factor the only reason I can see why Nascar drivers don't try open wheel is thier fear of failure (i.e. not good enough). If money is the over riding factor and and they truly thought they had the ability then some of those guys would be heading to F1 wouldn't they? What ever happened to the likes of Mario who was willing to rise to the next challenge in racing whatever form that took. You really have to give credit to Montoya, Villeneuve et al for seeking out a fresh goal when the odds are so clearly stacked against them. I look forward to seeing these guys get more wins in the future (Montoya has 2 stock car wins already of course!)  (Sep 19, 2007 | post #138)

Gibbs Racing Will Be Running Toyotas -

Just like when the 2003 Indy 500 was first won by a Japanese manufacturer...Oh wait a minute that was a Toyota and it was the first American designed, built and serviced Indy 500 winning engine for 20 years. If you think that doesn't sound right then think about all the Ford racing motors that were designed and assembled in England by Cosworth or the Chevy/Oldsmobile/M ercedes motors by Ilmor in England, again. Since Honda now has the monopoly on this series it is Japan again but these are at least built and serviced in California. The Toyota Nascar engine was designed in California by Americans, built in California by Americans and serviced in North Carolina by good old boys. The engine is put ina car that is supposed to resemble a Camry which is 100%built in the US for this market. The last Japanese employee at TRD left 4 years ago The only thing not American about it is the badge.  (Sep 6, 2007 | post #333)

Gibbs Racing Will Be Running Toyotas -

I think it'd great that you support the American automotive industry. I assume the reason for this is the jobs within the country it generates as well as revenue pumped back into the economy. If this is true then I would assume that you would be glad that finally a manufacturer that bases almost all of it's manufacturing for the US market in the US is involved in this race series. Toyota is more American, now, than the big three. I know the old arguement is that the profits go back to japan but that is just untrue also. Toyota Motor Sales inc. is a US company that plows the vast majority of it's profits back into it's own growth. Of course some goes to the Corporation but that is no different to top US execs having $50,000,000 paychecks plus shares etc.. How does that help the ecomomy?  (Sep 6, 2007 | post #302)

Teams Testing Steering-Assist Device

Maybe Danica would stand a better chance of winning if the flux capacitor was fitted to a DeLorean! Aside from that I doubt she will ever win  (Sep 6, 2007 | post #6)

Teams Testing Steering-Assist Device

She had it in her car for the Sonoma race definately and maybe Mid Ohio too. The story states that she was not running it in the race at Belle Isle. Manning had in his race car for that event. This is totally unacceptable that not only are certain drivers given this advantage in a race, as opposed to testing, but that the teams not involved were not told about this. It is no surprise that Danica was given this aid as it has been patently clear this season that both the IRL and Honda are doing whatever they can to give her a win. Maybe it will be good for the sport in the long term but that doesn't make it right.  (Sep 6, 2007 | post #3)

Crash sends title up for grabs

You obviously know more about the workings of an indy car than me....or think you do!! You also think you have the inside scoop on Dario's next move but as you said to me if you want to discuss then show some evidence or shut up. Anyone can say " I am not gonna tell you til it is written in The Star" and say afterwards that you told me so. Fir the record I have reliable information regarding this incident which unfortunately is not in a format that can be posted on here. suffice to say that Dixon DID NOT intentionally block Dario. It was extremely unfortunate for Scott that Buddy got in the way when on his last ounce of fuel and equally unfortunate that Dario was collected in the mess. I know I can talk about this all day and you will not agree with me and I don't expect you to, but facts are facts and as Indycarmike57 stated Scott is not a dirty driver. In fact he was being praised in Sonoma for not blocking Dario as he exited pit road.(many would have according to the announcers and I bet Dario would have been one of them) Hi Mindy, Mike and Ski... How are you all doing. This guy thinks he has the inside scoop, right...but we know better!!!!  (Sep 5, 2007 | post #89)

Crash sends title up for grabs

It would take a super human to react as fast as necessary to intentionally back into Dario. It is not my first rodeo. I have seen many rodeos where the driver or owner says exactly what is on their mind following an event. It is usually governed by emotion (as in Micheal's comment) but to Dario's credit he is pretty good at calling it the way it is even when emotions run high. I find it comical that you accuse Dixon of bloccking as also the IRL seem to try and claim on occassion. Kanaan blocking in Sonoma is obviously OK. In this case it was Buddy Rice running out of gas that caused the back up. I don't know what kind of deal you think Dario has for next season but if you have anything to share go right ahead, if not then don't try and sound informed when your only purpose appears to be to discredit my opinion on the incident, which the last time I checked I have the freedom to express. If not then surely that is an indictment of the entire system and the USA in general... And I, for one, am not gonna sit back and let you bad mouth the United States of America I noticed you didn't disagree with my comments about Micheal Andretti. I guess we can all agree that he is indeed an idiot....  (Sep 4, 2007 | post #60)

Crash sends title up for grabs

Point 1: Buddy Rice ran out of fuel. He was trying to get out of the way and apologized to Dixon afterwards for causing the crash. Point 2: If you think that in the split second it took for Dixon to spin he had time to look over his shoulder and see Dario then intentionally back into him you are deluded. Point 3: Even Dario admitted that it was not intentional so why his fans would think otherwise is beyond me. Point 4: This was a good result for Dario. He goes into the last race with a 3 points advantage where it would have been a 6 point deficit had they stayed the same. Point 5: Micheal Andretti is a moron who needs to think before he makes such definitive statements. Point 6: IRL racing this season has been incident filled and exciting to watch. Since when did anyone feel better about watching a race where no passing occured and the drivers simply followed each other around avoiding the possibility of contact. Point 7: Micheal Andretti is a moron.. I may have said that already but it bears repeating  (Sep 4, 2007 | post #52)

Gift-wrapped victory

Good question about Dario. TK was all about helping Dario this week and throughout the race made sure he stayed between Scott and his team mate. This is good team work.... I guess but I can remember other times when this kind of tactic has been picked up by the IRL and penalties awarded. It is starnge that the IRL allowed TK to just drop back one spot from his starting infraction instead of the customary drive through penalty. This ensured that he stayed in fromt of Dixon and played his part as the race unfolded. They say though that Karma will always get you and for all the attempts to prevent Dixon from winning it came to naught.  (Aug 27, 2007 | post #26)
